No coins provide an income and the only gains come from selling. The purpose of holding all coins is either make profit, run a smart contract, or elude authorities. The price of a coin is always speculative and has nothing to do with underlying value (the same is true for some stocks). In the case of EMC2, the market cap is extremely low ($20M) yet it is listed on exchanges that see up to $1B volume per day on altcoins worth up to $30B and lots of an antsy traders with panic disorder. That means that price could potentially surge up to 10,000% with the right kind of pump, just based on crazy traders even if there is no underlying value. Im not saying I'm making that kind of call though there does look to be a nice looking bullflag on the chart right now.

EMC2 is one of my favorite coins to day trade. It will pass over 4k before the coin burn. Great time to get in and wait to double your money.

Iota seems like it could change the rules of the game to me. The tangle seems to better represent how data is structured in nature than blockchain does, so intuitively it sounds like it should be more efficient, but I guess time will tell. We are happy to announce that Poloniex supported the EMC2 FORK, and they are now running new nodes (wallet version 0.13.48.0 - Excalibur). Bittrex and others are already supporting it.

FORK will occur on block 1699157. The date displayed on the poster is calculated based on current block and block time equivalent to 60’’.

Burn:  After the FORK, approximately 55 Million coins will be burned from the future supply. There will be half a million coins less per month added to the circulating supply.

there is no new coin, the supply of coins will be burned, hence the total supply will be less. Your coins are safe, due to the fact that bittrex has updated their wallet to the newest version. So don't do anyhting just wait till the burn has taken place.
