Thanks Gavin,

You couldn't have said it better. FUD actually drives a lot of good folks into making horrible decisions.

FUD makes cleaning on the market. Hope the scam project won't survive.

Theoretically there could be a scam coin with malicious wallet/node code being used by some big exchange.
This is a way Exchange hacks can happen from time to time.

Just joined the forum today, and this is a great post to read. Glad it's been stickied, and I'm guessing this will be relevant for a while to come.

That's partly why I haven't messed with the alt chains. I even mentioned this on the announcement thread for lxcoin but it got drowned out with all the excitement about it

Yeah, new 3rd gen blockchains still need to be vetted in my opinion. However, doesn't hurt to throw some money you can afford to lose, because if any of the popular ones hit, you will see some nice returns.

I want to create an alternative special-purpose blockchain. It would use a proof-of-work function that is different than the one in Bitcoin.

Although this has been posted on the year 2011, it still remains valid and useful. Thanks!

Blockchain Security
The Blockchain is the underlying technology supporting digital currencies like Bitcoin; it’s a decentralized platform that securely processes transactions through encryption
The blockchain has the ability to enhance reliability in business processes by eliminating political and economic risks associated with trusting a centralized system.
Trust and transparency can run together while leaving a public audit trail for their activities for everyone to check its validity.

One would think that someone who even tries to code knows to rather not say such things to programmers

There are already a lot of such blockchains. For what else to create, in fact, now there are so many blockchains that the market will soon be oversaturated, I think that many will simply disappear with time!

The one's with a practical usecase are here to stay though. Some redundancy will disappear eventually

I agree blockchain is a rather powerful technology. But you have to be careful when you are working with crypto-currencies. There are many risk factors.

Indeed blockhain is actually a pretty powerful technology but I think blockchain is the most advanced technology at the moment and I'm sure blockchain technology will be used by many countries and its risks to crypto that I think is reasonable and our job is to minimize all those risks

I like it. Block chain is like a digital file where all payments made by the cryptocryncies as recorded. Its make payments faster and safer.
