This is ideal, having thought for a long time that part of the retirement fund would be stored in Bitcoin.

But haven't thought this far, yes although currently still HODL for retirement purposes still not done but I will do that when finances are really stable.

But I will do it by doing DCA for pension funds so that it will not be so burdensome but this is a plan that has been in mind for a long time.
But now I'm just thinking about continuing to grow my portfolio.

Bitcoin is one of the biggest investment right now in the world and buying Bitcoin and holding is a very good retirement plan, the reason why I said is a good retirement plan is that Bitcoin investment can't be influenced or controlled by government, any plan or investment you are building against your retirement and can be controlled by the government is a risk, because when the government bring up a policy that is against your investment it will be a problem, someone had a crude oil refining company and a time came when the government brought out a policy that only the government will have the right to refine crude oil and that made private crude refinery company to close, so it will be better you invest in something that the government have no control over it and that is why Bitcoin investment is one of the best options when it comes to having a retirement plan or investment, you don't have anything to fear when you are accumulating and holding Bitcoin because Bitcoin still have a long way to go, and it will keep growing so if you are investing on Bitcoin as a retirement plan investment then you are on the right track.

We do know how Bitcoin has experienced tremendous prowess, over the past few years.
And how it has been like a pinnacle of hope to many, those who invested long ago have witnessed a more than 200% growth and more since it's inception.
My idea is , since one is coming from a country like mine where there's hardly any good retirement plan for those who plan on retiring, then is it really ideal to buy Bitcoin as an asset and hold for Good returns despite it's volatility.

The two years alone has had bitcoin did a 5x on an investment and to me I don’t think there is an assets or even business that you can get such return without having to stress over it, so bitcoin has proven beyond many doubts that even with its volatility issues use to attack it, it can still have its value and brings a good return over the years. So as everyone said above as long it is a long term plan for holding bitcoin is the asset, for retirement you need to have an asset that doesn’t have inflation crisis, isn’t even devaluing against other currencies. Bitcoin ticks this boxes  and as such I agree that it can serve as retirement savings

But is this really an ideal idea?
Yes.

You have to pick.

Save your cash for your retirement and that fund is going to be lessen in purchase power due to inflation.

Whilst in Bitcoin, you take the risk and take that volatility but look at its charts and how it is performing for the last several years of its existence.

Why not start planing now I mean start the investment now not until it’s time for retirement before investing. Most retirement always come with a benefit it’s either you receive this benefit monthly or at once but the amount differ depending on the job. I don’t know much about retirement benefits but with the little knowledge bitcoin investment is a good choice, at the time when bitcoin price is low buying the dip is a good opportunity starting early is more beneficial let’s imagine early investors had retirement plans while investing definitely the benefit will be massive not just retirement plan also bitcoin investment is trustworthy generally.

Imagine you work for 10 years and you can only save $1K per year, you might only have $50K after working for 10 years.
Life is tough and that's still a progress but I get that, it's a slow progress and someone needs to strategize how they can save more money within that decade. But if that's the figure of someone who have worked for a decade and that's only what they've got, no other assets acquired, there must be something wrong with how they spend their money.

Investing is the last step, the first step is making as much as you can whether you want to be professional or businessman.
One might have hard time in having a larger salary or income and I don't find anything wrong that someone who invests with the little that they have if they are eager to do. I don't have that much in the last several years but I've invested in Bitcoin and didn't waited for my career to fluorish before I've invested and that's the best decision I've made. Although I have sold a huge portion even before the bull run of 2021 which I consider as one of my big mistakes.

I can't say no because then I will be wrong, but if I say that Bitcoin alone is enough, I will be wrong again. So, in my opinion, it should be one of the things that you should do for your future. If you can afford it, you should have multiple investments that can be useful for you or your family in the future. Bitcoin, gold, and real estate are three areas that I see as the best choices when it comes to long-term investments because these are the ones that have proven they are worth it over the years.

