What news? Nothing happens the on 25th other than an announcement and a listing of new websites/service names, etc.  I understand the buy the rumor, sell the news hype cycle with respect to new tech releases, but I don't think it quite fits the current rebranding situation.

I think all the buying is either 1) people who sold thinking the name change was going to sink us now desperately getting back in before their losses really balloon OR 2) people that liked the tech but stayed away due to the shady name now finally buying in.  

#1 would in theory only reverse the effect of their selling out. Clearly this is a result of #2 compounded by the folks who are now NOT familiar with the tech, but are now willing to listen for the first time due to the name change.

How long before we can forget the parity with BTC and just be concerned with what the fiat/DASH exchange rate is? I've been watching the $US/DASH rate more than anything else because that is a better indication of value for me. BTC has been dropping while DASH increasing. That doesn't always translate to a value gain. Many people here have been talking about the .02 level like it's approaching some record value in the history of DRK/DASH. But the last time DRK/DASH was at the .02 level, BTC was at ~$600 which makes DRK/DASH ~$12 per coin. To attain that same $12 level, at current BTC of ~$260 the BTC/DASH would have to be about .046.  The highest BTC/DASH level ever was around .0274 and BTC was around $540.

I get the excitement of where DASH is heading, believe me I'm stoked about it, but .02 doesn't excite me. $15+ would for me be the more exciting event because that would be record breaking grounds. The point where nobody really gave a shit about BTC value in regards to DASH would be the big day.

DASH and BTC will decouple on a person by person basis. For me (and apparently you;-) the decoupling occurred when I divested myself of my small BTC holdings back in early Dec. Since then I pay no attention to the BTC price. I buy it for fiat and immediately convert it to DASH. As more and more and more people follow this pattern the DASH/BTC pair will become the concern solely of currency traders trying to invest, or to hedge.

At this point I suspect that the BTC whales like our friend Otoh, are still highly influential, and they can afford to hold both as hedges. But for small fish like me, the decoupling is already complete. The day is coming when the whales will recognize that the majority of their holdings are best served in DASH. So far it seems that only Otoh has realized that the 5,000 masternode limit is not that far away.

I agree with that. I do the same with BTC to DASH. I'm 100% positive I have spent more time waiting for BTC confirmations so I can buy DASH than I've spent actually holding BTC.

I don't think people are realizing how difficult it is becoming to acquire 1k blocks worth of coins for setting up masternodes without moving the price a bit. There's about 5 masternodes worth of supply between .0196 and .02 on Cryptsy... And with a masternode, you are getting an income stream to perpetuity, assuming you keep it running.

I thought that according to Duffenomics, the masternode count was supposed to decrease with increasing price as people checked out. (i.e. the price of the collateral increases to less collateral is needed). Then increase as price reduces as a stabilising action.

As far as I can see the masternode has increased over the last week by about 100.

I think Duffenomics said that the number of masternodes would increase until the rewards (payments to masternodes) ROI isn't compelling anymore.  Eventually, if we wanted even more masternodes, we could reduce the "cost" of funds put up to run one.  Presumably, we could cut the required funds to 500 and double the number of masternodes.  I think they might be working on a way to ensure a minimum server resource size, like 1 or 2 CPUs of certain ability, and ram as well as hard drive space.  Or that could have been talk?  I don't recall
