Exactly as the title says, "What does privacy mean to you?" Of course, a lot of us claim that we are privacy lovers and we support privacy, but to an extent, some people have taken privacy very seriously, which is one thing I commend very much.
 
I have been touring around this forum, and I see a lot of comments from some people regarding how careful they are with their assets (bitcoin); their seed phrases and private keys are so private to them that they do not share them with anyone, but that brought me to this question: Are people really aware of unforeseen circumstances? What if something happens to you? Who will be able to handle your assets when you're no longer there? and the question usually ends up with people speaking of inheritance and not the exact thing I wanted to hear.
For instance, someone said he doesn't trust anyone to tell them his private key or anything close to his assets, but how do you all conceive this message?
 
How can one be in a relationship (wife and children) if you cannot trust anyone in your family to the extent of telling them anything about your investment? This got me worried; hence I decided we should discuss it here. I know weird relationships exist, but is it to this extent?

It's called private key. Not privacy key.. everyone has their own perspective of what privacy means. But in general, privacy means keeping your personal life a secret. It's a very simple thing that we should ensure to abide to when dealing with online space. Privacy in different aspects can mean different things and when it comes to Bitcoin,  it means keeping your asset acquisition unknown to anyone. The issue of letting a loved one know about your BTC holding has been discussed several times here on the forum and like I have already said, life is unpredictable. The reason we hustle and struggle is to fend for those we love. Imagine having so much money and by the end of the day it just rot up somewhere with no one knowing?
That's why it's important to let someone you trust know a little detail of such information. You don't have to give them access to your coins but let them be aware of such things and how to go about them so if life decides to do it's will, you wont leave them stranded..

A person prefers to keep himself safe from discussing the important issues of his life from others for his own interests. He doesn't want to share his private key with anyone including his family or his wife and children. But keeping in mind that man is mortal, at least one person should discuss this personal matter because this tireless work of his life will end with the last breathless sacrifice. For bitcoin investment we should keep some private key secret because it is not good to trust people or people are opportunists. In order to operate our online services in accordance with the essence of Bitcoin investment, you must keep your password confidential. If you want, you can tell your trusted person only the password.

But on the issue of private keys to ur wallet is a one time stuff once its lost that's final. Logically as a wise man, knowing once u lost this key is gone for ever. You have to either write it down in your daily, is not necessarily to trust it with someone, its better you pen it down some. Your spouse or siblings can access in case of emergency. But if you have a trusted spouse or relative you can share it with him. If one say he trust no one then watch him carefully, no one trust him too. You have to be accountable to yourself before you talk of trusting other.  As for me, I'm prepared for ant moment, so I write my private keys and password on my daily, kept in a place my siblings can access.  That's how it should be, some people has lost their hard earn money in their wallet because they did not share it with someone or wrote it down. privacy in the context the OP is using is not about doing things on the net without a third-party interference. it's about keeping your private keys safe and particularly not giving it to anyone while also considering that doing so could lead you to losing your asset in the case of a sudden death. it's something we are all used to most especially if you have some good amount of money you are keeping in the bank where you will be required to bring a next of kin who will take care of your money in the event of your demise. in crypto, there is nothing like a next of kin so it is left for you to make appropriate plan on what will happen to your asset when the unavoidable happens.

To avoid story that touches share ur private keys with a trusted fellow. It will save you tomorrow.

apart from the consideration of death, sharing of private key with a third party should never come to mind even if you are trying to ensure that it doesn't get missing. if you want to keep it safe, there different ways to go about its which mind be to store it in different location such that if anything happens to one that is in a given location, you can still make use of the one that is in a different location.

This responds is contradicting because I am just wondering what who has access to my private keys will be thinking of me. Maybe wishing me death so as to inherit or take over assets. This maybe terrible because the risk is too much as who you trusts can betray you.
On the other side, I wonder if It is then preferable of maybe we die and our assets get stocked and dump making my wallet dormant be the best option? Of course not , he need to find a worthy trusted one to make this reveal but at no course should be be forced in to truats.

Not everyone though boast of not being able to share to family members about their holdings, I think I have come across a thread here about how to set up and enlightened your loved ones about your portfolio just Incase anything happens and no one plans for the unknown to happen and from the multitude of suggestions many users here taught about multi signature account where both parties ought to each have access to the wallet through their seed phrase and many said its best to brief and carry them along about the crypto space because for most of the case where user go to the great beyond and their hard save is lost is because of lack of knowledge towards such asset.

I understand exactly what you mean ,and I also feel the same way. Honestly I don't believe in the type of privacy where I can't
Share important details to people or someone close to me whom I can trust.
I remember quite well as the first son of my family at age 12 my dad called and gave the bank details of every account he owns which after 14 years I'm still aware of . So he knew about unforseen circumstances, so he shared important details with his next of kin and even his wife.
Although he is still alive but I don't see why I shouldn't follow in his footsteps.

Situations  like this has been discused severely in this forum on how to transfer our wealth or heirs to our family mostly by revealing access to our investment .  It is important to tell our love ones about our investment incase serious issues happens to us.  Sometimes it may not be death but a critical illness that may result to not being able to get access to our investment, hence our family will be in good position to do that. I can say it's lack of trust between spouse or family  that cause the reason why people don't expose access to their investment. But however no matter the situation,  it is good we reveal certain important information to our love ones to avoid total lose when we are in critical condition.

