At some point, Trump through his statements said several things related to Mexico and Canada. First, he tried to annex Canada by saying that the country should be the 51st US state because of the economic impact and the billions of dollars they spend to protect it. And then, he said that Mexico is a dangerous country, and run by a cartel, and he should change the name "Gulf of Mexico" to "Gulf of America". And through his policy, Trump will impose a new tariff on Canada-Mexico of 25%. These Trump statements have caused new polemics and international concerns because the statement is quite sensitive and could have implications for bad trade relations in North America. Especially on the new 25% tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, this will have a direct impact on the USMCA, because the purpose of the USMCA itself is to reduce trade and investment barriers between the three countries, but the new tariff will hinder the import of goods from Canada and Mexico to America, and may cause a tariff war in North America. This will continue to disrupt the supply chain and it will impact major industries such as manufacturing, automotive, and consumer goods. The tension in North America due to Trump's statement could change the direction of the economy in North America, and cause the region to experience an economic slowdown if the three countries do not find common ground on some of their main problems. And this could be worse if Trump does not want to negotiate and only thinks about protecting the US economy. What do you think, does Trump's statement really have bad implications for the North American economy? source: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/donald-trump-mexico-vice-versa/story?id=41767704https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/latest-news-headlines/new-tariffs-on-canada-mexico-could-add-pressure-to-us-business-consumer-costs-86774231

25% tariff is fucking massive, and it will trigger everything to go up.
I remember Canada is also one of top export for Iron and Steel to US. It means it will increase the price of the building materials there. We can expect the snowball effect if it really happens.
MAGAs are not gonna have affordable housing if the building materials are getting more expensive caused by 25% tariff from trump.
He's on his first step to fuck the world.

Imposing a 25% tariff over all goods is simply stupid. Oil, gas and raw materials(like iron and steel) should have a way lower tariff. The higher tariff would most likely be imposed over consumer goods. Canada and Mexico would most likely will suffer a recession, if such 25% tariff gets imposed. The US economy is big enough to survive this, but such tariffs might cause inflation in the USA. Maybe Trump will use those tariff proposals as a threat in future negotiations. He might give up on that idea, if he gets what he wants in another way.

What do you think, does Trump's statement really have bad implications for the North American economy?
Not only with the North American economy, I think with economic policies with the goal of "making America great again" and always putting the economic interests of the United States first , the world economy will once again be shaken and everything will be turned upside down under his term . Many people believe that with Trump's election , he will make the world a better place and the world economy will enter a new phase of development. But if they look back at what Trump did in his first term and the policies he mentioned during the campaign. He has no intention of making the world great again, all he wants is to make America great again . And to do that, there is no better way than to leverage the available power of the United States in the international arena to suppress and attack any country , rival or close ally of the United States. He does not like war and the world will be peaceful under his tenure but he likes economic and trade wars because that is his forte, people have overlooked that .

Donald Trump gave conditions to avoid the high tariff. They should simply partner with the US Border Guides and curb the influx of these illegal immigrants. Anyway, imposing such trade restrictions on Mexico and Canada will also harm the US economy.

I think Trump is psycho person and he didn't think before talking about Canada and Mexico. That is very bad statement for the North America Economy and he should take action and he should meet with the agents and trade will be successful and without this ,North America will lose many things. I don't understand why Trump is president of the USA because he is not right person for the economy of America and America will go down in the time of Trump and we will see in the future, USA economy will fall.He is a successful business but it doesn't mean he will be successful politician . He should take steps for the benefits of country but he is taking making wrong decisions which will affect the economy of country.

-cut- What do you think, does Trump's statement really have bad implications for the North American economy? -cut-
Canadian companies will just charge more and retailers and consumers will pay that in USA. If they get same product relatively cheaper from somewhere else (like china), they will buy it from there, because most likely that will stay as cheapest option, even with high tariffs. In the end, consumers will pay for tariffs. But this is what they voted for, so i guess they want to pay more. Even when the production is moved to US (And infra for that will take time to build), it will most likely still cost more, as they are kicking all the illegals doing the cheap work.

