I have two computers. One of them is used exclusively for gaming, and I don't download torrents anymore. I used to download games; nowadays, even with these reported issues regarding insecurity, I still prefer Steam, Epic Games, and GOG. I've never had any problems, but it seems like it's best to keep an eye on things; you never know when an attack like this might occur.
I also make use of two different devices: one is for anything that has to do with gaming and whatever elseI want to do online, and the other device is for anything that has to do with wallets, OTP, and 2FA. But as long as we connect those devices to the Internet, it's not entirely safe; we still need to be extremely careful. For anything that has to do with holding a large volume of digital assets, one needs to consider using a hardware wallet for increased security.

That's why you should separate your two identities: " Are you a crypto investor and also a gamer". You can't combine a " work" and " gaming" PC. These don't necessarily have to be separate physical PCs. You can use separate HDDs and OSes for different tasks, keeping them separate, of course. The Steam incident should serve as a warning to everyone that even well-known and reliable platforms can become a source of financial problems. Therefore, NEVER use a " work" PC (for crypto) for gaming or entertainment purposes – only for working with crypto. This is similar to " computer hygiene", with the risk reduction.

Not everyone can afford two computers and use one for gaming and another for work, I use my computer for gaming and also for crypto trading, it is a AI based power house where I can also run AI model, why all the bells and whistles just to buy a separate one for gaming? My PC is capable of both. Instead of advising people to have two set of computers, why not advice them to buy a hardware wallet which won't cost more or under $200 and a PC for gaming/working? This safe a lot of money and the most priority is keeping digital assets safe.

Even the antivirus got nothing after several scans, he had to wipe the whole computer and reinstall windows 11 again, he got lucky because he noticed as someone who is very familiar with such attacks, Steam is not safe anymore. There was some reports about stolen crypto assets and the attack so far have robbed people of $150,000, here is a link but it is not over, I thought they fixed the problem but I was wrong. https://www.pcmag.com/news/another-steam-game-infects-players-pcs-with-malware-steals-150k-in-cryptoScammers are getting wiser everyday, they are always acting against our security and preventive measures towards getting scammed that’s why we need to be wiser and get a means to protect our devices from such attacks. Is that your close friend sure that he is installing the game from the official website? If yes then he need window defender and string antivirus to protect his system from phishing attacks; he can also get a bigger device that can support other OS like Ubuntu or Linux or even macOS, I think they are safer than windows sometimes, and you can as well be updating your windows from time to time to make sure the antivirus softwares are active. Furthermore, your friend can have a separate device for his crypto wallets and still make sure he download the wallet from their official website.

I have a laptop and I have a phone. My laptop has always been a PES hub than it ha been of other things in the past years I have been using it. The comfort it gives me has never made me thought of getting a PES for my TV despite been a game freak, that's the only thing I spent my internet subscription on the most and because I do download crach version of games, I don't trust it with security and I don't keep coins on the laptop. My phone got my back. Its the only thing that gives me peace of mine, other than WhatsApp, TikTok, X and Snapchat, I have nothing on the phone that may put my wallet at risk. Sometimes I get tempted to download Football Pro recent version but I feel comfortable doing that on my PC instead for my safety.

There are countless warning via this forum about malware and viruses that can infect crypto investors computers, we are been warned to avoid downloading of games and softwares using Torrent websites which have been proven to be one of the fastest way to get your PC compromised but what I am about to share now is somewhat different. Some of you must have already heard or read about it but I am forced to bring this on the forum today because it seems the attack is growing, Our favourite Valve's Steam platform for PC gamers is now a breeding ground for crypto hijacking viruses. Someone very close to me bought a game called slime rancher on steam and lucky for him he isn't new to computer, while the installation was ongoing he noticed that a small window was running on the background, installing something else, after a while the PC start acting abnormally, the mouse pad start to freeze, becoming less responsive. Even the antivirus got nothing after several scans, he had to wipe the whole computer and reinstall windows 11 again, he got lucky because he noticed as someone who is very familiar with such attacks, Steam is not safe anymore. There are advise that we should separate our crypto hardware, i.e laptop and PC and others from our daily used so that in case that you might have downloaded something, there will be no damage. But still, self-awareness is the best weapon against the trap that this criminals are laying down for crypto individuals.
This is the only way to avoid this drama in this space since we can not do away with our happiness simply because we are into crypto. As a fan of gaming, you'll definitely download games in one way or the other for the purpose of having fun and it's unfair to lose your coins in this process. Ideally, you need a separate device for your crypto activity and for your gaming. You don't necessarily need a fansy device for your crypto, you only need a device with less and restricted usage. Most important, keeping your private keys secure because even if your device is well secured but your keys is vulnerable, you're likely to lose your coins. Losing asset doesn't always happen online, it can be offline too.

