You will have to make a research about the coin. Check the tokenomics. Probably this might encourage you to invest on a coin. But it is worth knowing that the coins can disappoint you. So using a small amount of money that you can afford to lose is very important. Also if you make huge profit, it is better you sell fast at the right time before the coin will begin to dump and not make it to all-time high anymore. It is worth knowing that you can not know the future of most coins and not good to be too optimistic about the coins.

Altcoins regardless of how promising they are have to be approached with a lot of skepticism and backed up with enough research, do your research about the coin, make sure you identify one possibility of utility adoption of the coin, and also know what the total supply volume of the coins are, avoid any coin that the total volume is not mentioned from the unsent, and also don't consider memecion as a choice for long term investments.

The difference between Tezos and ADA as you asked, is that both coins don't belong to the same team and Tezos to me seems to have utility potential and possibilities more than ADA.

The conclusion is that I will not invest in any coin for the long term Right now, because most of the coins presently are all based on hype and lack future adoption features better to hold Bitcoin or Ethereum and a few of the prominent coins in the crypto market.

No one can tell what the future has for any coin apart from bitcoin. This is because crypto market is unpredictable, and the coin potential is what will determine if it will last or fade away from the market. Nobody knew that bitcoin will grow this far if not those early investors wouldn't sell. One the other hand, there are a lot of coins that came out and crashed later. Altcoin is gambling, don't put your hope on them.

Firstly, a promising coin with great potential is not hard to identify as a matter of fact why should anyone take the risk comparing two different coins. IMO make research, I’m sure you’ve read the few replies concerning research because it’s the only option that can help. Making mention of different project like Tezos and ADA, try checking out the community features yet it can be misleading since a lot of community are built on hype and false words. Don’t risk any chance when dealing with altcoins but, what most people fail to understand in regard to potential you can’t judge except you try out a coin first.

Just stick on their roadmap, then try to pointing out the difference between their roadmap. This will help you to solve your problem. It will take a very long time to explain coz they have different future plans. Tezos with their TezosX and ADA with their fives eras roadmap.

A valid point if we are looking for investment we have right to ask directly because this can bring better idea about all things even as mentioned checking roadmap is also good, but usually things can take changes, or we can misunderstand so having direct talk with team about product is always helpful for any investor.

Roadmap is not really that great of an indicator because they can promise to do awesome stuff in the future, and may end up not doing any of that at all, hence I may see that not as a good thing, doesn't feel like it at all. I can see why that would feel that way, like you would see a great roadmap and say that they are going to do something great and you should get early, but in most cases they do not do what they promise, and that's why it goes low.

I had something like that before, I had a period where I saw something big, like a project that had a huge future, and I held it for two years and they did none of the things they promised they would do and they kept on postponing it because of "troubles" they faced, so I just stopped and sold out. Checked recently, even with this bull run, they are down, and they are very much down compared to where I sold it. Glad I am out.

Many times.

Even with XLM I am figuring that in the long long run the huge piles of XLM that will accumulate as buy-side of all my assets on Stellar eventually those piles will be huge enough that their being idle just sitting as buy sides will long term cause the price of XLM to go upward when those piles tie up enough XLM that there is less and less and less left, decade after decade, in the wild to be traded against fiat...

The fact that fiat itself by design goes ever downward in value will of course help too.

I already said about it on my note, some projects can have a good plan on their road map but might end not archiving what is written on that road map. Just like you, I was also a victim to some projects that I invested on but they did not archive their mission. OP was asking for how he can check for the success of a project (it could be an old project) and I was only making reference for him to check the road map of which ever project he is talking about to confirm if they have actually archived anything that was written on their white paper, but if it's just a new project, he should not rely on the road map.

Thanks for summarizing the answer to OP question, there's no way of accurately knowing the potentials of any altcoins in the future, what you need to do is DYOR. Even that is not enough, to be on the safer side, it's best to buy with the amount that you can afford to loose because your choice altcoin might dip and never recover, meaning that your investment fund will be burnt. As you've noted it's important to sale when there's a pump, no need to wait whether it'll pump further because the opposite might happen. Apart from Bitcoin and a few top altcoins like Ethereum, most new crypto projects are scams so newbies should beware.