If you look at the world with all the players in it. North America: Includes Canada, the United States, and Mexico. Central America: Includes Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Plus Greenland all united into 1 country would be awesomely powerfull. Is it achievable ? I do not think it can be done. The cultural differences along with language differences would make that unification pretty much impossible. BTW Teddy Roosevelt back in the late 1890's called for it. If it ever was going to happen it would have happened in the mid 1800's instead of the USA civil war. I think it is typical Trumpeter loud talker that he his. After all like me he is a Native New Yorker and he knows the score by now. my apologies to Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell along with Frank Valli as it is a good song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TbJz_5D3s4remix by odyssey is the well known hit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA7RgCib8kE

Not all economy impacts is accommodating for the masses which i don't think if Trump was solicitating for the well being of the masses with the respective regions. So the effect of the increase of tariff on the productive infrastructures may not be a major challenge for Canada to adhere but what matters is the purchase and supplies rates of those products which we know Canadians are specialized on. Then it prices would be highily expensive and likely not going to be affordable as before due to the increase of tariff. So in accordance to what the Op has asked based on the Trumps speech, if this is implemented I think it'd caused a setback to the Canadian economy because there wouldn't be an inflows of purchase and supplies to other countries like the US has always been a core patronage of them. So I think there's a monopoly economy polices on this move.

It is stupid to poke the (Canadian) bear. Canada one of USA's biggest allies, and they share the largest un-patrolled land border in the world. And most Canadians would probably vote for liberals. Lol With Mexico I see the problem that is occurring here, there are too many drugs and human trafficking going through the southern border, but the solution is not to annex Mexico. Do you really want to deal with all those people in your own country?

25% tariff is fucking massive, and it will trigger everything to go up.
I remember Canada is also one of top export for Iron and Steel to US. It means it will increase the price of the building materials there. We can expect the snowball effect if it really happens.
MAGAs are not gonna have affordable housing if the building materials are getting more expensive caused by 25% tariff from trump.
He's on his first step to fuck the world.
That’s the point. If the American business owners don’t move their manufacturing to their home country, they won’t be selling any goods to the US. If 25% tariff doesn’t convince them, Trump will increase it even more. At some point, they will move their factories to the US because it will be a better decision financially. At least that’s the idea. We will see if it will work…

Don't expect him to be truly faithful to all his promises and threats. We are used to Trump's fantasy in all his statements and positions that seem funny and strange at times, and have no explanation other than to arouse public interest in him. Imagine that he wants to annex Canada, the Gulf of Mexico, the Panama Canal and Greenland during his election term. Is this really how American policy is run? Do the Pentagon's foreign policy officials know about these plans? No wonder all these Trump statements did not receive any significant official reactions from the international community because everyone knows that they are complete nonsense.

Putting tariffs on things that come across the border isn't all. It tests how well economies are really connected under pressure. In the car industry, for example, a just-in-time supply chain zigzags across North America. There is a 25% barrier that could stop that zigzag in its tracks, which would raise both production costs and buyer prices. It's possible, though, that some companies will speed up technology or invest in local manufacturing to balance out the risks of tariffs. That could help factories use more modern technology or even create new jobs.
I am thinking how this tension could push Canada and Mexico to broaden their trade partnerships, possibly by building stronger ties with the EU or even smaller Latin American countries. Over time, that might make their long-term goals less focused on the U.S. Using a short-term threat could help us win political points, but it also has the potential to make our neighbors look elsewhere. However, this fight could lead to a new agreement with clearer, more up-to-date rules for all three countries. What do you think about how fast that could happen?

Some of his promises will need verification or the backing of Congress. Although Republicans have a slight majority in Congress, Trump's proposals might always get a smooth passage in the Federal Legislative arm. I will say that he is overrating himself and might not have the power to influence Congress. An example is his inability to push Republicans in the House to ditch Biden's budget proposal and accept his new plan to fund operations and suspend the debt ceiling.

