Let's stop forking the hashing algorithm after RandomX (which will fail to achieve the stated goal, like every other attempt) and embrace specialized mining. Enough time has been lost.
I am pretty sure that is explicitly the plan, if you are right. I believe Ricardo Spagni agrees with you on this and wanted to just do SHA3. But the community went with one more shot at ASIC resistance. But I think the plan is if this does not achieve it then we are going to stop trying. Yup, old news but then again look at what the source is. Lol To be fair, I wouldn't even waste a second reading a coinbase blog but there is no way it has Monero's interest at heart no matter what it says.

An article worth reading reading Coinbase's view of Proof of Work: https://blog.coinbase.com/how-coinbase-views-proof-of-work-security-f4ba1a139da0"Claim one: It is a security feature for a particular coin’s mining operations to be the dominant application of the hardware used to mine that coin."
If this statement is correct, and I think it is, then the whole XMR's strategy of forking the hashing algorithm to foster CPU mining is unintelligent. You can read my response to the article here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/du2m7i/coinbase_blog_criticizes_monero_pow_philosophy/f71lt09/Let's stop forking the hashing algorithm after RandomX (which will fail to achieve the stated goal, like every other attempt) and embrace specialized mining. Enough time has been lost.
That's the intent, i.e., the current 'contingency' plan is to switch to an ASIC friendly algorithm (such as SHA3) in case of a RandomX failure.

I havn't read that article and won't bother but one thing I think is over looked is that botnets are a net plus for securing the Monero eco system and we will lose them with sha3. Or a large portion of them I would think.

Yeah, its been around awhile. released by NIST on August 5, 2015 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHA-3

Unfortunately the volume is really low. So I think this represents a lack of selling pressure more than anything else. Miners are starting to hold XMR more. I find it interesting that hashrate has been SO insanely stable since the last hard fork. It clobbered the first area of resistance at .007-.0073. And it has parked at around the second area of .0075. The are i am looking at is ! .00775 If we are able to push decisively above that I am not sure there is a lot of technical resistance above it to even .01. I just made all that crap up and typed it in here. I have NO idea what I am talking about. But I still wonder what is going to happen?!?

I love seeing lines on charts and bullish talk and never check if the lines are correct nor the analysis as it never changes my buying strategy anyway. But I still love it.

Well this is huge, time to warn the guys to dump. It's not that huge. The main thing that got deflated here was the hype about MW being a strong privacy technology when in fact it has always been weak privacy with some other benefits, and sober (non-hype) review and analysis has said that all along. Then again, I guess given the level of hype with this one (more than most, to say the least), deflating that could indeed be seen as somewhat huge.

The cut-throughs don't successfully eliminate data, because surely some entity logs all the transactions in real time and stores the data. And there you have it, a full blockchain.

So what's all this talk about monero.org being hacked and some malware being downloaded from the site? How does something like this happen to one of the biggest crypto projects in the space?

I just read about it. Apparently for 35 minutes download links on getmonero.org for new CLI were changed. https://np.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/dyfozs/security_warning_cli_binaries_available_on/Locks are for honest people. They all can be broken. What is nice to see is that it was noticed in 35 minutes. Oh and GRIN main trait is how scalable it is and not how unlikable are its transactions. If you look here on this 14 videos of Breaking Monero. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsSYUeVwrHBnAUre2G_LYDsdo-tD0ov-y And see how many possible attacks were/are to increase chances for attacker to link Monero transactions. Then you can imagine how many episodes can someone make about Grin.
