Lol, a gambling addict is the only one could do that thing which is very unusual. Imagine doing all that kind of stuff, dragging out the police and making your family worry about you just to get a $1000 to recover your losses. It shows that the guy is an irresponsible, can't even show that his mistakes are his, not others, and I can tell that this guy is a huge problem in his family. If I'm the relative/family, I would obviously deny him as my family, because in the first place he didn't even think about where the problem could escalate, and dragging your own family for your own benefit is very wrong.

I think the best way to avoid addictions when it comes to gambling is education.  People need to realize that they won't beat the odds and make a career out of pulling a slot machine handle.  I think there are genuinely a lot of people who feel like they're going to become professional gamblers in spite of that not being a real thing.  Sure, there are people who got themselves into situations where they're gambling huge amounts of money and got lucky, but I have never met anyone who consistently made money gambling.  It is entertainment.  Use it for fun.  Don't gamble more than you can afford to lose.  These things should be second nature to us by now.

Honestly, this is a funny story. It was a moment of panic that arose because of his great fear of the consequences he might face as a result of a deliberate mistake, and he didn't want that to happen. This triggered his brain to look for a way out, but the way out he chose was completely wrong. On the other hand, his position at the time prevented him from thinking clearly. He should have realized from the start that the steps he took were wrong, deciding to use money that wasn't from the gambling budget and wasn't even his own. Lol, this guy isn't just suffering from gambling addiction, but also from chronic stupidity. This is a direct consequence of debt, then gambling in second degree. If someone reach the level to gamble with money he can't afford to lose, he would surely find himself opened to many scenarios which can lead him do horrible things. Some crazy addicted force their women (wife,daughter) to prostitute or to work in miserable conditions to give him money. Others would work as a hired assassin to get easy money to satisfy his addiction needs.

Someone who has no luck to kidnap himself would never be lucky in gambling. Lol

Addiction can be cruel, I witnessed addicts do crazy stuffs that no one in their right mind will dare to do that so for the family members who got addicts, just try to let him know or find ways to make him realize his mistake and if he keeps ignoring all those then better abandon him which is good for others especially kids in that family to avoid traumatic childhood.

To me being educated is even going to promote the addiction because those gamblers who are well educated usually struggle to implement new things like skills and strategies that they can use to outsmart the casino, although I'm not disputing that education is not needed of course it's needed and surely some gamblers make use of their knowledge very well while gambling but most of this people who are well educated don't make use of the knowledge they have, sometimes those gamblers who are not educated reason more better than them.

I completely agree with you. Anyone should be able to gamble or bet intelligently, as you mentioned, by knowing the initial, and final steps before placing a bet, and I think that is what setting goals means. I am sure a gambler can avoid addiction this way, compared to gambling without considering limits. However, betting with money we can afford to lose is crucial when betting. Some of these tips may have been mentioned many times, but I believe they are still relevant and necessary for everyone, especially for gamblers, to be a reminder..

Yes, it's true, we as players can give that advice , but we know very well that many players don't follow the advice because they Prefer to live their Own Experiences, so it's better to advise and when some players listen, we'll prevent them from losing a lot of money.

I don't think it's easy to get rid off a closed family member when you or your children are in need for him to bear responsibility. Some situations are so pathetic. I recently read about the famous actor Charles Harrison whose father was a gambling addict who committed many crimes to get money to gamble. Even sentenced to many years in many times in jail, he get back to gambling right after getting out. One of his genuine plan is to work as hired assassin to get small amounts just to pay his debts from gambling lenders. [1]
Fortunetly for Charles Harrison that he was rised by his mom and get a better education and chances to later become a lovely famous actor.

I know it is going to be hard and heartbreaking. Still, it's good for the future because we can never expect any kind of responsibility from an addict and as I said I had witnessed from the first hand. Hence, it's better to stay away from them and survive on our own if it's women and kid and that what must happened in the situation you mentioned as well.

Yeah, it's a solid lesson, but honestly - nothing new. The second someone starts playing with borrowed cash, the fun ends and the trouble begins. He loses, freaks out, invents some “brilliant” scheme worthy of a middle-school drama… and of course it all finishes with cops and a mess to clean up.
gambling itself doesn’t turn people into criminals, but if someone has zero self-control and risks money they cannot afford to lose - stories like this pop up all the time. And chasing “easy money” never saves the day.

I believe the answers to these questions can highly vary.

If you ask me how to avoid any kind of addiction is better not to do at all, because whenever we do there will always be a slight chance that we might get addicted but one who know why do it and very clear about it will not likely to become addicted.

Either way don't gamble all day long, just do it when you got time to kill after busy day of work.

Addiction to me is more of a psychiatric problem, because in as much as all the above mentioned can be in place, if a person have the tendency of easily getting addicted he she will still fall for it.

What the family did to have called the authorities to investigate the situation was a good call and I hope the parties involved had many days to spend in the jail.
