As many experts believe, Altcoins are the best laboratory for new features to BTC.
True Altcoins can experiment with things that BTC needs, without disrupting the original blockchain.
Beta coins, on the other hand, will build upon existing BTC protocol and bring "zero trust arbitration" to many other aspects of our lives (e.g., proof of existence, copywrite, contracts laws, mortgage laws, DNA, etc.).
Andreas Antonopolous said, "Changing BTC core protocol is like like repairing a jetliner while in flight."
Altcoins sell things that BTC currently doesn't provide. But that doesn't necessarily mean BTC dev s cannot , or will not, incorporate in the future...
Greatest symbiotic example is Litecoin (the silver to BTC's gold).
Cheers,
JaiChai

it occurred to me that there always needs to be a vice president
so say if bitcoin got seized or controlled somehow, then litecoin would become the pres so #3 is still has potential and so on
The more I meditate on this I recognize that it really has the potential to transform the global economy They are not about to let that happen WW1 and WWII weren't pretend
This is the most interesting time in history.
Satoshi is either a modern messiah or a covert operative
I wonder why the NSA just wouldn't put those datacenters to use and mine all the altcoins left

The NSA mining dogecoin, there's a thought. Perhaps it wouldn't be smart to waste resources on it, the more they tried the more other coins would pop up. Look at the marketcap of top 20 alts below from coinmarketcap. The top 20 alts add up to 3,894,217 at the moment versus Bitcoin 12,236,125 BTC. To dominate the markets they would they not have to fight a rising tide of popularity that they might have helped to create? (edit, this list below isn't quite relevant as it includes coins you can't directly mine).

It made it stronger, due to the extra attention.

Hi to all. I'm having some issues to configure my trademybit (or multipool.us) autotrades to crypsy. I'm looking for mining the best altcoin, change it to btc in cryptsy and sell. I put the same crypsy Trade Key that I find ind cryptsy dashboard and put it in all altcoins autotrades adress list, but a error message appears: Invalid payout address.
Can't I move the mined altcoins to cryptsy to sell?
What I'm doing wrong?
thank to all, miners.

You need to go to your balance on cryptsy, hit the button on the right, and select Deposit. There you can generate an address which is what you enter on multipool.us and trademybit etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCF1oaRcD3o This video of the process might help you too if you want to auto-sell instead of doing it manually.

For all of those who are mining with locked R9 280x's and have windows + msi afterburner, try this! [Settings] VDDC_IR3567B_Detection = 32h VDDC_IR3567B_Output = 0 MVDDC_IR3567B_Detection = 32h MVDDC_IR3567B_Output = 1
That should be in your MSI AFT profile, should unlock your card, at least worked for my MSI Gaming 280x's.

No altcoin is perfect. There are certain twists or nuances to many that have come out, but, there do seem to be many that were just put out to be put out. Or, at least that's how it seems. But when you look at a much larger picture, not ALL will fail.
The best thing we have in our favor is that everyone likes diversity. There may have been just one office supply store, now there's OfficeMax, Office Depot & Staples. They each get a share of the action and do quite well. Same for Home Depot or Lowes. The Sexcoin (SXC) will do great for the porn industry. There are a lot of transactions people just want to keep private.
Then there's the Doge & Cat Coins. PERFECT for the pet supply industry. PetSmart, grooming, etc. A dog owner may choose to use the Doge and a cat owner may choose the Catcoin. Pretty simple!
This is going to breakdown to niche markets and the basic understanding that people love different choices.
The marketing guys need to wake up, or we need to make our ideas better known. This is still the wild, wild west! Remember there are what? 6 1/2 billion people on the planet? Anyone know how many are on line or on phone? EXAMPLE: There are 500 Billion AlphaOmage Coins (AOC). If 5 billion people each had 100, they're all used. I hope the lightbulbs are turning on...Grube

Ggrube that's a great point! Lots of people will just identify with some coin and buy some. We have around 200 countries on the planet, each with their own fiat currency. There's room for another 100 that people use on a regular basis me thinks. Some people don't get thought that the coins are more then just a way to send/receive/store money. They're software platforms that can support lots of additional features. This is a great video to understand it more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs6F91dFYCs&feature=share&list=UUC3L8QaxqEGUiBC252GHy3w&index=1I'm really interested in specialized "coins". Check out Protoshares..

I never realized how much easier it is to mine new alt coints until I tried yesterday to mine Coinye coins. My computer doesn't have good Graphics Card for mining and I knew it is just waste of time to try to mine bitcoin so I tried litecoin instead. It takes me 3 days to earn 0.01. Then yesterday I started to mine Coinye coins, I managed to get more than 2500. Only problem now is that I don't know what to do with them
