The Nigerian Economy has gotten to the stage that was describe in the bible where woman sell and eat there children, it's very very pathetic and unbelievable to hear of a woman selling her child to settle loan,  this is barbaric and inhumane and this case should be treated as a child trafficking case because no matter what your not expected to sell your child. Any one capable of doing this can also kill and do anything to make money.
We all know that the country is passing through tough economic situation but it doesn't call for things like this

A woman in Lagos has been arrested  for allegedly selling her own child for loan repayment. https://www.facebook.com/100068662700306/posts/pfbid02wJ4dCkxnhCP6p5eHek3sYzvEENGSdqw1xzCDxNwHiSBgA178hmZMoXZfmRLN7Rpl/?app=fbl

when I first read this story there were two observations that came into my mind as food for thought:

1. She was asked the reason for her actions. She said she wanted to repay a loan company, the loan repayment amount was 600,000 thousand naira, an insignificant amount not even enough to exchange a human being, no amount is even enough compared to a human being.

such action by a Mother exposes how hard the economy is really biting hard on the citizenry, for a mother to go through the process of pregnancy for 9 months and the pain of childbirth and yet still go ahead to sell her own child just to repay a loan, it's like taking us back to the slavery era in modern 21st'C.

2. The second was in relation to how people take loans for ostentatious purposes such as birthday parties, wedding or luxurious living.  However as a human being, is always advisable to alway take loans for the purpose of financing projects with a Return-On-Investment potentials  you can use to pay back your loan.

Just because the opportunity  availed itself for you to borrow a certain amount you  know you cannot pay back, doesn't warrant you to jump on the opportunity, as it's rather not an opportunity in real sense but a debt trap.
This is really terrible, nothing can be compared to human life let alone common #600,000, this actions really boils down to our judgment as humans and the kind of society we leave in, people don’t really rate humans that’s why you see the disregard for human life, they say one doesn’t know the value of what he has until he loses it, if only this woman knows the amount of pressure other women go through in their husbands house because of children, if only she knows the amount some people spend going from one hospital to another, one religious house or the other, undergoing one procedure or the other simply to get a child that’s when she will know the value of human life.

Yes i know Nigeria is hard currently due to inflation and it’s putting people under so much pressure to the extent they resort into taken loans, i also know the pressure some of them face from the loan companies but it shouldn’t warrant her or anyone to risk the life of a human just to upset a loan, now loan she hasn’t cleared and she has landed herself in real trouble, thank God it was detected else what would have been the faith of the poor child, we live in a cruel world, different things keep on unfolding. It is well.

It is inhumane for a mother to sell her own child to settle a debt, no matter how huge the amount she is owing the loan company doesn't give her the right to sell out her own blood just to repay, most at times we borrow money without having a repayment plan. Borrowing money is not entirely bad because even the federal Republic of Nigeria borrows Money too but the hard question here is, what are your repayment plans before borrowing money from a loan company?.

Instead of selling her child she would have just be doing menial jobs and be paying off the loan bit by bit, Nigerians are facing hardship this time and they do anything to get money and survive so you can't even blame someone that borrows money but there are some people that don't borrow money for any tangible reason. You see them borrowing money for weddings and for funerals and afterwards they run helter shelter for them to repay while those kind of loans don't worth it, it's only business loans that you have a repayment plan for that it's advisable to take.

Honestly this is so sad,how on earth a woman to sold her own child just to repay loan she took, security agency needs to look into her matter thoroughly, she needs to be check medically either she's mentally stable. As a man I know how It hard for me to bear stomach pain at times, I always feel like dying I do lost hope to live again, talk less of a woman who undergo menstural cramp, pregnant pains for nine months, at times under go operation that leads to death to some ladies, breastfeeding for two years and also child training.

This is so serious, this attitude is commonly occured with men that don't have ideas for sufferness women undergo, if not that they forget so easily none of women will like to give birth to more than one child, talk less of selling out her child to settle loan. it's obvious that she needs medical checkup or the child doesn't belong to her, because Omo dis woman heartless.

Whenever issues like this come to the public people should make sure they report to the authorities so that such woman will be arrested together with the buyer of the child because nobody knows the intentions of the buyer considering now that everybody is chasing the money without looking back, if the person needed a child why not go through the legal way of adoption so that everybody will no instead of buying somebody's child direct against the will of the child, I'm glad that of all the things that have refused stopping in Nigeria, this selling of children has drastically reduced because is not common now from the year this thread was here.

