I don't normally merit "newbs", but you nailed it my friend. (I know, you are not a "newb" in the date registered sense)

I appreciate it. I don't mind being a noob, as in fact I am. I may or may not have suffered a previous boating accident. But whether I did or did not, I was smart enough to maybe make a backup account in case anything happened. I never thought I would use it, but it's nice to have. That being said, I really did not have any issues when I was reborn. To celebrate the 100k milestone, which we all thought were pie-in-the-sky numbers way back when. I also did not ruffle any feathers other than what I feel was my given right to say FUCK JJG (it was Thursday).

In any route as stated, I am not quite sure, as he sounds genuine, just misguided. That being said I have no clue why this thread is important to someone who just got here  like it is to me, who has quietly read (and reread) every page in this thread (admittedly skimming some of the bot's walls of txt)
But for real, the eclectic opinions I have read in the many pages of this thread have given me the conviction to get to where I am today, and I really do thank you all for helping me get there (except notlmbchop); he has ruined my hopes and dreams.
I do think one day they will study threads like this to see what the "early adopters" were like. The only real censorship here is the hive mind. Just like I do think the advice given to the other noob is all good, even if a bit rough. That being said, I may have just been part of the trolling... in that case, touche, magic hallway!!!

Off topic I would like to say it's crazy how much a bit of a pullback freaks out the guys who got in this cycle. I mean, even though the numbers in stoopid fiat are changing drastically, percentage-wise we are barely above ant level. The level of indifference I have is surprising to me. And everyone around me who refused to listen over the last 12 years is more concerned about my fiat value rather than converting whatever they can and jumping on board!!! I keep telling them 1 BTC = 1 BTC but they continue to ask me what the "next bitcoin" is. I really am about to give up faith in humanity.

We all have (well I think) one more month to prepare for hopefully life-changing decisions. I hope all of the old and new guys get to where they want to be this cycle, and if not, I will enjoy the next 4 years shitposting among the greats. Either way, this journey was never about getting rich to me... never a bad byproduct though. Remember we all get corn at the price we deserve.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

here is a merit.

the dollar shrinks that is how it is designed.

I go back to the 1960's with good ideas of prices from the 60's

Counter service at Woolworth's 5 and 10 store. My late friend used to walk a mile in the summer of 1969 to buy ice cream banana splits.

there was a promo. You pick from a row of about 50 balloons. There was a piece of paper inside with a price of 1 penny to 49 cents.

That is what you paid for the banana split.  I mostly would get 47 or 49 cents. 1 time a quarter.  We did see a guy get one

for a penny.

So let's say a banana split was 45cents in 1969. at some places a good quality banana split is 13 dollars.

https://www.stardustcafenj.com/items/banana-split

that is 26 times the price.

The dollar is going to shrink.

So pick what you want to hold the cash in.

Gold
Silver
Copper

BTC
I can tell you it is easy to keep btc as it is small so to speak.

Copper I am storing tons of it it is not easy to store
Silver I have kilos of it is is a bit easier to store.

Gold I have some.

A home fuck that shit.  my property  taxes are mooning like mad.

Bonds like my wife's 401k

Yeah the 401 k goes up 4% a year

but the dollar is shrinking at 6%

so it is not a great spot.

Of course, there are many other examples in which fuck you has gone wrong,
*cough*  fuck you jjg thursday  *cough*

I was thinking about other kinds of examples where saying fuck you goes wrong where the deliverer of the message was not in a solid of enough position to follow through with the intent of his message.  Fuck you JJG Thursdays seemed to go wrong for other reasons.

I used to love the idea of having my own day, even if there was a bit of negativism contained therein, but maybe I was either not cooperating enough or maybe I was cooperating too much.

That's a tough sample of an example.

What is the deal with not really being hated enough? Inability to get consensus around the message.

I am pretty sure that BTCETFInvestor would have loved to have had his own day like that.. . .yet he is a bit of an ambiguous character in this whole scene.. which almost causes me to speculate that he might be engaging in his various drama pieces on purpose.

For some reason, he wants and needs attention, yet at the same time, he does not know what to do with such attention when he gets it...

