$60 a year for 2gb looks worth it, spread this weight out.

But still pay attention to "Acceptable Use Policy".
In example, "Crissic Solutions" forbids P2P software

Can someone explain what
"You can generate the next block in X amount of days" refers to?

I see my client jump around from hours to 1 day to 127 days, I know the rate
at which one can forge is dependent upon the amount of NXT you have,
but if there is luck involved, how is this
"You can generate the next block in X amount of days"

constantly changing so drastically?

I'm assuming it's similar to a solo mining calculator referring to
"the average amount of time to mine a block"??

If the only thing needed to access an address is the password, what would happen if more than 1 addresses have the same password?
you would access the same account which is why choosing a truly strong and unique password is of key importance

e.g. try to put "test" as password and you'll see that you have access to that particular test account

I know that it's very unlikely to use the same long password in 2 different addresses, but the problem is that someone could just spam different passwords and randomly hit some existing addresses.

thats why we are advised to use strong randon character password ie 50+ letters number symbols

the time is reset after each block, it just means some one else beat your account to generate the next block, time scale will always jump around after each new block

I'd also like to start getting some optimized VPS settings wiki'd

what I have done:

created a couple NXT accounts and transferred 100nxt each into them
created a couple VPS instances, currently testing two 8gb servers generously funded by pounder, hallmarked with the accounts

I'm using laowai80's tutorials, with the java reboot settings

I'm using CfB's known peers

Can we share some feedback on weight vs server RAM?

These 100nxt hallmarked accounts don't need to ever be logged in correct? unless they were intended to forge, but 100 coins is useless.
The hallmarking of the VPS uses the weight as node strength?

Even with long passwords, it could be profitable to have hacker farms spamming random passwords, if Nxt prices increases enough to be worth the effort.

I was going to suggest compiling a list of minimum requirements for different Weights, but a few days later, when there is more information available on how hardware behaves, especially under DDoS, still testing. It can vary a lot. And I think we haven't seen a really heavy DDoS yet.

Minimum hardware + web.xml settings with requests per second, allowed number of peers, etc. for different Weights. But still need a few days to find out. Besides, it's still alpha releases, when the software is more mature, it could be more stable, it could also require less or more RAM, we don't know yet, so this list of requirements would be very rough at this point. In my setup guide I recommend that people just fund a special node account with 10-100 NXTs and use that for hallmarking, 1 Gb RAM should be able to hold that ok even under slight DDoS. So, share your experiences, and we compile some requirements here.

I found one just by guessing:

qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm
(I did not steal the coins, they were gone already.)

I guess this is the 12345 of long passwords!

Eventually, even long passwords will have a top 1000 of most used. People are too lazy to invent secure passwords. Popular song lyrics, poems, whatnot. Avoid anything that makes any sense.

That´s their problem, isn´t it?

If you are dumb enough to put a bad lock on your house, you shouldn´t be surprised if things get stolen either.

I have no pity for people who are sloppy with their computer security. It´s simple enough to use a good password generator. If you aren´t even willing to do that, you basically deserve to be robbed at some point.

its abit like this,
i may leave £500 in my weak ass safety deposit box in my house(weak password)
i wouldnt do the same with say £1,000,000 id leave it in a massive fortknox style safe(strong account)
everyone who currently holds NXT has the option to create another secure account with a longer password. if you havnt done so already then u are asking for trouble

Also, has anyone experimented with large weight hallmarks? ie 1000
Or will that simply be a zombie lure? and then clog up the block chains like we saw on 0.4.4 ?

This is the same kind of argument as saying "unless the locksmith made multiple keys".
Just like the locksmith would need to follow you home, the hacker would first need to know where you are going to use that pass.