How can you tell it has reduced, we don't just hear of it doesn't mean it isn't happening in so many places. There is no justification to what the woman did, there is no price to human life, selling or trafficking a child deserves lawful punishment, both the seller and buyer of the child will definitely serve punishment, now the child will be forced to be kept under the care of a stranger custody until everything is dissolved.

Imagine the child growing up to know about such story concerning his mother, even in repentance it is an unforgivable act for the child to let go.

I say that because we are in a country were everybody is looking for an information they would share on there timeline so that it will boost there page, so actually if it was still much they would have been spreading it on the social media, it seems you have forgotten Nigeria way of information especially this kind of information because if they're not sharing it means is no longer happening or is going on but nobody have been caught. Except the person has a soft heart to forgive the woman that sold her and still call her mother because is something that's unforgivable no matter how realizing and regretful the person is.

Just because the opportunity  availed itself for you to borrow a certain amount you  know you cannot pay back, doesn't warrant you to jump on the opportunity, as it's rather not an opportunity in real sense but a debt trap.
If the loan is not repaid properly after taking the loan, then that loan can have a major negative impact on one's life. The matter seen in point number one is really heartbreaking. The woman who sold her child for a small amount of money is in no way acceptable. The small amount of money here is not a big deal, but the work she did by sacrificing her love and affection cannot be valued with money.

A person can take a loan for his needs, but he must have knowledge about whether he has the proper ability to repay that loan or not. Generally, one should not do any work with a loan that has no benefit. If we try to take a loan only for our entertainment, then it will be difficult to repay that loan.

There's a way that seems right unto a man but the end there off is destruction say's the Holy Book. What did she used the loan of such amount for, and how important was it to her at that time? These are questions only the woman knows well to answer. For we know the country is hard and that's why it's demanded of us to make wise decisions as it concerns money. There is no justification to selling a human being be it your child or not, she just have to face the full wrath of the law for such action.
This one shock me oo, as I see the title of this thread, and I check the date, na old news so I come really dey surprised say I just dey see this new now, and I been don dey post for this our local politics and society for long now, I never even see something like this, but that one no be issues sha.
Concerning the topic of discussion, na really sad and regrettable action that woman take because no amount of money go fit replace human being life. The country hard no be an excuse, and if you do more findings, you fit discover say wetin she use the money do na total nonsense, so she and the buyers have to face the full wrath of the law because na human trafficking be that, which is a very big offence for Nigerian constitution.

What kind of bad stupid act is that.  If the story is really true, then the police need to arrest that woman and take her to the  psychiatric hospital to check if she is mentally ok. That means she doesn't even care about the child in the first place, maybe someone gave her advice to do it because I don't think a sane mother will do that. That child might be subjected to child labor, sex trafficking by the people she borrowed from. Because that's how they are going get their money back.

We all know that the country is passing through tough economic situation but it doesn't call for things like this
Na prayers Nigerian economy matter be now oo because what's currently happening in Nigeria right now is not just a thing of hard economy alone but it is a test from God. A mother selling her own child just to pay up a Debt? This is not just wrong but a pure evil but even the Prophet has warned us about a time when poverty will be so heavy to the point a man will wake up as a believer and will become an unbeliever before they go back to sleep and it is obvious we are in such situations now with the event of things both believable and unbelievable we are witnessing every blessed day. I hope we will among our selves learn to live a life of selflessness where the rich people will be open enough to share their fortunes with the poor ones in good faith.

I was at a loss for words when I first read this news because I believe that no amount of money can ever be equated to human life. Going to the extent of trading your child should not be an excuse to sell a child, and I have even witnessed situations where young mothers give birth and abandon the child anywhere, which makes me wonder what kind of heart these people have. Anyone involved in that act should be detained by human rights and brought to justice because they deserve it.

I'm still shocked and cold as you, we understand the pressure that comes with debts and when the debtor is been called on the phone or harass on daily basis, frankly speaking some people can't withstand pressure that comes with borrowing money. I myself took some loan few years back in other to sort out things for myself and there was an agreement that I'm to pay 12,000 naira every month until I make full repayment, after taking the loan things got more difficult for me and I couldn't pay the appointed time frame and it keeps increasing I had no other option than to lease my farmland to pay off the loan before it runs into millions and I knew the pressure I went through so many people can't handle such pressure and it keeps resulting to people committing suicide.

No matter the condition it is not right to trade the life of a child for  loan, life is precious and worth more than money. The victim would have been paying it bit by bit than selling her child just to repay, it's a condemnable act and such woman should be punished accordingly by law.

