Recovering an old scam transaction

Years ago, I bought one bitcoin exactly and stored it in my electrum wallet.

One day however, I decided to change wallets and I was scammed because that wallet was only available on mobile devices and I had sent it to a windows wallet that never existed officially.

Seeing now how valuable bitcoin has become, I am feeling a bit desperate to recover the lost bitcoin even though I am sure the chances are slim to none existent.

Is there anything that can be done in my case? At the time I suffered the loss and was very mad about it but now it feels even worse than it did as I find myself in need of cash.

Bitcoin transactions are irreversible.

You can't do anything before and can't do anything now, if you manage to identify the person who scammed you then can take legal action to recover it. My opinion, it's lost forever so accept it and try not to repeat the same mistake ever again.

That's the biggest issue with Bitcoin. The fact that you can so easily get scammed, loose you wallet or your private keys makes it a pain to deal with.

I know I won't ever make the same mistake but I doubt I will ever get back into it.

Even if the hacker sent the money to an exchange at the time, it could be a nonKYC exchange. The transaction was since 2017. He should just forgot about the money.

It is not bitcoin that makes someone to easily get scam, it is that person himself that is gullible to attackers. There are people that are also scammed with fiat.

If you lose your fiat currency or any asset at all to scammers, you have to get the scammer and force them to return it to you, either through the authorities or any other means. So how is this an issue that is common with BTC, when you lost your money to scammers due to your mistake.

The only difference with BTC is that you are your own bank and you have to protect your funds yourself, but it is not so difficult to do that. However if you cannot do that, it may be better to choose fiat only.

If you consider it as negative then Bitcoin may not be the suitable for you but if you're ignorant about the decentralisation then you will understand why it's important for Bitcoin to operate in that way. You will be in the same situation even if you lost your fiat to any of these scammers, they just take the money and launder and hide the traces as soon as possible. So it's our responsibility to know and tackle these kind of people in our life.

Sorry for your loss, buddy. But the problem isn't with BTC. You could have been scammed with fiat also, that's possible and it's nothing new. Anyway, as the owner, it was your job to secure everything properly (seeds, keys, etc.). You should have been more careful when you changed the wallet. Once it's sent, there is no going back. Once I lost a seed of an account that had some valuable altcoins which I earned from airdrop. Tried finding the seeds everywhere but never found them. Gone forever. The coins are still there, probably pumped a couple thousand bucks. I regret losing it now. I don't blame anyone, I blame myself for being ignorant.

Bitcoin is designed to be electronic cash. If you lose your wallet with cash, you lose your money.

If you follow the on-chain trail, it looks like OP's money was mixed.

You should always verify that the software you are downloading is legitimate, especially when you intend on keeping such a large amount of money on there. The fake wallet you downloaded sent your funds to ChipMixer.

i'm sure this isn't what you want to hear, but there is zero chance you will ever recover the bitcoin you lost, it's gone.

These types of issues happened to so many people a few months ago; that's why it is very important for anyone who stored a Bitcoin or any coin in any wallet to check on the wallet from time to time so that you will definitely know if the scammers want to get access to your wallet. We all know that the scammers are always finding new ways to create scams to scam people easily without the owners consent.

But as this has happened to you now Mate, you will take this as a lesson against next time. Whenever you store a coin in any of your wallets, you will try to store your private key in cool places that nobody can be able to get access to except you yourself, because it will be very difficult for you to recover your Bitcoin back easily.

You can't "check" a wallet to see if scammers "want" to access is. If they access it, your money is gone. If you take keys out of cold storage just to check on them, you're increasing the risk of compromising them. One way or another, "checking" isn't going to do any good.

When bitcoin in your wallet was moved in a transaction that was confirmed by Bitcoin miners, your bitcoin gone forever. You can not revert Bitcoin blockchain to get your bitcoin back. Nobody can roll back Bitcoin blockchain, and some years ago after Binance exchange was hacked, their CEO Changpeng Zao tweeted his idea to roll back Bitcoin blockchain to cover their exchange loss.

That tweet received mass critics from community, but even if community support that idea, it's impossible to do.
How many Bitcoin confirmations is enough?
1 confirmation is enough for you to lose your bitcoin forever. In your case, it is far more than 1 confirmation, so no chance.

You can't "check" a wallet to see if scammers "want" to access is. If they access it, your money is gone. If you take keys out of cold storage just to check on them, you're increasing the risk of compromising them. One way or another, "checking" isn't going to do any good.

Scammers, hackers only wait for chance to access the wallet with bitcoin inside and move it immediately. They can use bot to do this task as they don't want to miss any chance to steal bitcoin from victims.

Loss is part of life, at least it's just money and not something more important.

Maybe I should start a gofundme page to recover my loss  .

Anyway, I learned the lesson the hard way. If I were to ever invest in Bitcoin again, I would never try switching wallets.
