Avoid selling your account for just a few bucks

No matter how many times they say it that people should stop selling/buying accounts, some individuals won't stop. I got series of messages like this in the past when I was new to the forum, but I ignored such people without giving it a thought. Someone who wants to own an account should go through the process and build one on their own. The ones that came to my DM mostly come with the offer that they want to sell an account to me. Like why would I buy an account that I don't know what the person has done with the account. People doing such things are taking big risks and they should stop it.

Back when signature campaigns were extremely valuable, account selling was very common.
It’s surprising to see that accounts are still being sold today.
Getting into campaigns now is much harder, with requirements like merit and trust.
People who are too lazy to put in the effort to build up an account don’t really belong on this forum.

Account sales would have demand today too. But things have changed after merit system was introduced. It's become harder to farm accounts from zero to high rank as it used to be. Back in old days it was scary to imagine scale how huge these account farms was.
IIRC, there was even tool made by someone where you can evaluate price of your account, but now it seems that this website is offline for a long time:

This type of PMs is not new to most of us here, the most popular is one legendary account seller back then that spam our inbox with account buying offers,  majority of them are scammers
Report the pms to moderators he may get a bigger punishment from the mod that can keep him away from the forum.

You could have sent this screenshot to the forum administration (report to admin) instead of attaching it to a public message, right? That would have solved your private message spam problem (or simply added this user to your ignore list).

Nope, reporting to mods won't help much. Account sales aren't prohibited, so, mods won't do anything. Maybe it can be considered as unsolicited PM spam, but I'm not sure.

Am not even bothered about account sellers, the people am concerned for are those that actually buys accounts because they are risking a lot of things such as the account will be tagged as a bought account thereby reducing the chances of people to trust that account since it will change hands in style of writing and probably the favorites boards of the original owner. Again, it might be an account that has been used to scam in the past so buying such account means that you will risk the account getting a negative feedback for scamming which will render the account useless.

Instead of buying accounts why don't just build yours, if you are a knowledgeable person you will grow the account very quickly. There are users that are still member or full member ranks but their merit counts has reached the level of a hero member rank so it depends on how productive and helpful you are that will determine your growth in the forum.

Taking shortcuts is never good, that applies for all aspects.

However, despite the strict rule behind it, you can't stop these people if they want to sell their accounts and exit the forum, or just trying to focus on other accounts and work on it. Just ignore this kind of person, you know what's right, so better stick to it.

Its always wise to create your account from scratch, you will harness yourself in the forum more while you are working to rank up the position of your account.

If someone can't develop their account and is rushing to buy another, one with a higher rank, what guarantee is there that they'll be able to match the previous account owner's posting?

There is no guarantee because when an account changes hands, the writing style also changes. The previous owner may have progressed in the forum in a certain way, but the buyer usually knows nothing about that history. That is why bought accounts keep getting caught again and again due to differences in their activities.

When there is an option to start fresh and build something good, I really don’t understand why someone would need to buy an account. If a person buys an account, one way or another, they will surely get caught and when that happens, the account will definitely get tagged, this is 100% sure. Normally, nobody trusts a tagged account and other forum members don’t want to do any deals with them. In the end, it means the money spent on buying the account can be wasted in a very short time.

For example, let’s say someone buys an full member account for $xxx+-. If they didn’t spend that $xxx+- and instead started from scratch, and if they put the same level of effort into the forum that is needed to earn $xxx+-, they could probably reach the level of a full member within 3–4 months. This is just a demo calculation. I don’t know if I’m completely right, but I believe my point definitely right.

The reason on why some people buy accounts is due to the fact that they can participate in multiple signature campaigns.

Remember that ever since the merit system was introduced in the forum, ranking-up your account became a real challenge to those who are lazy to contribute to the forum. Instead of seeing it as a goal, they saw it as a hindrance on their part because they know they have nothing to contribute. Now what is their remedy? They message random accounts asking if they sell their accounts.

Like what you said OP, buying and selling accounts is prohibited in this forum. I hope this thread becomes an eye-opener to those people who plan on purchasing accounts. Once you get caught, you will face the consequences that follow it.

People bought brand new accounts because the ones they created couldn't post anything and didn't know anything about the ip limit. So beginners bought fresh accounts (perhaps a large number for farming).
I think this practice still persists somewhere, even though bounty campaigns aren't as popular as they once were.

Buying accounts for farming in altcoin bounties is not big problem with the forum as those accounts only make their bounty reports in Altcoins (Bounties) board, and we know except these bounty hunters, nobody visit that board and read those posts.

The account sales become bigger problems with forum community when buyers bought accounts from Full member rank and above for joining signature campaigns. They make non sense posts for their campaign post quota and create massive spam in the forum.

Before 2018, no merit system, spammers could rank up easily with spam and time, but the merit system was considered in months by theymos before launching it as barrier against spammers in ranking up. It has worked well in the past, earliest years after the merit system kick-off but recent years spammers can rank up easily again and spams began issues again.

I have been inactive on this forum for 2 years and I was also offered to sell my account. Of course, I declined, as I have a certain reputation on this forum and I don't want to sell it for a small amount, in case someone might spam the forum or misuse my account in some other way. Besides, I was planning to return to this forum sooner or later anyway, When I have more time to get active again.

And for those of you who want to buy an account, just stop doing that because it's a waste of your energy. You might want to skip the effort of building an account from scratch, but it's just plain stupid to buy an account when you can build it yourself.

Some people are doing it for no two reasons than to buy the account and use it to join a signature campaign after they earn some merits from friends or from people that they know. I.also do not see buying Bitcointalk account as something good, to build account on this forum is not that hard but some people want to get to legendary easily but nothing should come very easily.

I love how everyone here talks about morals and stuff and how things should be, but let's face reality
- Your average Joe from a 3rd world country will not be able to normally rank up in a decade
- your average Joe is not interested in spending years ranking up he wants to earn money form a sig NOW
- there are plenty of accounts that are being farmed every day to be sold, yeah, just check the merit begging topics in main or in local boards
- for some it's easier to rank 10 accounts than to post with them, for some, it's harder to rank up than to post, there you have it, demand and offer

So yeah, appreciate all this talk on how it's bad, you shouldn't do it, oh no morals, but account trading keeps and will keep on happening as long as there is money to be earned!