I see no reasons blaming the woman, how can we live in a country that Is blessed with numerous mineral resources capable of providing good and stress free life to all citizens but its now a success of sorrow to all just because of corruption. Each time when I look at the criminal accounts of our past leaders I begin to ask if they are humans at all because I don't think any human can be that wicked converting all to his because of greed. Ranging from the time of Abacha till now all we see is constant stealing and they call it refined names just to cover there corrupt mindset. It is only in nigeria I have seen snake swallow public funds and the government did nothing other than praises but will go ahead arresting a lady that sold what she has to avoid bringing the child up in  away his future can not be prediction.

That woman has taken a wrong step by selling her own child, that child she sold can become even a billionaire in future. Besides she is not the only one indepted, even this country Nigeria is owing, because of the nature of the economy now, some people are passing through ontold hardship and survival has become difficult for some people more especially in the cities. I don't really know how much money she borrowed that accrued to this 600k and that money seems big to a poor woman like her but she did not do well at all.

When you borrow big amount of money from a platform or from someone, make sure you use it judiciously, if you did not borrow it to solve a biting issue, use it for business so that you can be able to repay .

Some parents na evil and the prayer be say make them no born us for the family wey no go see us as important in the family, no matter how much person dey owe company or anyone, the person suppose get pity say time hard for everybody, I no blame the company because na the woman get mind go borrow money wey she no fit pay, if not be country wey don spoil how much be 600,000? No any amount fit buy person, and e be like say no be the woman born the pikin because if na she born the pikin wey she carry for 9 months she no go think of doing that nonsense.

My observation for this story be say maybe person promise her big money wey go make her decision of selling her pikin, nothing money no fit make person do, I no blame the situation of the country say na waiting make the woman do because no be only her be first person wey country dey deal with, instead of the looking for a better way to pay the money back she want to sell her pikin, this our country sha, we just dey see many things

Like we know most single mothers no longer think straight anymore because of the pressures that they are facing in other to raise their children, but selling a child to repay loan is not a good thing to do because if she used the money she borrowed wisely or to do a business she will not need to sell her own child to repay a loan. Everyone know that the economy is very hard but that should be the reason why every parent should think better.

In my opinion, this action by a mother exposes how severely the economy is bitting the citizens, for a woman to carry a pregnancy for nine months endure the pain of the of the childbirth on still go and sell her own child just to repay a loan shows the depth of hardship people are facing. It is a tragic situation that feels like a throwback to the era of slavery. The volumes about the depth of hardship people are facing. It is heartbreaking and feels like a tragic return to the dark days of slavery.

No doubt that the economy presently is very tough but that is not and excuse for a mother to sold out her child she has laboured so hard for over the years all in the sake of paying off a loan, that's madness and  something that's totally unacceptable,  children are special gifts from God and can't be compromised over anything. However their are better ways out things like that would have been settled instead of selling off a human being that's very sad.

Secondly, nigeria has come to a point that is almost irreparable all because of currupt and wicked leaders that we have and until we rise up as one and say enough is a enough things will still be the way it's or even worster than this.

Please, we should stop blaming government as the cause of this woman's selling her little baby. Hardship is at everyone's doorstep. she isn't the only mother facing hardship. If her own mother had being like her, would she have grown up without already be sold for a foolish reason or another. This woman should be handed over to the police for prosecution. Selling of babies can't be justifiable,it is illegal and an abuse to the child right as a human being. The buyer who bought the baby should be apprehended and the matter should be thoroughly be investigated and the woman should be charged to court.

When I saw the news OP brought at first what hit in my mind was what is the world turning into, how can mother who went through pain of childbirth sell her only blood for a loan she is owning.
People nowadays are doing evil for this so called money..
To me she went to fall with this, money can't buy life how will she leave with this guilt of wanting to sell her child just to replay a loan, I no the hardships dey but that doesn't warrant her to do that my prayers be say God go help this country evil thing happen ohh.

Poverty is not just a lack of money but lack of options. It's such a painful reality, and this kind of act is survival gone wrong,I mean women should be given or have stronger economic safety nets.

For a woman to consider selling her own child, it means Every legal option had failed her, every support system was absent, hunger, debt, and fear had cornered her and all hopes were lost.

A child is not a property,A child is life, future, and responsibility. But economic downturn is one of the challenges that people face that quickly makes them vulnerable especially women, single mothers, and the poor.
It has really become unfair and unforgivable, that when systems fail parents, children pay the highest price.
