What to Expect on Coinbase and Other Crypto Exchanges During the Ethereum Merge
Coinbase will temporarily pause Ethereum and ERC-20 token deposits and withdrawals during the merge, the exchange announced Tuesday.
The pause is a precautionary measure, Coinbase said in a blog post, with the downtime allowing the exchange to “ensure that the transition has been successfully reflected by our systems.” The “merge” refers to a significant protocol update that will see the Ethereum mainnet combined with the proof-of-stake beacon chain, completing the network’s transition to proof of stake.

There's something I don't get about the difficulty bomb. does it start increasing difficulty for a period of time until that impossible point, or it's just a moment where it goes up? I think it must be increasing for a period depending on the mining rate, but I haven't found info. I mean, if the merge is going to be at x time, what stops miners to switch off at x-1 and say: ¡Hasta la vista baby!

The block time is regulated by the algorithm. With a large arrival of miners or vice versa, their departure, the block time will change, but then it will stabilize.
miners won't leave before the merge starts because it's a loss of profit.

I see gas costs are really cheap at the moment and haven't seen them touch gas costs for a long time, it's really close to 5 gwei even now it's only under 10 gwei, maybe people don't do a lot of transactions on the ETH network now so gas costs are very cheap, today it's very cheap happy to move lots of ETH tokens from old wallet to my new wallet

Tornado cash is a parasite coin that uses the Public Ethereum blockchain to encrypt proof of value messages into the Blockchain. The tech is called zk-SNARKs and are a novel form of zero-knowledge cryptography which allow for private transactions.

Ethereum is moving to proof-of-stake! The transition, known as The Merge, must first be activated on the Beacon Chain with the Bellatrix upgrade. After this, the proof-of-work chain will migrate to proof-of-stake upon hitting a specific Total Difficulty value.
The Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for epoch 144896 on the Beacon Chain – 11:34:47am UTC on Sept 6, 2022.
The Terminal Total Difficulty value triggering The Merge is 58750000000000000000000, expected between Sept 10-20, 2022.

The Ethereum Foundation has announced it will be increasing the network’s bug bounty payouts fourfold ahead of the blockchain’s transition to proof-of-stake.

In a Wednesday blog post, the Ethereum Foundation said between Aug. 24 and Sept. 8, all “Merge-related bounties for vulnerabilities” will be quadrupled for white hats testing the network. According to the foundation, identifying “critical bugs” — those that have a high impact or likelihood of a high impact on the blockchain — will be worth up to $1 million. The bounty program also allows submissions for low, medium and high-risk bugs.
