I’ve been thinking about how sports leagues earn now, from stage entrances, live streaming, and advertising.
One thing that’s slowly dying is the live stream subscriptions, since almost anyone can now watch games for free because of piracy.
That means less income from that side, yet they still manage to pay players huge salaries.

So it makes me wonder, do you think some leagues might be in partnership with sportsbooks or betting companies, getting a share from the bets, maybe even influencing certain games?

You are right about that, the money flow into sports has now taken a different turn but we live in a digital age now and making money can be achieved through a lot of means. If they’re really hiding something that we don’t know, then it’s almost the same as suspecting that sports is rigged  which already falls into conspiracy theory territory, usually coming from people who like to overthink things. It’s fine to have those thoughts or observations, but without solid evidence, we can’t just accuse them of doing something illegal.

If that ever gets proven true, it would destroy the league, and not just theirs. others would be affected too. Worst case, it could ruin the whole sport itself, especially the part that makes betting possible.

But we don't know about other leagues, it's possible that it exists because in less popular leagues, such as those in Asian or African countries, oversight and transparency are not as stringent as in top European leagues, which creates a greater opportunity for match manipulation or other fraudulent practices.

I don't stream to watch, I pay subscription to Supersport and watch right home with uninterrupted connection because it's through waves of satellite dish. The only time I stream is if I'm not at home, that's when I used my vpn to connect through some websites but the problem with those illegal website is that they are full of bugs and too much ads, even if you use adblock, you wouldn't enjoy the game like you are going to do on your cable you subscribed.

I don't think it's only sportsbook that do this partnerships, other companies are involved through marketing and it's the company that pay more you often see around on the ads places. I have seen more of okx and crypto.com platform on my Supersport than I have seen other casino sportsbooks. Everything you see on sports is compensated through heavy advertisements, and I'm sure these ads are been carefully advertise to avoid too much complaints from viewers.

You have a point though, leagues that aren’t watched much are more prone to manipulation. But if you look it up, people don’t talk about it that often; it’s mostly the popular leagues like the NBA that get accused of those things, like referees being used for point shaving or adjusting totals to favor what the management wants. It’s just speculation, but honestly, I still consider that when I choose which team to bet on.

If it’s organized and rigged, that would mean the people running the NBA are the ones writing the script, and the refs are just executing it. There are players who can rig games on their own too, but the more coordinated kind  that usually comes from the management itself.

Their main source of income in sponsorship, they do have a lot of sponsorship deals from different companies, and these companies are using the football club to make more money because they will have more customers when people watch games.

Another means of income is selling of tickets to their fans all over the world to come and watch them play; this is mostly limited because the money that is coming from there isn’t enough to take care of the team, but joining the income with the income from sponsorship, the team will have more money.

Lastly, the advertisement the clubs do for several companies, this is another big source of income especially for teams that are doing really well, they will have request from different company to earn extra income.

But I don't think they will go to the extent of rigging the game. Because once the fans discovered such act, their business get doomed as well as the leagues/teams involved. It would be devastating for the sports. Also, if rigged it, the audience will know. Because with today's technology, they can already see a lot of movements and the followers can easily spot such manipulation. And with the social media that we have today, it can spread so fast that it can ruin the team as well as the betting site. So I don't think they will jeopardize their reputation with such one mistake.

Almost all teams earn a shit ton of money from partnerships and sponsorships they get from brands. If a sportsbook partners with a club, I regard it as a marketing move from the sportsbook rather than a partnership that allows for both teams and the sportsbooks involved to collude and manipulate their results to max extract for the benefits of both their teams and their sponsors (sportsbook).