So I will say many investors use gaming as a way to relax after watching the market all day while gamers sees crypto as another kind of game with real stakes. Just want to say that if you're a crypto investor and a gamer always stay sharp because sometimes the thread do not always come from unknown site, it could be hiding in the very platforms we trust most .

I think I should do the same as you. So far, I've been playing video games and crypto using the same open storage. For several years now, I've remained safe and problem-free. However, I've realized that it's better to be prepared before it rains than to regret it later. Your PC's security depends on how you interact with everything, whether in the gaming or crypto world. Pay attention to every interaction you have, especially with downloads. Make sure there are no files attached to downloaded apps or click on random links when browsing the web.

I don't have much of bitcoin on my wallet, my pc once was attacked by clipboard malware. Whenever I copy something long string it's always copy a designated address, maybe hackers wallet address. I get rid of this simply just using a antivirus. I don't download anything from torrent or unauthorized sources.

I think we already have a lot of reports that cyber criminal is taking advantage of torrents or whatever free software we found on the web. And as crypto enthusiast, we should be educated that it's a no-no for us just download anything specially games as I have said, they can disguised everything behind and it's going to be too late when all your crypto has been stolen.
There are advise that we should separate our crypto hardware, i.e laptop and PC and others from our daily used so that in case that you might have downloaded something, there will be no damage. As long as we use our common sense we will (most likely) stay safe. Although nothing in life is 100% safe. Even veterans willl eventually fall for a scam or a hack or something. So I think if you have crypto, you should not store it on the same device that you use to download/torrent/whatever and surf the web. Those two devices should be kept seperate and air gapped. The one you use for crypto should be carefully kept.

This is highly practical advice for crypto security since it is unfair to lose money just for enjoying fun hobbies like gaming but best way to protect your assets is to use separate inexpensive device only for your crypto activity keeping it free from gaming downloads and general browsing. As we all know that private key security is most important thing because even secure device is useless if your keys are stored poorly or lost offline proving that losing assets can happen in real world just as easily as it can online.

And you trust it’s all gone? If you believe your antivirus, cool.. but it could be more than just a clipboard hijacker. Personally, the moment I detect anything like that, even on a device I don’t use for financial stuff, I’m wiping the entire OS. But hey, everyone’s trust level is different so you can hold on to the antivirus decision if you believe it works fine

I completely agree with you. Basically, we don't need two separate computers; we can use just one by having different storage drive (HDD, SSD, etc.). However, the storage drive is important to consider, we need to understand that the operating system resides on the storage drive, so we can separate the storage drive for personal use (especially for crypto) and the storage drive for gaming. I would also like to add a suggestion, if we are a Windows user, we should also separate our Microsoft account as security layer, because I think if we use the same Microsoft account on different OS, we will still experience hacking, so it will be dangerous, and there is a possibility that hackers can monitor us through the hacked Microsoft account (I haven't found the case yet, but I think it makes sense), Cmiiw.

The thing is, they attack you from places you least expect them to. So, not downloading things from unauthorised places or torrents isn't the only thing that will keep you safe from attacks. Is Steam not trusted? It is used by millions of gamers worldwide, so it's basically a trusted platform, and you can't expect to get attacked through a game you download or buy from there. Similarly, a person got his wallet drained after downloading a wallet app from Apple Store, while Apple is considered to be very safe in these matters. So, it's not only about being careful from certain things that you know could cause such problems, it's about being careful from everything. Someone who has a good amount of money in cryptocurrencies should either buy a hardware wallet to store them, or have separate devices if they can afford to do that. This way, you won't be worried about anything, because the device you use generally won't have wallets or crypto, and you can download and install anything without any worries.
