This is not the first time I’m hearing this stories but of course your not a bad friend either but you are also not a very encouraging friend in my opinion, we can’t just see his part as the poor one because he wants to take a risk which we are not sure of and perhaps if he had gotten the assistance you would probably benefit from it. So at this point it’s about the money, and generally the rich are know for one thing being money oriented and since he didn’t get the need from you he had to distance it’s normal in my opinion and next he will probably prepare for his lucky day and never run to anyone for assistance.

I would feel bad. But I've been through a similar situation. I remember to this day when I traveled to my relatives' house in another city and had to teach one of my relatives about sports betting. I gave him money to bet. It turns out he won a big parlay and took all the money and spent it. The next day he came back to me asking for money to bet again.

He was lucky again and won big, but didn't give me anything, he spent it all. The following week he came back to me asking for money to bet. I told him I didn't have any. He got angry. He got money his way and bet, but lost. He bet again and lost. His problem was that he wanted to win so much that he put 17 games in his parlay. He managed to win 15 games, but lost 15. The guy started to hate me.

You don’t owe anyone anything and if I refuse to give them money to Jamel they have not right to come to me and complain, if they can’t even afford to fund their account then it’s clear that they have a bigger problem than just gambling, they need to fix their life.

I don’t know the kind of relationship you had with him that made him come to your with that kind of request but I know for sure that no one is going to approach me and then demand for money to find their gambling account, they might try other means like try to lie about what they intend to do with the money but not come directly and tell me that they need money to gamble.

It's simple you need to make a new friend. Well, honestly, it's not your loss if he distance on you because in the first place it's your money and if fate was worst that day, you may face the consequences because he may be distant with you as well one day to pay back that money, that's the reality. The cause was his addiction and what only drive to him not winning it is that he's too greedy on his gambling habits. What a petty, i would be glad if someone did that to me due for only such reason. Good thing i know his/er true colors. You can tell him/er that s/he is just bad luck, not you, since you're lucky enough to know what kind of red flag friend s/he is. Or just don't bother saying him/er for your own good. It's not your fault to begin with, cause how can you borrow him/er if you doesn't have to begin with.

When a person wants to join a game like gambling, he wants to do it on his own decision. And here, whether he loses or wins, he alone will bear the consequences. He asked you for money but you did not give it, this is your responsible behavior. Because in gambling, no one can say for sure whether he will lose or win. And if you gave him money as he said, then you would not only have given him money but also would have participated in his decision. If he had started playing with the money and lost the game, then he himself would have suffered financial losses and at the same time he would have lost your money, then he might have delayed returning your money. Again, by helping him with money, you would have also become morally responsible for the loss. So I think that by not giving him money, you actually saved him and yourself from risk. Later, your friend's complaint that he could have won if you had given him money is a reflection of his mentality of blaming others. Just because you are his friend, you do not have to accompany him in all his demands. You have introduced yourself as a real friend and, seeing his misfortune, you had the courage to say no.  You did not accompany anyone in a risky decision and maintained your own moral position. I think your decision is correct and commendable.

I have been blamed for a gambler loss before and the experience wasn't funny that's why I stay away from giving people opinion when it comes to gambling because when they succeed, they won't appreciate you as much as they'll blame you when they lose. Everybody has their own brain hence they should use it and predict the outcome of any bets that they're playing. Gambling shouldn't be all about profits but that's the situation that we have found people doing as all they care about is if they'll make a profits when they gamble or not and that is one of those reasons why gambling addiction has being on the increase. You can't be chasing profits and not become addicted to gambling that you begin to go insane.

I dont care, even if I had the money to lend but once I decided to not lend it to him then it is not my business at all. We should not feel that we have to responsible for what is happening to others especially when it comes to gambling activity. That your friend  is more of a comedian because he sounds and act very funny, how will he even come up with such ideas, are you his problem? He should go and sought out is problem because you are definitely not, you owe him no explanation or whatever, his problem is addiction and he should go and fix it.

Assuming you even give him the money he demanded for at the initial point what you would have later heard is stories upon stories, that's what they are out for always looking for who to blame instead of facing their real life challenges which is gambling addiction.

The point is that you can't please someone and displease yourself, In as much as this case is concerned, you have the legal right not to accept his offer. Afterall you are not a cooperative society where people take loan. If I where you I would not think about his actions because it's my money and I have the right to how and who I give and the reason to which it is given for. If I where in your shoes I wouldn't feel anything for him because his an addict. And an addict has no remorse, don't be surprised he may still come again with Sam story tomorrow and forgot he once said that yesterday.

In my case, someone who did that would instantly cease to be my friend. Although I'm sure they would have stopped being my friend long ago and wouldn't even have asked me for the money, because their behavior would surely have given clues over time about what they're like, and I wouldn't even have found myself in that situation because people know what I'm like, that I don't let myself be intimidated by bullshit like that.

That is exactly what would happen if you had lend him the money and the gamble was lost. I'm trying to remember a case like that which happened to a friend of mine but couldn't. It was a case of failed investment after his friend had promised him it was a sure deal. The whole investment looked too ambitious and too good of a package yet he went on to borrow the friend the money to invest in it.

After the investment failed, they both looked at each other for blames. My friend quarreled with his friend on why he had to push him to bring out such huge amount of money to a failed investment and his friend was like if I had know it will fail, I would not have put in the money in the first place. Now it became a blame game between them. What I'm saying is we should not tie ourselves to situations that do not warrant it.

Don't say because you have some money and your friend do not, it has now automatically become your responsibility to cater for all his needs and wants. It is not and we should not be making such mistakes because you will later hurt yourself. Support when you can, when you cannot, ignore.