It might be the the line from "A few good men" .

When someone's position is weak, using strong language is not exactly acceptable. Sometimes, even for other reasons, saying the same thing to a specific person doesn't fit the situation.

We may seem less cooperative in trying to hold our own, and sometimes it goes too far. But the point is to find a balance, and sometimes the easiest way to bring people together is to find a center of hatred. But when that hatred isn't shared strongly enough, it becomes difficult to build consensus around the message. It even feels like a line from A Few Good Men. So as much as he needs attention, he understands that he seeks it, but when he gets it, he doesn't know how to handle it. BTCETFInvestor enjoys the drama of his day, but deliberately places himself in the middle of the scene.

When someone's position is weak, using strong language is not exactly acceptable. Sometimes, even for other reasons, saying the same thing to a specific person doesn't fit the situation.

I have frequently thought that it is better for a person to controllably lose his cool every once in a while, so that character does not work very well for a person who is always losing their cool

If you are constantly losing your cool, then when you lose your cool, it has no power.

So similarly with language, if you are person who never swears (or infrequenty swears) then it will be more effective when you do decide to swear if you can do it in a controllable way.

Guys get in battles frequently on the internet, and some of the battles can last for quite a long time.  Usually the guy who really loses his cool loses the fight - yet on the other hand, if someone just fakes losing his cool, then he is not really losing his cool.

Frequently it is possible to tell the difference when a guy has really lost his cool versus that he is just throwing out some expletives for the mere sake of emphasis (and/or provocation purposes).

Some of us will purposefully provoke the other side of the argument in order to contribute to their losing their cool. . which if you may recall the battle with BTCETFInvestor a week or two ago... when he flew on a few rages and then he seemed to have had enragedly deleted a large number of his then recent WO thread posts, he lost his argument and also he likely lost a lot of credibility at that time (whatever he had left).  There were several members in this thread who were taking his side of the argument prior to his having had lost his cool in such an obvious way.

We may seem less cooperative in trying to hold our own, and sometimes it goes too far.

Any of us can lose our cool and/or go overboard in our interactions with other forum members, so surely this thread is more than 10 years old, so a person who is brand new to it or maybe had not been participating, he might need to give some time for guys to get used to him.. .and I am not even going to concede that guys are hostile to newbies unless the newbies come out playing hardball... and we are not in the physical world where someone can just come out swinging and knock out the BIGGEST guy in order to gain credibility.  I doubt it works so much like that, even though some newbies might come to the thread with a certain hostility like BTCETFInvestor did after he got caught with some questionable posts that just got worse and worse if he might have just apologized from the beginning and said that they were not his own pictures but that he had a HAM setup that was similar to that.

But the point is to find a balance, and sometimes the easiest way to bring people together is to find a center of hatred.

I am not sure if the goal is to bring people together unless we might share some ideas - maybe starting with bitcoin but also if there is some need try to stay somewhat substantive, so if someone comes and they are pushing some alternative agenda.. or maybe if they are battling with other participants for no reason or they are making shit up.. or they are not responding well to allegations that they made shit up, then those could be interpreted as somewhat hostile acts.

You are correct, and it is not good for a newbie to put himself in the middle of the scene.. even though many guys here love technical geeks such as ham radio operators or even guys who have other technical backgrounds and they might be able to share a few stories (that are not made up).

I used to love the idea of having my own day, even if there was a bit of negativism contained therein, but maybe I was either not cooperating enough or maybe I was cooperating too much.
ngl having your own day in WO is pretty impressive, at least i think so

A bit of a surprise for sure.

I am pretty sure that BTCETFInvestor would have loved to have had his own day like that.. .
lulz as if lmao

There is usually a need for some endurance.. since even Jorge Stolfi had a bit of endurance for like a year or two... before he finally abandoned us.

And, there likely needs to be some substance behind the cute face too... at least a bit of substance.

Stofli was a bitcoin naysayer and even a no coiner hater, yet BTCETFInvestor claimed to love bitcoin, even though he claims to ONLY own bitcoin spot ETFs rather than actually owning bitcoin, which might put into question the extent that he knows bitcoin beyond his attempts to get price exposure.

