I don’t know why you want to send private messages instead of publishing the airdrop on the proper board. I would say it would result at least in a warning but I’m sure some moderator will give you the proper answer later on.

The reason why is that the forum has so many threads and not all participants in other Airdrops will see it. So it might be good idea to send message to them privately because there is no public tagging system here..

That's called spam, and it is the reason Newbies can now only send 2 PMs per day.

That must have been due to the fact that you have registered to some of the bounty and you are identified as the interest group.

I see a business opportunity, but I'd need a bot to send the PMs.
I can send 120 PMs per hour, 1200 per day, to 30 recipients each. That's 36,000 recipients.
If I get my LoyceBot a Copper Membership, I can have 14 recipients per PM, 80 per hour and 600 per day (total 8,400 recipients).

I can imagine services would be willing to pay for this. Scraping an opt-in thread is easy. If someone can recommend a PM-bot, I'll create an opt-in for airdrop PMs.

Oh I almost missed that opt-in part. If members have subscribed for the service then it's totally fine to send them a PM.

@Loyce - The best way to do it without a lot of programming would be Selenium Web Drivers. I had a similar situation a few days back where I'm suppose to forward the same message to a number of contacts on WhatsApp. I used a Selenium Web Driver to open What'sApp Web which reads the contacts from a data file, searches them in the WhatsApp list,if found a message is sent to them.Took me about 3 hours to set everything up.

Me too! That's why all PMs will show a link to the opt-in thread. To opt-out, simply delete your own post from that thread.

It won't be unsolicited of course. I didn't turn into a spammer after reporting thousands of spam bots.

By definition it's not spamming after an opt-in.

Thanks, I'll look into that. My ideal solution would work from the command line though, as it gives me most flexibility.

You got your answer, OP.  Yes you can get banned for doing this, and don't think that people won't report spam PMs.  I've gotten a number of them and I think I've reported them all.  That's one of the things the mods take seriously on bitcointalk and one of the things that'll earn you a ban.  Just don't do it.

I've probably received less than a dozen spam PMs in the 3+ years I've been here, which actually isn't too bad.
