Will it be possible to use your favorite crypto to buy soda or snacks from a vending machine? I haven't seen a real world example of this, but it would be cool to have such a thing. This would only work on coins with large network capacity (low fees and fast confirmations), though. I think Solana, Tron, Litecoin, and Dogecoin would be the ideal payment methods for vending machines.

I think so. There’s already some vending machine that accept payment via tap payment which means crypto cards might be acceptable in the future once vending machine becomes fully modernized.

I’m not updated whether they are accepting it until now but idea is really possible.

honestly this kind of thing just few step away from happening, there has been so many payment gateway utilizing stablecoin in a fast network, with just qr code scan you already paid the invoice, this basically solved people's complain about volatility, and these payment gateway also support multiple networks, this can definitely be implemented or integrated in many vending machine but nobody seems to be interested in doing it because maybe it's too niche but I can see it happening in the future.

for sure the technology is already good enough for this kind of thing, like for example using solana, it requires only seconds for a tx to be confirmed, so it's viable.

I see and read specifically for doge fans maybe this machine DogeVend (Dogecoin Vending Machine) has started to be used and payment is also easy just like we shop at a supermarket with the option to pay using a barcode of course the doge coins that will be connected are not fiat and I think it is quite helpful in providing another payment option for users who have crypto currency assets in particular.

Why you doubt it? Everything is possible now, years ago we didn't think that Bitcoin ATM is possible, but now we have thousands of it around the world. So I will never question that there could be some minds that are thinking of implementing a Bitcoin vending machine, or any crypto for that matter.

And not just that, maybe it will be like we can choose what altcoins we can used to buy soda. So let's see, it's just a matter of time before we can see this in the future. Remember that the market is evolving as we goes by.

With what happened in the last ten years in the cryptocurrency industry, anything is possible; we never know if one company is creating a concept about crypto vending machines; if there's a demand, there will be manufacturers who will be willing to take the risks to create something like this.
I'll support something like this and its likely to start on countries where crypto adoption and technology flourish.

The transaction fee I think would be the problem with this one, I would only buy using crypto if I buy a lot of groceries including the sodas. $1 for a fee is already huge.

Stablecoin would be more appropriate for buying on off line stores but then they would need to have less transaction fee for this. If there is that taproot with USDT on it, it will be possible already with the use of our phones. We could just scan a code to pay.

I think they are very plausible. I've seen these vending machines like the ones in Japan that you can choose which payment method you'll use, cash or cash card or bank card. So, with that means, it's possible that we'll see something like this in the future and those that have crypto cards can use theirs and it will be with ease through those wallets that can use to scan QR codes.

Why do you think transaction fees would be a problem?  There are networks and cryptocurrencies with negligible to almost zero transaction fees, and the OP has already mentioned some. but even with Bitcoin there are options through layer 2 solutions.

Well I do think it will be possible to use crypto to buy things like sodas at the vending machines. Now we can use credit cards so I do not see why they will not make it so we can use crypto for it.

But me I would not do it. I do not like to spend my crypto only if I must sell it for fiat. And if there is a problem with the vending machine who is going to help us make our crypto back. I like this idea but for me I am not going to ever do that.

I don't think its a remote possibility. If there is demand and market, a company whose specialty is creating a vending machine will heed the call.
We have a cryptocurrency ATM; why not a crypto vending machine? There are a lot of vending machines in malls and gaming hubs. and casinos, if there are people who transact cryptocurrency on these places, then there will be demand for crypto vending machines

Nothing is impossible because we don't know for sure what will happen in the future and it can be said because this technology or crypto is still relatively new in my opinion and I assume this is the same as when the internet first existed and maybe many people will feel pessimistic about the negative things from the internet that cannot be predicted in the future. But what we often see happens when everyone enjoys the presence of the internet which has many functions that continue to develop and adapt to technology that continues to develop and I think crypto will also be like this in the future and it's just a matter of time and it also takes a long time until everything is perfect and finds solutions to all the obstacles that occur to create a crypto payment machine that can function properly.

Why bother paying with stablecoins at a vending machine? Isn't that the same as paying with cash or credit/debit card? Paying with crypto is better, imo. You'll get better privacy and freedom. Bitcoin's Lightning Network, Solana, or ETH's L2 networks (Arbitrum, Optimism, Base) might become the payment methods of choice for vending machines.

I'd see this taking off in crypto-friendly countries such as the UAE, Hong Kong, and El Salvador. Maybe even the US will join the game. Can't wait for this to become a reality soon. I'm so anxious.

Perhaps refrigerator manufacturers will start producing these machines in the future as soon as encryption becomes accepted in several countries. So we wouldn’t be surprised if in the future we come across machines that accept Bitcoin or altcoins. The idea is clear and great. We will wait for it to happen and enjoy cold drinks in the summer.

To me, the "biggest hurdle" would be market price volatility. That's a huge deal breaker for many businesses. Especially when a sudden decline in market prices could take out most (if not all) of the profits generated in Fiat terms. There needs to be a system where the user pays in a coin of his choice, and then gets automatically converted into Fiat (right into the vending machine owner's bank account). However, this would require a centralized payment processor/gateway (middleman) such as BitPay or CoinPayments (which greatly defeats the whole purpose of crypto).

At least, the idea is there. Making it a reality is another story. If Bitcoin ATMs are a reality, anything's possible.

I've never seen it either and it seems like this is very difficult to make happen. buying soda or snacks with bitcoin or popular crypto such as ETH or BNB is very difficult to realize because the prices fluctuate and there are still few people who know about crypto. buying things with your favorite crypto is much more difficult because it is likely that everyone's favorite crypto is different.

There can be such machines, because crypto is a payment method like any other. Probably it just hasn't been implemented yet in large scale, because crypto adoption is too low worldwide from a practical usage point of view. Crypto is mainly used for speculative and investment purposes, while the daily currency usage remains in second plan.

To think about crypto vending machines should pass first through the Bitcoin vending machines stage, as it's the main crypto in the world, and therefore the most likely one to become available first for the public. At big urban centers, I think this experience should be relatively successful, while at smaller regions the idea is likely to be a fiasco if implemented.
