This is actually a fundamental truth without which Bitcoin (and anything else that depends on asymmetric keypair cryptography) wouldn't work at all.

A great number of the developers who call themselves part of Bitcoin core (but not all thank goodness.)  flaunted their hubris online and across stages claiming that normal people couldn't understand how they are able to work through all the possible game theory necessary to understand that changes that they were making were safe.

I would expect those same people to read what I just wrote and come back with something like, "Well achualllly, this bug has nothing to do with the thing you're talking about! Ha!"

And that would be the exact same arrogant myopathy that led them to take that stand in the first place. 

I don't run Core 30.  Not yet. And certainly not now.

Please do not put me in some black and white frame where you accuse me of being a "retard" on one side or the other of an argument. I am not.  I am a much more balanced and nuanced retard who's lived long enough to know that when you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

I'm in the "non-mining nodes are irrelevant" camp and gave up running one a long time ago. I'd run one if I needed to to publish my transactions but that's not been necessary so far and as long as you have control of your keys, that's the primary consideration.

I agree with your stance on this in part, but adding to the blockchain and the security of the network is not the only reason to run a node.  And just because a non-mining node could be a sybil doesn't mean it is one. nor does it mean the person running that node does not contribute to their own sovereignty as well as the consensus of the rules on which all nodes operate.  But obviously this is a can of worms with which we've selected our favorite worms and are sitting down for dinner right now, so I see no reason to belabor it much.

I will say I have a wide-eyed idealistic feeling about projects like the bitaxe and other ways that we will see mining decentralize.

I'm just saying, if and when the time comes, this one is better. It'll make you feel like a younger man.
