I tried several times to install the “MultiBit HD 0.1.2” application for Windows. I could not use the file because it was classified as a threat by Norton Anti-virus and deleted from my system.

The file “multibit-hd-windows-x64-0.1.2.exe” located at the address shown below may have been compromised:

https[Suspicious link removed]

Since I tried to download and use the file on two different computers and had the same problem, I recommend MultiBit check this file out and advise their users accordingly.

You very likely downloaded it from a phishing website, or Norton just sucks (which it does).

I went directly to the official MultiBit site: "multibit.org" and downloaded the file in question by clicking on the "Accept Terms" button and then the "Windows" download button.

The download location and resulting file was the same as shown in the "Code:" box in the above reply.

I have the latest updated version of Norton 360 Premium. That being the case, the file may be a threat, or the file may contain questionable code making it look like a threat. Either way, I do think the file should be vetted by a qualified tech.

No, the file is completely safe, 0 detections out of 63 different virus scanners, except Norton.

Norton is complete crap, and I dare say, a virus itself. Please install a better anti-virus.

I have to second that. While Norton is in the most expensive Anti-Virus out there. It is also in the worse. For scanning malware i recommend Malwarebyte. S&D isint too bad either.

Problem Update:

Still not able to install the 64 bit version of MultiBit HD on my 64 bit PC due to Norton blocking. So I took a different approach:

I had a few warning alerts during the process, however, I did successfully install the 32 bit version on my 64 bit PC. It has been running well since the install and I have not received any further alerts from Norton.

due to Norton

You might want to try an Anti-Virus that isint the top worse one out there.

Go dowload Malwarebyte and scan it with that.

I get you found a work around that work for you but honestly. Norton =/

Needless to say, you, and other's points are well taken.

I have just tried the install with Avast running as my virus protector and there was no problem.

No doubt, when it comes time for my Norton renewal, I will certainly take these events into consideration.

BTW: Deciding to move to another virus/system enhancer should not be much of a problem. Apparently, Norton has removed most, if not all, of their system enhancer features from the basic product and put them into the latest version of Norton Utilities. Not a bad idea except for the price for all past features moving from approx. $40 to about $70. What Huh Now we have to pay an extra $30 for the same support features? No!

Bottom line: No Norton upgrade/renewal for me. Ten years of my loyal support down the drain.

Oh well...

I'm more concerned about how vulnerable Norton is against real threat. How ineffective it is at catching generic threat (50% maybe?). Avast is probably better at the free level. I'd say give Avira a try too.

And the free Malwarebyte is fantastic. You just have to run it manually. If your problem is not being able to know what not to click on the internet what you need is some internet security, but there's no foolproof protection when you click random things like grandma.

The best virus protection is you.