Exactly my point! I haven't created this topic out of just for posting sake, I recently had an experience that really touched me and I decided to make a reminder to use regarding our selfishness of keep assets secret.

Someone who just passed away in my hood has over $10k in his wallet but know of his family knew about it not that he didn't trust anyone in his family but the orientation that has been planted in him was never to shaare with anyone instead of never share with someone who you don't trust enough..... Luckily his friend has an access to where he kept some things and through thorough research they found the private key hence helis burial will soon be finalized.

Of course this a great lesson for us at least let someone know how to figure out things about when you're not there. Privacy doesn't have to be being secretive on the wrong places but protect your online informations.

These days lots of things happen and many of them are from people we list expect such from hence peoples privacy approach towards their assets or anything that pertains or belongs to them. It is not bad if one keeps their assets private as it relates to bitcoin and as a matter of fact, the reasons why we have private key and as the name implies private key which means it is private thing to you alone because it holds valuable assets that belongs to you which you ought to be careful with. However, as humans, in as much as we are that private, it is good we have somebody we could trust with information to be a secrete. That people should be your close confidant whom you share things with in common and can not betray your trust. One thing I have always say about such people is that they should be people with conscience and integrity that would think twice before acting.

For someone not to trust any close relation or friend to tell his private key or about his assets is something common these days. And the main reason behind all this is the fear of betrayal; many people you trust end up betraying you on small things, so when it comes to important things like private keys or assets, people used to be very careful about telling others.
 
But in my own perspective, I think you should have someone you trust, at least one family member or maybe a friend, because of the emergence of any problem; for instance, you died, or let's not go that far; you had an accident and lost your memories. How do you want to access your wallet or assets if no one knows about it? That is one of the reasons why you need to have one person you trust with some of your secret.

Correct me if am mistaken, there have been several records of hacking in several Cryptocurrency blockchains but I've never heard that Bitcoin Blockchain got hacked, since the creation of Bitcoin I don't think any money has been stolen from it's blockchain or the blockchain shutting down due to activities of hackers, it is the safest ever recorded and holders of the coin can only lose their assets if they use a non-custodial wallets that's not very secured or looseguard their private keys or seed phrases. Writing it on a piece of paper is okay but not very secured unless the paper is stored in a safe that can't be accessed by rodents and pests, cresting it on a metal plate that can't easily be destroyed is even more Better. Well, the world is becoming cruel cause the heart of human are becoming so evil to the point that people barely trust easily but atleast one must have some in their family they can give such secrets to in case the person is diseased.

I don't think it is right to hide sensitive investment such as that of bitcoin from the family and loved ones but the investor has to be careful on who to trust with such information, if you feel your wife is capable of handling such information without ruining your investment, then go ahead. This is the reason the discussion on the best practices regarding this have been ongoing in the forum for a long time now as many options are still being considered on daily basis. Most of the opinions raised about this point to the direction of keeping the funds in a safe hardware wallet and keeping the access information in a safe place but leaving clues to a trust person like wife or heir.  Using multisignature for a case you want the funds shared upon death, is also another good option so that those that will partake in the sharing will be those that need to sign before accessing the funds.

In Nigeria, the topic of death or dying is a "taboo" and we don't discuss it. But eh, you are right anything fit sup at anytime and e better say make we dey prepared. As for me na my wife wey I trust and anything wey I sabi, she sabi am. And therefore if anything good or bad sup, she dey ready to pick up from where I stop. Yes we should always prioritize safety and security and keep our guard up but still no man is an island and you still have to trust someone but what people don't understand is that when we talk about trust it doesn't always necessarily mean who you are dating (your spouse), yes your romantically partner is in the discussion but there are people who think they were in a stable and good romantical relationship but still end up getting hurt. I will also say your family like your mum, dad, siblings are also to be considered. None is hundred percent secure but I think of you grow up with some and still maintain close contact you should be able to know something about them.

The main point of this whole matter is that no one can be trusted in a financial situation like this, talk more of  revealing secret or access to your fund while you are still OK.  Remember people are still alive while some want them death just because of your asset, and  this include your romantic lover, brother/sister or your relatives, family  and friends.  Even your mother can be tempted to access your fund if they have permission to it.  And you as a person can not have your privacy anymore.  You can't even lie to them when they know your worth. These are the reasons behind why most people chose to be silent about revealing access to the seed phrase or password to their fund.

The only solution to this situation in my own way is to devide your fund into two part, having the little asset in a wallet accessible to your most trusted one, and leaving  the rest huge asset to your lawyer to be in charge of the whole documents concerning your biggest asset incase if a serious issues occurs then it can be brought out according your instruction. To be on a more safer side than risking all in the name of trust since no trust is %100.

Why get married to someone if you can't trust the person? But again, I don't blame this on our generation with the way they care so much about their privacy with their crypto holdings. Look around at the kind of family issues, divorce, and the rest of them going on in the internet, family betraying families as a result of wealth that someone holds, children turning against each other.

But then again, there is someone who should be trusted to discuss such matters with and share your holdings secrets with, even if they don't have access to it, but they will know about it, and then someone else will be entrusted with the private key, which both parties will only be aware of what they hold only when an emergency arises; that way, there could be some safety card at play.