Hi there...

Here comes a new week in a new month.

All I got.

Do you think that our odds for further down in September might be lessened if August had started out around $113k and ended slightly below $108k (something in the ballpark of a 4.5% drop)?

Theoretically it could be easier for September to end up from $108k, even though sure we have right around 14% in total to make up for if we want to get to another ATH, to the extent another ATH is still in the cards for September, October or perhaps later this calendar year (referring to 2025)?, but yeah we should not necessarily start counting our chickens too prematurely.

I don't know why but I suddenly got a hankering for a banana split but I'm going to make one instead of going to DQ.

I bought Chapman's French Vanilla 2 liter box for $3.99 and the bananas for $1.69 (in this case 9 but it's 3lbs of bananas - obviously the size of the bananas determines the number you get).  I'm going to use 150ml of the ice cream and 1 banana.   I don't use a lot of fancy toppings, usually cocoa powder and strawberries but I'm splurging today with some homemade dulceata visine (sour cherry preserves) from a friend in Romania as well.  Sadly, I didn't have any pineapple to crush.

 ice cream - $0.29925
 banana    - $0.18778
-------------------------
 sub-total  ~ $0.49

Not too bad considering the historic price of a banana split.  Here's where it goes pear-shaped: Fresh strawberries are $8.99 for 2lbs and the cocoa powder (my wife only buys the organic stuff) was $27.95 for a pound.  I'm going to calculate in grams because it's easier on my brain - I cut up 50g of strawberries and sprinkled 7g of cocoa powder on the whole thing.

7g of cocoa power - $0.4309 (almost the same cost as the base ingredients!)
50g of strawberries - $0.495 (more than the cost of the base ingredients)

I put a couple of teaspoons of the sour cherry preserves - you don't need much as they pack a lot of flavour - but since I didn't buy it, I can't add the exact cost.

What banana split would be complete without the whipped cream?  I just buy the can and leave it in the fridge it was $5.49 for 400g - it says the serving size is 15g but who uses that piddly amount?  Let's say 40g (to make it really easy)

 40g of whipped cream - $0.549

This banana split was quite large - it overfilled a cereal bowl and was probably enough for 2 (that didn't stop me from finishing it off though)

IngredientCost
Ice Cream$0.29925
Banana$0.18778
Strawberries (50g)$0.495
Cocoa Powder (7g)$0.4309
Whipped Cream (40g)$0.549
Total$1.96183

I was surprised to learn that the cost of each individual topping was worth nearly as much or more than the basic ingredients combined.  Those toppings are a luxury!  If bitcoin is going to dip much lower, I'm going to have to go with just the ice cream and bananas and forgo all the toppings. Ouch! I just checked BTC again... maybe I'll just have the bananas.

my late friend and i talk that walk most every day in the summer of 1969.

I miss whaling away on a ludicrous amount of quality deserts.

it is hard to believe that two or three doughnuts are worse for me to eat than a few shots of whisky.

Worse of all is no more italian bread on a regular basis.

maybe 3 to 5 loaves a year. vs 2 or 3 loaves a week.

I actually miss good quality bread 🥖 more than desserts. 🍨.

but no Pizza is really hard.

Now I will tell you prices. My local pizza joint had a two pies on a tuesday special.

$9.99 for two plain pies I would buy a quart of beer from the store next to the pizza joint and rent three movies from block buster.

I would eat 1 and ½ pizzas and drink the quart of beer. Pass out after the second movie 🎥 wake back up an hour later and finish

the third movie and the last ½ of the pizza 🍕.

That is not happening any more. Oh well it was fun while it lasted.

Two pizzas and a quart of beer are around 30 bucks now

so 10+2+3 for the pizza beer and rentals  was 15

now 30+4+15 for streaming = 49

say 1997 to 2025

new members are becoming more rare

Only quality members are.

@d_eddie - Correct! Quality members are becoming more rare because they're being run off with harassment by OGs that think it's fun to treat newcomers like shit.
