You're doing something wrong if you can't open it, try downloading again and extract it to a folder with winzip

"newmint" are blocks you found that have not yet been confirmed by the network.

Each found block will need to be confirmed 500 times before you can start to use the coins. They will eventually be added to your balance, indeed. PoS reward amount is included in 'stake' together with your stake amount.
