Indeed props to Kraken being such a quality platform.

Do Kraken require verification if you only trade between crypto-currencies? It's one of the reasons I currently use BTC-e, but with all the problems people have reported with deposits/withdrawals I'm looking for a new exchange - have been looking at Bter but their website doesn't fill me with confidence...

You only need Tier 1 Verification to trade DC's on Kraken. I'd stick with BTC-e. I know everyone is shouting from the rooftops about how BTC-e are the next exchange to go. What they forget, however, is that BTC-e have proved themselves over the years. MtGox were -always- a joke.

Thanks (and also to the others who replied)! I have never had any problems with BTC-e but got a bit worried after I saw some of the responses to support tickets after the TX-mal debacle. I'm not fussed about them being anonymous - I can understand why, given their location - but at least they should try and provide decent support when stuff goes wrong.. I'm only ever converting mined LTC to BTC once in a while, no actual trading, so have a low exposure to risk of them going AWOL - I'll stick with them for the time being and see how things go Smiley

Will we break 700? Strong support and building at 700.

If today is going to be anything like yesterday, that 2k is toast.

No. We are trying to sell that 2k.

Let me translate:

I, rpietila, own that 2k ask wall. I am going to use my own USD to buy through it, probably around 10am Eastern time because that is when I expect a big announcement on bloomberg. My buy will encourage bullish sentiment. You will hear much, "OMFG, did yoU SEE THAt wall get eatEN! OMFG WTF<B UY BUYB UY!"

Very amaze. wow.

Epic.

And the mass will wire money to exchanges such as bitstamp and kraken? Doubtful.

They always do that 'big news tomorrow' thing. It's incredibly tedious. Their last bit of 'big news' was the acquisition of ZeroBlock. YAWN.

When I started, somebody else had all the bitcoins, including the unmined, which I didn't plan to find myself.

It is no lottery, you are uninformed.

If everybody else are stupid, I loose. I bet they are not.

If everything play out as I expect, there are only winners, including the non-users.

You are free to make your own choice, but when you want to blame others for that, don't expect me to listen to you.

For an digital currency that is used for drug trade to get into the field of legal finance is a lottery. Most of the people here have absolutely no idea about finance and maybe that's the reason why it doesn't seem like a lottery to them.
I'm not blaming anyone here, I was just making fun of the absurdity of bitcoins coin supply and you seemed to take offense. Don't be so touchy if you want to look confident about this subject.

with any luck 3am will bring a shooting war, i'll be flush with fiat from short SPUs in the morning, and can buy more btc.

Hate to do it, cause the guy has brains, but war profiteering is not honorable.

1...2...3....4....5....6

Confirmed - Aminorex now in the ingnorechain (and anyone who quotes him - that's what the ignorechain does).

Happy to be ignored.  I'm not here to impose my ideas on anyone, but I can't let that "war profiteering" comment slide.

My bet is that war is bad for business.  My task is to estimate price trajectory distributions.  If a war is likely and likely to move prices, I'm going to adjust positions accordingly.  Anything else is just doing the task badly.  If I thought doing the task well would cause anyone more material harm than being forced to trade down to a lower grade of cognac, I'd be doing something else.

Being offended by my "with any luck" language is entirely understandable.  I often use a certain kind of offensive language because I find the incongruities  and dissonances amusing, entertaining.  When using offensive language, the risk of offending is high.  I should probably do it less, at least.  It helps me to be skeptical of my own motivations, which I find useful, when I put my own behaviours in the most cynical light.

I am happily gratified that my luck appears to be bad in this case, and Russia looks likely to stand down, and assume a more constructive posture in Ukraine.  I would prefer to make more money, ceteris paribus, but if ever a loss was happily taken, any loss on SPUs due to a more congenial outcome in Ukraine is one. And ceteris is almost never paribus, although we must perforce assume it is, most of the time.  I'm still shorting SPUs through August, though:  That's a war for justice and truth, and I think I can win it without collateral damage.