Well, betting has been around for as long as sports itself, so it’s not like that’s a new concept (not like I agree with the conspiracy of partnerships with bookkeepers, though corruption is everywhere). When it comes to money now, what really changed is how it moves in today’s digital age, so even though piracy has reduced income from streaming, leagues now make a lot through licensing and digital rights, so whether regardless of the views, money flows. Media companies pay heavily just to use highlights, replays, then there are brand partnerships, most betting companies, energy drinks, tech brands, pay for visibility and association. Most of these deals are often locked in through multi-year contracts, ensuring steady income for leagues.Beyond that, exclusive behind-the-scenes content and player-focused features also bring in big sponsorship money. The league are now treated like a product, every clip, story, or fan moment can be monetized. So the money flow, I mean I wouldn't deny that there is corruption somewhere but the league is very much monetizeable in this digital economy.

Football teams get a lot of sponsorship that we can’t really tell how much of a deal they sign with these big companies. From the revenues those companies they do sponsorship for generates, you can really tell how much if a big sponsor they’re to them. Even in the stadiums, during live matches, they still continue to show sponsorships of different brands. The players jerseys are all filled up with sponsors logos, the stadium seats and many more.

Common, football teams still have many ways to generate income to pay their players. If they are sponsors to betting companies also, that will be a huge deal they’ll sign with them but not directly them getting revenue generated from that betting companies as theirs. Like Real Madrid players, they’re been given the latest BMW yearly for the part of the sponsorship they have with the club, this is just one part of it and I only see their logo on their seats in the stadium. I don’t think this guys will lack generating income sources even if live streaming doesn’t generate revenue for their again.

Yeah I have been thinking the same, because nowadays most of the channels that is created by sports leagues it's been hacked by unknown people and they're the one profiting from those site Because after downloading the application you will still have to subscribe Before you can have access to the site and you can't just use peanut money for the subscription you will have to use a More decent amount to subscribe so as to enable you stream the game till the end. And I noticed that this is really affecting the sport leagues as they are now struggling to fish out those applications and get them restricted.

Personally I think you are actually speculating wrongly. This is because the internet has even made it far easier for them to monetize these sporting activities from multiple accounts, pages and channels across different platforms to even bigger endorsement deals and advertising deals.

Casinos and some other brands like shoe or even energy drink brands make high bids just to make sure they are made the lead in advertising displays since these sports have a very huge audience most times.

Even if this market is different now than how it used to be before, I believe clubs can continue to make much money thanks to advertising, tickets to their matches and also partnerships with companies like adidas, Nike and others like those.
I doubt leagues are involved in match fixing, because it would be doubt to risk all their other sources or income and reputation for money they could earn in some other ways.

No even mention that, assuming there is actual illegal activity going on within leagues, it would be very difficult for them to keep it all as a secret, as there would be hundreds of people involved and someone would inevitably blow the whistle on what is going on.

When it comes with the contract they are already earning a large of money because of the partnership, and also with the sponsored so using their names into a large events such as basketball, football and etc. is just a huge name to use in a game so they dont need much to have about the stream and subscription so they dont care at all right there its just a small portion that cant control at all people will do all the things just to get free so they dont need much time and effort just to have this kind of action to take it down.

I doubt any reputed leagues would do that. Being affiliated with gambling houses is one thing and going to the extent of rigging matches is a completely different thing. I do agree that the league might pass some information such as schedule, etc which might not be accessible to an average fan.

We have to consider that these gambling houses offer insane amounts. Consider this for an example, the top NBA athlete such as Lebron James earns about $35m a year from his contract. Now think about a streamer, XQC, who most people here might not know. He got a contract from Kick worth $100m for 2 years. That means XQC will earn more than the top NBA athlete just by streaming (it's a tough job not looking down on it)

All that is possible because Kick is backed by stake's revenue, I assume.

I think it’s naive to think that there’s no hidden money that’s going around a sport. There’s also some politics involved where the higher ups may be receiving some money to fix things up. Bribery is also a thing and there’s lots of forms of bribery that I am sure goes around.

You must understand that sports activities is one of the best frame of steaming live entertainments that connects people together in diverse of regions.
We've also been aware of the international interests in the football making it one of the largest unifying entertainment activities with the highest fan base of all time sport categories. Football has also been one of the most betting event in the bookie which proves how massively people are interested in the reality.