Bitcoin is more volatile than the other two, so it gives you an edge and can generate higher profits, but the other two, gold and real estate, are traditional investment opportunities that come with more security because they are less volatile and tend to go higher over time instead of losing as much value as Bitcoin does because it has a cyclical movement pattern.

That being said, if one can't afford to get into all these, Bitcoin is probably the best choice also because one can get started with it without having a lot of money, and can keep adding to it over time.

I tried to put BTC into a pension plan and it wouldnt let me do so sadly and price was much lower at that time too.    It would not be best overall just to hold this 1 asset, very basic reasoning would be there is no immediate yield on BTC held plainly as in retirement you need alternate income.

The standard advice is quite boring and possibly wrong which is to accumulate low risk bonds that yield income, possibly also an annuity which is based off your likely years left alive and will pay you no matter what into that old age.  That is seen as the sensible approach, the idea of investing BTC for building a pension would only be accepted in your twenties when risk is allowed to a large amount.

Of course if you self manage a pension you can mostly do as you wish except I was blocked from Bitcoin.  I should have taken MSTR or something related like that but instead its usually gold I use as a proxy vs dollar deflation, again gold has no yield so its often discouraged.   Personally I would advise stepping away from government debt, I dont want to be holding that bag in old age and finding its just a lead weight.

Buying and holding bitcoin is a good retirement plan.

There is warning to it. And it is that you should not put all your eggs in one basket. In addition to having bitcoin as a good retirement plan, diversify. It is not only bitcoin that is a profitable investment for retirement. There are many others. And you should look into the others as well. Speak to a financial advisor. Someone with the knowledge in helping people plan for their retirement.

You too should as well do your homework and know you want to invest in bitcoin as a retirement plan. Maybe you want to do it through investing in bitcoin itself or maybe you are not feeling confident enough and you want to invest in it through bitcoin ETF. These are the questions that doing your own research will answer.

Good day everyone in this wonderful board!
This topic recently came through my mind and I decided to share.
Although it might take time to witness a tremendous return.
But is this really an ideal idea?

no it is not.

100% btc for retirement is an unnecessary risk.

you should try three things  :

gold/silver
btc
cash/bonds.

your ratios are up to you

30% gold silver
35% btc
35% cash/bonds is one possible ratio

If you are under 30

you could do

25% gold silver
50% btc
25% cash bonds.

I don’t like stocks as there are too many to pick from

I will be 68 in two weeks

I am

45% real-estate
40% bonds
13% btc
2% silver
2% doge ltc

that adds up to 102% as I likely have wrong numbers in real estate value.

the ratios are  up to you.

the idea that you should not diversify is wrong

but the ratios are very hard to figure out. good luck.

Hmm, personally I'd find a good retirement plan that's not volatile. It could be good as a part, but probably not the majority if it's for a retirement plan. I'd much rather use it instead as a method to grow my money, and later down the road use the profits in other investments that are more stable, say real estate or something. Returns are high yeah, but it's too risky to involve the majority of your funds imo. If you were young then maybe you can still risk it but if you want to be 100% sure, diversify is always the correct call.

Bitcoin is not the biggest or the best investment, it is the investment with the highest return but also the highest risk when compared to traditional investments.

Investing in bitcoin also has risks and the government can also influence it. They may not be able to steal your bitcoins when you store them in a non-custodial wallet but with policies or bans, it is inevitable that your investment will be dumped. Or you will have a hard time using them if they issue a strict ban. Bitcoin is decentralized in nature but that doesn't mean it is completely free from government oversight.

Even though bitcoin has become popular and many governments are becoming more friendly towards it, there is no guarantee or certainty that they will not reverse that in the future, there are still potential risks when investing in bitcoin. Bitcoin is not the absolute safe asset we think it is, so the best solution is to always put your eggs in multiple baskets.

Buying and holding Bitcoin can be a good retirement plan for you but you must realize the high risk behind that so you will know how to manage the risk. Those who have invested in Bitcoin for a long time have made a big profit when they sell Bitcoin now. But those who starts from now still have a chance to use Bitcoin for their retirement plan.

