New Article about BlackCoin: The Black Menace: Blackcoin Aims to Be The New Standard For Cryptocurrencies
On February 16 2014, bitcointalk user rat4 launched Blackcoin. A revolutionary cryptocurrency using Proof of Stake as the main method of coin generation. In less than 3 months the coin has skyrocketed to a high of just over $.20 and then settled down to around $.13. People are going crazy over Blackcoin! There is even a Dutch company that offers Blackcoin as a payment option for their airplanes. What is it about this coin that makes it so appealing? There are a few big things that stand out to me in this coin. First of all, you have the Proof of Stake (PoS) function. Proof of Stake mints new coins based on compound interest in the individual users wallets. The total interest is 1% annually. This relatively low interest rate helps to keep the inflation at a reasonable pace. Proof of Stake means that Blackcoin is technically unmineable, however multipools have sprung up that pay out in Blackcoin.  Unfortunately this defeats one of the perks of Proof of Stake which is energy efficiency. PoS is not the only cool feature of Blackcoin. It also features 10 second confirmation times making it the fastest confirming coin currently available. This speed makes it a viable option for businesses who may not want to bother with BTC transactions that can take 10 minutes or longer... Can someone explain to me how block rewards are calculated in the Blackcoin code? It was 10k BC during PoW.

Taken from main.cpp from github:
Code:
int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 64 * COIN;

    // Subsidy is cut in half every 840000 blocks, which will occur approximately every 3 years
    nSubsidy >>= (nHeight / 105190); // Blackcoin: 105k blocks in ~3 years

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

Why does it claim a block reward of 64 coins initially?

What is the value of that "COIN" variable?

If the reward was 10K then that variable value should be 156.25 (10K / 64)

from util.h:

Code:
static const int64 COIN = 100000000;
or, 1 Blackcoin in satoshis

Are you sure you are checking the right source code?

This is the main.cpp from BlackCoin:

https://github.com/rat4/blackcoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp

You can see there:

Code:
int64_t GetProofOfWorkReward(int64_t nFees)
{
    int64_t nSubsidy = 10000 * COIN;

    if (fDebug && GetBoolArg("-printcreation"))
        printf("GetProofOfWorkReward() : create=%s nSubsidy=%"PRId64"\n", FormatMoney(nSubsidy).c_str(), nSubsidy);

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

Nothing with 64... and that method "GetBlockValue" doesn't even exist in the main.cpp

My wallet just now registered a 'mined' deposit to an address that I do not have listed in the wallet.

I'm familiar with receiving deposits from staked coins. The addresses that receive the deposits are named. This particular payment simply lists the address.

I though maybe I had received something from Mintpal ( ?? clutching at straws ) from when I briefly had some BC on there. No, my deposit address doesn't match ).

Anyone experienced anything similar ?

EDIT just noticed received another 11 days ago too

Adding to kraken.com

Hi there,

The CEO of kraken.com (payward) is a contact of me. Ive met him several times and discussing (through e-mail atm) adding BC to kraken.com. They are not so fond of adding 'just a new coin' to their exchange and do a thorough security, background and community check.

So, im trying to convince him and his team to at least take a good look at it. Working on that ;-)
If i have some news, i will post it. (also check my twitter @cryptocoinnl )

Are there any tech BC contacts he could be getting in contact with regarding some tech questions if the arise?

Regards,

lolwut?
a scam that has been running for months and paid out daily or what?

if you read a few pages back you will find more detail, in short: blackcoinpool has been under several DDOS attacks and is currently down for a short maintance.

Why do you bother about adding BC to more and more exchanges when you can trade BC <-> BTC with 0% fees in NXT Asset Exchange as soon as a gateway for BC is implemented?

Devs should take a look on this!
