Well MOON is fucked. I haven't even opened my wallet for months. had it encrypted and the keys help in a truecrypted vault. This isn't FUD. Moon is broken and I have suffered a terrible loss.

Yes I'm saying that. My keys were encrypted in a wallet along with bitcoin keys. My bitcoins are still there. I haven't opened my Moon wallet for a long time. So yes, Moon isn't secure. See what happened:

On the 15th EVERYTHING has been stolen. The hacker's wallet is 2DMfpxPiMtpVDVyrxQAAmfBbZnDH4XCMfK. He has over 6 billion moon. Presumably all stolen.

The only possibility I can think of, based on other people's posts, is that I had my moon wallet open a VERY long time ago with an insecure conf file. But this would have been more than six months ago. I'm not even sure that this is the case though.

I can't believe this. But to anyone who thinks I've had my coins hacked by being dumb, I haven't. All my other coins seem to be secure, although I had far more Moon than any other coin. Since so much moon has been hacked into a single address, there must be some vulnerability affecting Moon - perhaps only affecting large wallets? Anyway. This is a disaster for me financially. Talked to Cryptsy and some 15 billion coins were stolen from across various wallets.  They put a stop to it but the damage is done.

This was not Cryptsy's fault - people left same RPC PASS/Login across multiple wallets and someone with daemon wallet cleared them out.

Newbie error strikes again!


But what a massive buying opportunity this created for MOON buyers.

Part of it breaks on a weekly basis, and KNC are so strapped for cash that they can't RMA their broken hardware. This is my major loss. I actually think crypto is pretty doomed, except perhaps for bitcoin. There are too many alts, too much greed. I got into crypto because I was greedy, and now I'm paying the price. My total losses (mainly by buying a KNC Titan) are in the region of $15000. I've made nothing back.

So I'm sure there are some people out there who get rich in crypto. But be careful how you dream. It's gambling. And if you dream of bitcoin being worth a fortune then great, but it might not. It might be worth a few dollars next year if people decide its not actually that secure, and there are other payment mechanisms which can do the same thing better. It may well go the way of Beenz. I'm just saying.

I'm not saying you are one, but maybe you just don't think when you write stuff on forums. Try and put yourself in other people's mindsets when you say something. I'm almost certainly older than you, and I've learned not to write all sorts of crap online. I used to do it (not as badly as you just did) but I used to email people in a dickish way because when you write stuff online it doesn't seem the same as talking face to face.

Sorry man, I thought you were just fudding cause who leaves crypto cause of one hack for a few hundred bucks.  I thought you were just trying to scam people.

Sorry for you loss.  I almost lost $7,000 to BFL last year.  Thank God PayPal got my money back and instead I just put it all on BTC at around $130. 

When BTC is cheap it's better to buy actual BTC instead of the mining gear.  With $15K you would be considered a Bitcoin high roller.

Don't give up - you will see that BTC is gonna sky rocket next year and it's not too late if you can buy yourself a few Bitcoins and just hold on.

I totally understand how you feel. Quit crypto if you feel you must (I've considered it myself - it's f**king brutal sometimes), but don't throw anything away. Don't be that guy searching a dump for a usb or hard drive in 5 years time.
