OP no matter how much time you have putting in getting a right location for your business doesn't make someone who open the same business close to you is a bad person because that's how business works and perhaps it could even be that while you were scouting for the right place that's how other persons were also looking for a good location but it just happened that you started before them, so don't feel bad because I don't no if you have seen a location were so many people sells the same thing but only one is the most favoured by the customers because of how they comport themselves to them and how they also make products always available and there prices because when a customer visit your shop three to four times and you did not have what they want automatically the person that has it becomes there customer, so if you have all this I have mentioned you shouldn't feel sad about that because the person does not envy you and besides the only business person that get scared of competitors are people who cannot manage a business very well because competitors are the ones that brings excitement on the business.

The business you are doing there, are you the first person to do the business? Why make it as if it's your parents and intellectual property right? You don't have the power to monopolized a business in an open economy, every other person has that right to do the same business unless you are selling a unique product which you must have trade mark and copy right protected so that another person don't steal your idea to make money but even copy right has expiry date.

Anyone has the right to sell what you sell, you weren't the first person to try the business right, it was done somewhere before you tried it and even if another person comes close to you to do the same service, you have the right to outperformed the person and do everything necessary to sell more than the person. Haven't you see two restaurants sell close to each other and yet one has more patronage than the other, it's how you market your business you are going to sell. Instead of worrying about this, channel that energy for improvement and win the customers.

You will always encounter people who would copy you or maybe even do better than you. There is no other answer but for you to do better than that other business. There should be something unique about your business that even if there’s another business right down the street, customers will still choose to go to your business. Check what are the weaknesses of the other business and strengthen those things in your business.

Competition, that's it. In every industry, they'll never be gone and this is for the sake of the consumers to have a lot of choices. If it's not for competition, everyone won't have better choices for products and services. I know that it's kind of devastating when you see someone put up the same business ideas, products, etc. near you because they've seen it with their case study and from you.

Just be the better competitor. Don't lowball your products and services, stick to what you've been doing and more marketing to come. I know that lowballing is what the consumers like but what it will be for you is going to be totally damaging and that's the reason why you'll be the first to be out of business and then your competitor wins.

Its natural to have competitor especially if they see your business starting to succeed since their are people really want to replicate what you do since they also want to get the best result for their business.

So what you can able to do to fight back on the competition is to became more friendly on your costumers and offer best service which they would became more satisfied since for sure that those people would see that you are approachable and doing them some favor will stick on you since and they won't go anywhere because they are happy on what you have provided to them.  Also try to lower down the prices of your goods and services since provably that costumers will go to you since lots of people think about savings and provably that they would go to you since they can save some money compare if they buy at high price to your competitor.

Competition is normal in the business so expect that there's competitor will come to challenge your business. You need to prepare on that situation since somehow you are the old one running. For sure you have the advantage on the game since people already know you.

What's best you can do is to do price war. try to scout the cost of their products then try to lower down yours. This suggestion made by some people in this thread is good already since for sure your competitor cannot sustain their business with that aspect especially if they are renting their spaces.

Also add some delivery option to your costumer giving them convenience would provably make them a loyal costumer so extend your service for doing such thing and for sure you will get a good advantage against your competitors.

This is very common and to understand.
We all want to make money and it is either we make this money out of creativities or we emulates from others.

When you sights a lucrative vision in a specific area and has successfully set up a business house there and while you are being making progress there, you should be expecting oppositions within where others would come and set up same businesses as you to also be successful.

Then it becomes a competition and the people around you would even need more competitions within the area so that you as a monopoly will not put them on "no choice" condition just because you are the only trader/dealer in their respective area.

This comes back to the mentality of business competition, because whatever type of business you run with a creative idea, it will not be the same as other business people. So when you are ready to set up a business to increase profits, then show what makes your product different from other people's products. As long as you have something to highlight, consumers will have their own assessment of the products offered. Everything that is competitive in the business field, the basic point is quality. As far as I know there is no law that preven 2 or more  people to sell same thing in thesame location. Business is all about good skill, self discipline and composure, good manners, transparency, respect and have a good customer relationship.  When you know what you are doing, you don need to be afraid of how many people that compete with you. There are situations where there are many shop conjoined in an area yet people patronize a particular person  simply because of the attitude of being customer friendly, and being respectful to each customer both old and young.  your character attract customer not the amount of goods you have in the shop. Because surely most people have alot of goods but no much people to patronize them.

I don't know why you keep on emphasizing much on this, I am beginning to think that you have a problem with that. All what I can tell you is to desist from that attitude because it won't help you. I can sence anger and hatred in you from my end. If you don't kill that thought you have in you and mind your business, it will Leed you to a serious problem of either losing your customers to your opponent because you will be more aggressive than being friendly. And Morover an aggressive business is not a good business strategy.

My advice to you is to mind your business and work more on your relationship with your customers. Because your location is not the only location people are selling thesame thing. When you go to computer market you find many people selling computer everywhere and each person makes money without problem. so yours is not exception neither.

I don't really think opening a shop close to a competitor is a problem because i have seen someone moved his business out of the original location he used to stay and went to another location just because of a competitor that does same business as he do but just within some months later, his competitor also relocated to that same area so in such a situation will you also advise him to move out to another location?
