Speculation: New Trezor Product Coming on 14 June

Trezor has just released protective covers that they call bumpers for Trezor Safe 5. They are supposed to protect your hardware wallets from damage and scratches. It's not something I would personally buy, but if you have a tendency to drop stuff, maybe you'll find them useful. You can use your Safe 5 and its touchscreen with the bumpers on as they protect the back and the sides.

They are made of TPU, which is a kind of plastic with rubber-like elastic properties. A bumper costs €10, and it's available in 4 different colors: transparent, orange, green, and violet. You can purchase them from the official shop.

To me it would make perfect sense to buy a protecting case like ons of those ones for the Trezor Safe 5, compared to the rest of the products of Satoshilabs, it is an expensive product and it is wise to protect it from scratches and falls, specially if holds an important amount of money. In that idea in mind, it would also make sense to get some crypto steel from the Trezor store together in a bundle with the Trezor Safe 5, so both the expensive device and the important seed phrase can be both protected from damage.

As a side note, I am the kind of person who does not like when a device like a phone or a watch starts to get scratches.

Paying extra to protect your seed makes more sense if you ask me. A steel plate or steel washers are both good solutions if you don't want plain old paper backups.

Experience using smartphones with Gorilla Glass suggests that this is not a 100% way to protect against scratches and other damage. Even if the device is not used daily and as often as a smartphone, the device's screen may still be vulnerable to scratches. Screen protectors can help here.

As a side note, I am the kind of person who does not like when a device like a phone or a watch starts to get scratches. 

I understand, but aesthetics are not as important as the functionality of this device. In the case of hardware wallets, you will be least concerned about the appearance if the device suddenly stops working.

There are many Saturn and Mediamarkt outlets all across Germany. Their shops operate in Austria and Switzerland as well, but Trezor's announcement doesn't mention those countries. They only mentioned Germany. A similar partnership exists with BestBuy in the United States.

Only 2100 pieces are going to be released, but I think there are no internal changes.

If they would offer a super great deal on a safe 5 PLUS 24 word metal keep I would immediately pull the trigger.  e.g. - $185 for both.  Yep, old school still running 24 words.  Don't judge --LOL.

I saw a tweet about it yesterday. It's nothing special if you ask me. If I had to pick between this Freedom edition and the orange-covered Bitcoin limited edition, I would rather buy the latter. It makes a little more sense to me.

Some people love owning rare items. This is targeted at them. The quantities are limited so hurry up and become part of a special and elite club. Those who are into that sort of thing will buy these. Also, Trezor will donate €10 with each sold Freedom Edition wallet to the Trezor Academy to educate people on Bitcoin. So there is that. Buyers are supporting and helping a good cause.

I wonder why Trezor didn't release a device with a large screen so that it would be compatible with a full keyboard (QWERT), just like its competitor (Ledger etc.) did? It's a pain to have to keep pressing buttons to navigate and type passphrases (Ledger NANO line), the same goes for Trezor One and Safe 3 which only have two buttons!

As for the keyboard displayed on the Trezor T or Safe 5 screens, they are less painful than the One and Safe 3 models, as they are alphanumeric and are a little faster to type on than the models mentioned.

We have reached a point where it's no longer possible to use these simple devices with only 2 buttons or alphanumeric keyboards (alphanumeric not so much, as it's a little faster), but nothing beats the QWERT keyboard available on hardware wallets with physical keyboards or large screens.

The simpler the device, the less components there are that can break. The more complex and feature-rich it is (both software and hardware-wise), the more ways something can break. On top of that we have to take into account the price. The more stuff you include, the higher the price of the device will be. Companies have to compromise to find a balance and create a unit that will offer enough features that customers will want to spend money on it. It's not difficult to create a device that has it all and slap a retail price of $450 on it. But then you are going to get feedback saying, I don't care how good it is and what features it has, I am not giving Trezor that much money for a hardware wallet when I can buy one cheaper elsewhere.

Sale of this new Trezor Special Edition now officially stated with only 2,100 serialized units available in total.
I guess there are people who are interested in purchasing this because page crushed with error page and it was not working correctly.
There is no difference with inside components, only external design is unique, and you can load bitcoin-only or universal firmware.

I went to see what that limited edition looks like and it seems that all 2100 units have already been sold - and it seems that the official site has a very high traffic, considering that they limit the number of visitors by putting them on hold before being redirected to the site. I don't see anywhere what the price was - did anyone catch that detail?

Edit: From what I can see on their Reddit, it seems that they have a lot of problems with orders, so it is possible that not everything is sold out, but just suspended.

Everyone has their own vision of what HW should look like, and if you want HW with a real keyboard, I recommend you take a look at the Passport, which is also airgapped HW. The only drawback is that it is a Bitcoin only wallet and costs $200 (US), while in the EU, for example, its price is close to 300 EUR when all costs are added up. I agree that for those who have several HW accounts and who are also protected with a long passphrase, typing the same thing with only two buttons can be a difficult task.

What a mess with this new Trezor release... website had issues as well as payment server that got overloaded and Trezor had to cancel over 1000 unpaid orders!
They really messed up this time, and they even sent this email to many subscribers who never even ordered this newly released Trezor special edition.

The official website shows a price of €169. dkbit98 post just above yours says the units cost $169. Maybe he entered the wrong currency symbol or they really sell them at both €169 and $169, depending on the geo location.
There is a notification on their website that the Freedom Edition is out of stock but it could become available again if some orders get cancelled. Those interested should check back regularly.

@Pmalek, the price is €169 regardless of geolocation or it changes to $169 if you try with a US IP. As I wrote in the previous post, it wasn't that the device was sold out, it was that they had problems with orders and the device couldn't be ordered yesterday - as far as I can see, it's available today.

For many people, that price is still a bit too much, so I don't believe that 2100 units will sell out in the short term - because if we look at the fact that you can still buy a Passport, which was produced in approximately the same number of units, and costs only slightly more than the Trezor.

I believe you, but I am just saying what I saw on the website. I am checking as I am writing this, and yes you are right, the Freedom Edition is available again and people can buy it. At the time I wrote my previous post, that wasn't the case. There was a note just above (or below) the purchase button that said that the device was sold out but it's possible that it would become available soon due to cancelled orders. Trezor knew they messed up yesterday. Now they fixed whatever went wrong and put the Freedom Edition up for sale again.
