You're right paying attention to news online is also a way to avoid scammers, however the other way to avoid scammers is also by keeping our details very  private, and also we should be very careful with all this  malicious site that requires connecting our wallet. we really need to be careful with those site because scammers can easily gain access to our wallet through those sites, this  are few Ways in which we can avoid being scammed.

It is good that you didn't respond to the chat, every unknown messages are treat to bitcoiners that's why we have to be careful in what ever things we are doing on the interne. Internet is a big environment that accommodates both good and bad behaviours (depending on the rules and regulations that guilds the platforms). The important thing a bitcoin should do is to be careful the kind of links they click and were they connect their wallets also.

Yes, they might play some tricks on us, so that we can fall a victim and make them happy but we should outsmart them, when they think they are smart. For example, I was checking something on Facebook and then a message pop up and I was told to invest a certain amount and I will have my interest and my capital in the next 24 hours and they even show me the screenshots of those who have been benefitting from them, just to make me believe they are real, which I know they are scammers but I never doubt them, I picked interest and make them believe that I was on their side, so I start doing what they told me to do reaching when I was told to deposit some certain amount of money and I did but it was fake, they called me to tell me that they haven't received and I told them but I did and then they knew I was faking them and it pained them that I didn't fall for them instead they fall for me.

So that is how it should be and not the other way round, we should always be ready to outsmart them in anyway they try to scam us.

They are not stupid but wicked,  stupid are someone who lack intelligence or common sense while wicked use their wit to do evil things.

If you call a scammer stupid then you have underestimated them because you would not be expecting much from someone who you have called stupid because of their actions, but some of this scammers these days are very intelligent that they can even still fool someone who knows about their existence. I hardly respond to the PMs I receive from Telegram because I don’t chat on Telegram, and other social medias. I only join groups to get the information’s that I need, so whenever I receive any message, I already know it’s from a scammer, so I don’t waste my precious time responding to them. When some people contact you, they will be seeking help from you, you will never know they have the mindset to scam you, only when you already know about their technique or when you start trying to help them before you will know they are trying to scam you.

The other party publicly exposed their private keys, seeds and everything I need to get those funds out, I just need to send out some transaction fees from my own account (greed kicks in). Smart contract/scripts/bot (whatever you call it) is being played here, and the moment something (fee) gets in, they are instantly taken out. For people that are not knowledgeable enough are the onces that will get scammed, because when it comes to this guy's a lot of them think they can use there scheme on everybody, when you have the right knowledge I don't think there be a problem problem handling them.  There crypto currency channels that makes everything more easier because you will get latest news related to crypto and that might not be that important, when you have the correct data you should not have a problem detecting what is true and what is lies.

And why you make provision to use a separate device for your wallet and another one for accessing the internet? Even through our own emails, we can receive unfamiliar links and links, as scammers target all channels to find victims at any time. And they are one step of the game, so every time they have a new scam, people fall for it and then there will be warnings. But the time those warnings came to light and their scams was exposed, a new scam was developing and then the same thing happen.

So it's like a cycle that they really know how to victimized unsuspecting individuals specially the elders who they target because they are vulnerable because of their age. So hopefully this elderly persons will have someone in their lives to look after them so that they won't be the next victim and their hard earn money will not be stolen by this bad individuals.

On social media, official accounts, moderators, staffs of projects don't DM users in a community first. If it is a DM for potential business partnership, from an account like Facebook or X, you must check further information from Coinmarketcap.com, Coingecko.com and even other sites to confirm that those social media accounts are official project accounts.

In project community chat groups, channels like Telegram, Discord, anyone DMs community users first is scammers. It's very basic but important rule to know and obey it will help you avoiding scammers who are impersonators.

There are many cases like this, even on TikTok, with random messages from strangers asking for help or claiming to be an inheritance because they're about to die and have no one to turn to. The scammers really try to make this happen.
The victims are mostly beginners, and it's very likely they'll be more easily deceived than those who have been around for a while. They'll think the seed phrase is shared publicly and there's nothing to fear. Certainly, people who have been in this space for a long time will notice the oddity of such actions.
