Theres a whole list but the main point would be as you are a viewer on the net not a web server or an email server so any port you use is specific time limited not open, why would traffic be coming to you without request so you dont want open ports like open doors.  You only open a port like you open the front door, hence the idea of shieldsup is check you are not leaving yourself open to be a server. 
   The biggest or most common danger where this occurs is people on the net via cable, it can be very poor security or at least used to be and strangers will scan your machine and retrieve files etc.   Shouldn't happen nowadays but thats the most frequent occurrence historically, nowadays they'll attack via phishing etc which is an attempt to convince you to grant them permission of some kind.   If you google iobit and use that software you shouldn't find its any trouble to it, not going to argue whose best but they arent the worst and it uninstalls when you ask which can be right after 1 free use.

ports can be an open door into your computer. its why you dont want them open except for very specific circumstances.

there are ~64k ports. some are dedicated to certian functions. others are chosen by the program.

for example the bitcoin wallet uses ports to find and communicate with other nodes.

Remember when $10 pumps were big. Then, Gox times and 2014 ATH $100 pumps were huge. Now its $1k pumps that seem huge. Whats after next ATH? $10k pumps in one day? That would mean if you own 10 BTC and sell perfectly on top and buy on the lowest, you could make $100k a day in a perfect scenario  

Yes... I member that there were increases in the amounts of BTC price swings that ere a BIG deal..

I am pretty sure when I first started trading BTC and practicing my laddering, I had orders that were only $5 apart... The price was in the $200s and $300s, so yeah, each order was triggered by $5 movements in price, which actually was not even easy to reach, sometimes.

In any event, of course, the numbers get BIGGER with the increase in BTC price, and of course, we are likely to make much better decisions if we consider the significance of BTC price moves in terms of percentages rather than dollar amounts, even though when we are caught in any particular BTC price range it is usually easier to think in terms of dollar amounts rather than percentages.


Also, don't be selling all your BTC merely because BTC prices move a wee $10k in a day...!!!!! .... Contemplate a more reasonable plan!!!!!

Most home connections involve a router (with NAT/PAT) which by default blocks all incoming connections to all ports. So they're not concerned in what's reachable from the internet as much as what services you have running on your PC (the timing part is just a technique to identify open vs closed ports). Essentially, when you open goldman's site they can check if you're running a bitcoin node and if you do display a page of a middle finger rather than a log in page. Browsers should probably push an update ASAP to disallow websockets to local host by default.

This is, in my opinion, one of the more likely reasons these coins would have moved.  The person making these waves and taking this opsec risk HAS to have a good reason to do it.

in the past I have seen posts where people discussed the need to declare value if bitcoin you carry too.

Still, it's unclear whenever we cross-border, if we have bitcoin that needs to be declared. Because even if it's not a hardware wallet, I control my bitcoin through phone or basic internet. Similarly, I control fiat also through my phone in bank accounts or credit/debit cards of multiple countries.

So I don't think Bitcoin needs to be declared when you cross the boarder.