If you don't have a good retirement plan in your country, Bitcoin can be your solution so you can start to use the DCA method to invest in Bitcoin. You need to try to know if Bitcoin investment is ideal or not for you for some years to see if your retirement plan will work for you. But it is better you have other investments so that will works together with your Bitcoin investment.

Good day everyone in this wonderful board!
This topic recently came through my mind and I decided to share.
Although it might take time to witness a tremendous return.
But is this really an ideal idea?
Yes, it will be of a very good idea to invest in bitcoin to secure the future. Retirement is a resting time for you and it become more toxic when you have nothing to fall back on, investing in btc we be a dream come through deal that can give you a better and a comfortable life you desire.

Agreed, I have no plans to retire yet because I think it is still too early and there are still more important things to do. But if I had to plan for retirement, I would also choose stable assets and say no to volatile and risky assets.

I am not against people using bitcoin to plan their retirement because that is their choice. But I think that's a bit risky because if something unexpected happens to bitcoin, what are we going to do? So my plan is to take risks while young and leverage volatile assets like bitcoin or crypto to grow my wealth. And I will use that money to invest in stable assets like gold and real estate to prepare for old age instead of holding bitcoin until then.

I don't know how old OP is but I guess most of us are still young so it's too early to talk about retirement plans. So we should focus on building our career and wealth because once we achieve wealth, retirement planning will no longer be a concern. Don't think about planning for retirement too early when our current life still has many things to worry about and many things to accomplish.

that adds up to 102% as I likely have wrong numbers in real estate value.

the ratios are  up to you.

the idea that you should not diversify is wrong

but the ratios are very hard to figure out. good luck.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is a risky thing, it's better to spread them out or in other words one must have a diversified portfolio. The retirement age in my country is 60 years and at that time person need readily cash for healthcare, for children who are grown up and need higher education in universities, some need cash for construction of house etc. Bitcoin is for long term and there are ups and down in Bitcoin price, bear season may last for months. For me diversified portfolio includes following sectors:

Btc
Real Estate
National Saving certificate (to have a fix monthly income).

We don't know what will happen with Bitcoin after 10,20 or 30 years. BTC might hit unprecedented price levels or it might decline.
The best investment plan for retirement would be to just diversify your portfolio and keep adding more and more funds to buy more assets.
Your portfolio must contain various different assets, that have different volatility and different price patterns(stocks, bonds, crypto, commodities, etc.). Index funds might also be a good option. You probably know the saying "never put all eggs in one basket".
Relying on only one financial asset(especially one, that has a volatile price) seems pretty risky and unstable.

My thoughts exactly. It is good to have some investment in BTC but I would avoid to invest everything in Bitcoin. BTC performed well in last few years but we don't know what to expect long term. Maybe the algorithm that is base of BTC will become compromised and the value of BTC could easily come to zero in that case.

I would spread investment between BTC, precious metals, pension  funds, stocks, maybe real estate to rent it out.

Also we should factor in the inflation too. It could easily be the case that 1 dollar now will be less valued then 1 dollar in future.

Thanks to Satoshi, the creator of Bitcoin, his innovation has changed the naretive of investments for retirement plans. With the reputation that Bitcoin has gained so far, I can boldly say that it is one of the best long term investments for retirement. Although I personally will not put all my eggs in one basket so I like to diversify my capital into more than one investment, if something happens to one I can still rely on another one to survive. Many reputable investments requires a lot of money to start but Bitcoin which is among them don't require a lot of money to start, you can DCA according to your income.

Depends on the situation that might occur in future.

So much really better not to put everything and just save Bitcoin for retirement and never forget to have spare money for emergency matters so that if Bitcoin for retirement purposes fail you have something to get and you will not struggle on that stage in life. But also if Bitcoin will succeed and hit new incredible high then you have some balance stake and could take profit in future especially when you need funds during the days when you cannot work anymore.