I will say that he is overrating himself and might not have the power to influence Congress. An example is his inability to push Republicans in the House to ditch Biden's budget proposal and accept his new plan to fund operations and suspend the debt ceiling. I think this is what explains why a large percentage of Republicans do not want Trump and stand against his policies, and how Trump acts according to his mood and not according to a planning vision within his party's vision. Republicans support Trump against the Democrats and not because they really agree with all his views. Trump returned to power because of Biden's mismanagement and the Democrats' inability to present a suitable candidate. Have you heard any Republicans declare their support for Trump's colonial plans against neighboring countries? Or are any of the congressional committees or Pentagon rooms discussing these projects? It would be better for him to devote his valuable time to rebuilding the burning Florida instead of wasting more resources on crazy plans.

Trump oftentimes exaggerates things, makes impassioned pronouncements, issues spur-of-the-moment statements, and so on but I'm sure it isn't like that when it comes to crafting and eventually implementing official policies and decisions that have drastic implications.
For now, he seems to be speaking as if Canada and Mexico don't have their own cards to play. They, too, have their leverage. The US is also dependent on them in certain things.
I'm sure there will be compromises and more feasible arrangements. Otherwise, it's certainly the people who will suffer. After all, tariff costs could easily be passed on to consumers.

Trump's statements about annexing Canada, the Gulf of Mexico, the Panama Canal, and Greenland may sound absurd and a little silly to many of us. But politically, he was not joking and the real purpose of those statements was to make a strong statement affirming the position of the United States on the international stage. Trump's allies understand his intentions and support his stance, not that no one cares about his statements as you might think. According to RT: Congressman Ogles has proposed a bill and received support from many Republican congressmen to allow the Washington administration to initiate negotiations to buy Greenland. According to multiple sources, this bill is awaiting consideration by Congress, but is likely to pass because it would benefit the US economy and defense. Not stopping there, some Republican congressmen are also planning to negotiate the purchase of the Panama Canal... Sometimes I also feel his statements seem strange and silly but if we dig deeper into those statements, most of them have hidden meanings, not all are random and impulsive. https://www.axios.com/2025/01/13/trump-buy-greenland-house-republican-bill

The actions of this convicted felon will push the world toward more dedollarisation and solidification of the New World Order, something that was already happening and even the genocide criminal Blinken recently confessed when he said something along the lines of US is no longer the unipolar power.
But Trump's radical statements and possible actions to match those statements will hasten that move across the globe. Not to mention that it has the potential of increasing the inflation and recession inside the colony itself like it did in his past presidency. Another outcome of all this is more isolation of USA as he will keep pushing everyone away by showing the true faces of the US regime as a colonizing regime.

Look at it as a military decision.
USA HAS WASTED countless dollars all-round the world playing we are the good guy cops.
SO if they spend a few trillion to conquer Canada and Greenland along with Mexico and central America would it be a smart descison?
Hell no.
How could he pull this off?
Hmm abandon Europe to Russia and Asia to China?
Won't work. As France and England have Nukes
And Pakistan along with India Have nukes.
So Russia and China don't get what they want and would feed weapons to Mexico and Canada and Greenland.
But he may say this is when he only wants Greenland and Panama.
He may be able to get them into USA control.
For the record the Trumpeter can really blow his horn. LETS SEE HOW BIG HIS BAND OF FOLLOWERS REALLY ARE.

In my opinion, Donald Trump is a protectionist. He is convinced that the global economy is a zero-sum game and one country can only win at the expense of other countries.
Each person makes management decisions based on their previous experience. Donald Trump is a former businessman, so this approach is close to him.
New tariffs and duties on Mexico and Canada will lead to the fact that the economic situation in these countries will worsen. At the same time, our entire planet is our only and common home for all. Donald Trump's idea that the well-being of the United States can be improved at the expense of other countries is largely utopian.
Ultimately, we can build a world that will be much less safe and less comfortable than the one that was before. Including for the United States. In any case, the next few years will be characterized by increasing chaos and uncertainty.
