Ashigaru, a fork of Samourai Wallet, has now been released

The Ashigaru Open Source Project is happy to announce the release of our mobile wallet which we forked from Samourai. The app is Tor only with an overhauled UI and UX flow for creating / restoring a wallet to prioritize connecting to your own Dojo server.

- Our website is available on both clearnet https://ashigaru.rs/ and as a hidden service but you need to use the Tor Browser to direct download the APK  http://ashigaruprvm4u263aoj6wxnipc4jrhb2avjll4nnk255jkdmj2obqqd.onion/download/. We self host our repo and the code is reproducible.

- As Samourai's infrastructure has an uncertain future, we have launched our own PayNym directory with a fun, new "Pepehash" scheme at https://paynym.rs/ and as a hidden service at  http://paynym25chftmsywv4v2r67agbrr62lcxagsf4tymbzpeeucucy2ivad.onion/

- Online, peer to peer coinjoins are available again to users using the Soroban messaging protocol in app

Based on the first sentence in your post where you say "our" wallet, can we rightly assume that you are part of the Ashigaru team and not just someone who is reporting the news here?
According to information I found on Twitter, the whirlpool functionality is removed for now. Do you have any plans to add it in the foreseeable future?

What makes you say it's not open source wallet? The website clearly state they host their source code on http://ashicodepbnpvslzsl2bz7l2pwrjvajgumgac423pp3y2deprbnzz7id.onion/Ashigaru with open source licenses (GPLv3 and AGPL v3).

That's a nice job, but I would recommend that you guys also have a SimpleX chat account. Because they tend to be very private and other privacy services are using them too.

Like the others said, we need clarification on what kind of coinjoins this wallet is doing. Is it the same as before (whirlpool), or did you guys invent a new one (in that case, show us the whitepaper)?

Semi-Centralised protocol is useful but there is a problem of trusting the people you join in CoinJoin and running the Soroban server only by Ashigaru project will make it difficult to trust the service.
rs domain was used is the company known in Serbia and is there legislation that will allow this?

Some could see this as controversial move, but I think it's a good idea to have more privacy tools for bitcoin.

It would be great if Sparrow could re-enable their whirlpool feature, allowing us to input a server URI where we could add yours. They removed it as soon as Samourai was shut down, which I think was a bit of a rushed decision. Could you tell us more about your whirlpool feature? Is it possible to connect via the mobile application?

In here (Tor link), it says that it's a fork of Samourai, with all commits and changes up to April 26th, 2024. It most certainly have other changes.

If I am understanding the OP correctly, it seems like they implemented my Samourai Improvement Proposal and disabled all of the data collecting functions that were enabled by default in the original Samourai Wallet:

Ahsigaru project is very much alive, but developers probably decided to keep it under the radar, and I don't see them being much active in social media also.
