I’m wondering whether Feathercoin team developed its app from scratch or just modified one of the solutions created for Bitcoin?

Very untrue.
Btc network hashrate has been stable and always increasing with time with no dumps in hash power.  Most miners at break even with electric so not much to be gained. Mining is a service and not a reward.
