Had I bought BTC instead, I would now have an extra 0.67 BTC = $65,800.

I lost $59,300.

No you didn't. You lost a potential gain of $59,300. That's not the same as actually losing $59,300.
I don't think this is news to any OG on this here famous thread. We've all been there.
It's what I call a "shoulda, woulda, coulda".
Thinking like that I could say I lost 95K because way back in the day, I sold a coin at $500. Because at the time profit.

yeah, true..i also "lost" in potential gains on AAPL, AMZN, TSLA.
Yet, here we are...bitcoin, an ultimate savior of bad traders  Grin.
That's why i could not understand the short-sighted OGs who sell their precious bitcoins for fiat that could always be printed and at the point in bitcoin history when almost everyone seem to want to get it: funds, family offices, large companies, sovereign wealth funds, etc., etc.

Mind you: the games that would "force' you to sell will be endless...

On my first read, your description was a bit confusing and I had to do a double-take.

Ok. I did the calculation.. and I see that $1.4 billion of value would be about 15k BTC, but in this situation, no actual BTC were lost (or injured - except maybe an opportunistic bouncing down of the BTC price).

You are merely translating the value of the ETH that was lost into BTC value and saying that the Bybit attacker got 15k worth of BTC value, yet no BTC were actually taken.   I just wanted to clarify that, since it could have been that others could have had been confused too, besides my dummy lil self.   Tongue

I was trying out bitcoin as the unit of account.  Still not easy for us.

But that was it.

Also this is hilarious...

But on a more somber note...

How many countries... How many organizations. How many para-governmental agencies are trying to take down Coinbase?

Just imagine the risks.  Technical. Social. Conspiratorial.

Sigh...

...some Canadians felt that booing the American National anthem was the right thing to do

It was the right thing to do. So glad Canada won that game. And I'm ashamed to admit I hold an American passport.

But on a more somber note...

......

Is this not a good thing?
I thought every OG on this here famous thread hates Coinbase. Amirite?

(To be clear, I don't.)

Yeah, of course, I didn't actually lose any capital. In fact, the LTC gave me more than a 3x gain over the years, so I made an extra $4500 out of the $2000 I put in. Way better than a bank or average stock.

But, as you've said, "shoulda, woulda, coulda"...

Bitcoin should be our primary, if not the only coin that's in our stash. Primary as in 99+% of value.

Definitely not a good thing. Is a terribly risky attack surface.

I do openly dislike coinbase, and Brian A. But in a way similar to how I think the ETFs are a mixed blessing.

I dont know about OGs. I'm just a half baked poker player.

Ha ha!  Good one.
...and so true.  Though I still feel bad some Canadians felt that booing the American National anthem was the right thing to do at the previous match-up and I am sorry for that too.
I noticed there were people booing our Anthem last night and I expected some reciprocal hatred from some of the Americans but I like to think that some of the boos came from Canadians upset with Chantel Kreviazuk who altered the lyrics to align with her own politically motivated beliefs, thereby detracting from the significance of the anthem itself.  Not only did she change the lyrics but she messed up the timing of the song and was also off key.  Lady, the lyrics already speak for themselves or hadn't you noticed?  Roger Doucet is rolling in his grave right about now.

Ah, the good old days when anthems were not anathema.

I am not going to pretend I understand or approve of trumps weird shenanigans re: Camada.

But I am noticing something interesting happening here.

The politically correct environment we have been in for twenty plus years is suddenly vanishing into a cloud of shittalking rivalry.

Maybe in just twisted, but there's something I like about it.
