WTF...all the way back down to where it lifted off from..actually lower than this morning. XMR just can't get a proper rally/pump going on.
It did hit new USD ATH during this pump, which is something but a 100% retrace is just absurd, given the bullish crypto market environment.
I added to my position this retrace.

Monero is being used in real business. It's a bit different to other coins.
If your business earns money in Monero, you are inclined to sell gradually at tops like this. There is more selling pressure, as real people with real businesses rely on it (legal or not doesn't matter..). As stated very often here, the price is way more natural. So the dip from $37 to $34 is no surprise.
We'll be >$40 in less than 2 months.

OK, ELI5. How does the candle go green so tall then fall so red? Break it down for me. (I understand general stuff but how/who makes it happen so quickly?)

Buy low. sell high. When its low, someone(s) buy and buy, make it go high. Its high, someone(s) sell because it's high, make it go low. Volatility tends to draw volume, exacerbating moves. FOMO. BTW, looks like it's not over just yet...

Great to-the-point, clear-insight post here. +1 all the way. No, strike that... +100 in fact : this goes a long way to very simply helping explain and understand the "WTF" nature of XMR lately. Monero is different. Monero is special. It ain't no damn just-another-clone shitcoin and it AIN'T No DAMN Pump&Dump vehicle. MONERO IS REAL MONEY. If I wasn't already all-in now (from taking the plunge MONTHS ago) I'd sure as shit be doin' it now... LOL

One thing I've noticed over the past month is these big spikes usually go back to where they started from. Like a few weeks ago when the price went from 0.019 to 0.022 in a matter of minutes, stayed there for a few hours and then dumped right back to where it was. My guess is one of the Polo pumpers notices that the price has been fairly stable or maybe has a part in accumulating some, then tries to orchestrate a big move hoping that others will follow. They sell off some coins for a profit then dump it back down to where they started from. It happens quickly because they don't want someone else to beat them at their little game.

I am not a specialist in chart analysis, quite a beginner actually (but I've always been a fast learner ) but I did take a look at the all-time chart of XMR : The Monero bubble has popped twice in the past (but it didn't seem like a big pop when seen in fiat, because of the rising BTC price), always at 0.022 BTC. We keep seeing higher and higher lows, having a shot at the 0.022 always sooner and sooner. It seems reasonable, if we were to reach the 0.022 resistance again and again, and when it eventually breaks (could be in a few weeks / months according to this graph, or sooner if good news arises and the trend accelerates). Super bubble will form then? (like Bitcoin does every cycle, surpassing previous ATH) Or, like the common crypto folk call it: MOONSHOT? My friends, I think we are sitting on a sleeping giant. I've always thought this, by thinking critically about other coins and how the monero devs sounded to me and thinking about the specs of this coin. Now the chart is confirming it.

The Monero pump came shortly before the BTC pump, but in USD terms we hit ATH and still bullish. On 1D XMRBTC chart the bollinger get tighter and we also proceed more horizontal into the triangle which defines the trend on 1D scale. The outbreak from this will be huge. In XMRUSD terms we have some kind of parabolic movement forming.

A parabolic movement would be rather sweet.

Rather than postulating a manipulation with supernatural skill, my supposition would be an impatient entry by a new Monerist, followed by an opportunistic exit as soon as the deposit xns could occur (Risto?). We remain with a surplus of demand, and the parabola seems.... Inevitable.

exactly my thoughts too. there may have been an additional margin call on top of it.
