I checked your link about mirages/atmospheric refraction. Unfortunately in my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0ObTd7DLMw you can clearly see the bottom of the ship as well as the top, all your images are ''doubled'' in a way because of the mirage/other effects. However you can clearly see none of those are in my video. Sucks for you..

If I use a sextant to measure your height and it reads 45 degrees, you must be 2,700 miles tall.

Non-mechanical gyroscopes can be used to prove the earth is rotating.

Actually, a ship sailing across the horizon is either vectoring towards you or away from you. The only difference between a ship that is sailing directly away from you is that it will take a greater duration of time to sail over the horizon. The ship-over-the-horizon distance will remain the same.

Now, I know that that term, and others like it are used here and there. But nobody seems to describe what is meant by it. Did you find its description in this forum? Where?
