With fears of US hegemony collapsing soon, many are wondering which will become the world's biggest superpower. Currently, China is the second-largest economy in the world. It has been advancing rapidly, especially in the areas of AI, and EVs (Electric Vehicles). Companies like Deepseek and BYD are becoming a "force to reckon with".

This makes me wonder if soon China will surpass the US as the world's largest economy? If not, why? What do you think will happen if China reigns supreme in the future? Will it become the leading force of the New World Order?

It's amazing that it hasn't happened a long time ago if you think about it. There are approx. 1 billion people in China compared to the roughly 350 million in America, yet for decades they were so far behind in development. China has industrialised their economy a huge amount in the last 30 years and this has allowed them to catch up, by doing all the jobs that were exported from elsewhere for cheaper. They have one thorn that has both helped them grow but will also stifle their full potential in future - they have a centralised form of government. That means people are less innovative and willing to take risks, because there can be wide ranging repercussions for failure - beyond what you see in other countries and more akin to North Korean oppression. There is also lots more self censorship which limits expression that is key for growth.

Besides, we know very well, no matter how Chinese official channels try to present the story, the reality is that the Chinese economy depends on Western technology, Western investment and Western consumer markets. As much as China would like to, without, for example, the European market, it will never make a profit on the African and/or Asian market commensurate with that of the EU. Third world countries do not demand expensive and high quality goods with high added value like the richer European population. Plus huge subsidies from the “state pocket” cannot last forever either, e.g. when the USA loses its markets to the EU and other developed countries. Therefore, the “world factory” will remain, but it is not the equivalent of the world's largest and strongest economy.

Don't say they are dependent, they are cooperating with each other and both sides benefit. In commerce, where there is demand, there will be supply and vice versa. Also, not Europe, China is the second largest consumer market in the world and that is why CEOs of Apple or Meta...have to give in every time the Chinese government tightens their products. The Chinese market contributes significantly to the revenue of any technology product from the US.

How dependent is China on EU technology? When they can create their own powerful empires like Huawei, Xiaomi...making the US becomes wary and issues sanctions instead of fair competition. Meanwhile, what does the EU have or is it completely dependent on the United States? Social network Tiktok, Deepseek application...is that European technology?
China's potential to surpass the United States is huge and that is why the United States is constantly looking for ways to contain China's growth and expansion in the international arena.

Let's look at reality, shall we?
1. The creation of a large, high-tech “world factory” was based on Western investment and Western technology. This is a fact.
2. For example, the Xiaomi mentioned by you - produced.... And let's guess where? No, not in China ! But at the facilities of India's Westron, Taiwan's Foxconn, Inventec and Wintech....
Can you tell meabout Huawei, what's at the heart of it?

4. investment flows from the western world to China have begun to decrease, which is a problem for China itself. now it is necessary to print more money to support its producers and look for new markets. Which, as I said, are not as profitable as the US and EU markets.

With the way they are destroying their big buildings and making bad real estate decisions, I am not so sure if they will have enough finances to build their nation to where they want to build. They may make a mistake and there is no reason to trust them to use their money for good of the people.

They rather spend the money on large big things, to show the world they are building large big things, to make it look like they are a powerhouse. Which they are, they are not some small nation of course, but if you really want to be the richest nation, you should have citizens who can live decently, not 80 story buildings and 100 of them side by side, that is not proof you are richer. So they need to learn to spend their income at the right place.

I think china and usa will be equal and dollar is not going anywhere and brics don't work the way everybody think it would brics biggest problem is russia wich economy only looks good in short term few years but what comes after ? And who will take russian trade defeciet?

If China has a way to take over in the EU's market and economy, then that's a big boom for them. But with what I see on them, they're on Africa and building infrastructures there and giving loans to the countries they're allied with.

That's the typical Chinese debt trap that are being done there but if they're able to develop those countries, they're for sure going to have an advantage into the minerals that can be dug there.

One main reason why Chinese economy has grown up to level of US is because of their policy to avoid wars and conflicts. China is not spending much of his budget in fighting wars with other countries rather on building domestic infrastructure and industrialisation. In 2019, Jimmy Carter had a phone call with the then US President Donald Trump in which he "emphasised that China’s avoidance of wars had allowed it to focus on economic development, positioning it to surpass America". It's time for US to avoid conflicts so that focus should be on economic growth and US government know this.

The goal of the trade war, restricting technology exports, chips or imposing sanctions...everything the United States is doing is to contain China's development. And to be fair, China is actually at a disadvantage when it comes to confronting the United States. So, for now and in the near future, China cannot surpass the US but in the future, it will be interesting to watch because China is also trying to break free from the grip of the US.

A new world order is gradually taking shape, and this is not just a confrontation between the United States and China but a confrontation between NATO, the G7 vs BRICS. China is not as perfect as the United States economically and militarily, but the combination of Russia and China is perfect. Again, this sounds good in theory, but in reality, there are fears that the two major powers (Russia and China) will exploit the alliance to impose their hegemony over their allies, just as the United States did with NATO and, before that, the Soviet Union with the Warsaw Pact.

The aim of BRICS is to compete with the US and the EU, and they are trying to attract more countries to their side to create a real power. If they become dictatorial like the US and the EU, it will not benefit them, those countries will leave them and turn to the US. They are certainly aware of this and the reason they created BRCIS is because they are not happy with what the US is doing, so there is no reason for them to turn themselves into a second US.

In general, it will be difficult to avoid cases of bullying, abuse of power...but with a multipolar world, with more choices, those things will gradually disappear.

Isn’t it a good thing if China do their best to develop more their economy, and it will boost the competition for other countries as well to make the world even better, but not to the point where some government are ready go attack and create a negative impact on other countries, just to destroy their competitors. I cannot take any side between China or USA but both countries indeed they served the world with developed technology, fought illnesses and created more comfortable lives for the humanity.
I believe it’s time for them to be in one side, find solution to other issues, for instance, how to reduce the pollution due to many factors and industries, clean air and water.

china's opportunity to become the country with the largest economy in the world is very large. they have advanced industries, brands that are growing rapidly globally, competent human resources, and more than 1.4 billion people. these are important factors that can make them the country with the largest economic resources in the world.

they are also planning to expand globally, such as major investments in many developing countries globally, and increasing trade relations, and creating a wider economic network. their approach is better and more empowering for their partner countries compared to america-- which currently seems like a superpower that only dictates other countries and threatens them if they do not comply with what they want.

Sadly its the opposite of amazing, history was by a long way not my best subject but I didnt choose to take it for academic purposes but because I just didnt know much and China is massive as you say.   From the little I do know, its quite terrible how many people have died and how much effort was put into restraining the amazing capabilities of the Chinese people out of fear it seems like because an educated population is or was feared by those in charge by mere force.

Before, they have one-child policy, now, they realized they need more people so they want more population. Definitely, they are already considered as one of the top economies in the world. But is it really that vital to know which country is on the top or not? China has their own way of managing its people, and how they embark their economy. Whereas, others have their own economic agenda. So whether China is leading or not, at the end of the day, we are all living in one planet and so we need to make sure that whatever we are doins is that we are at least contributing to the preservation or conservation of our planet one way or another.

Well, China is increasingly advancing its plans to become "self-sufficient". By adopting the latest technologies before everyone else, it can get a huge advantage (a headstart) in the game. There's always a way to get around sanctions. If Russia did it, so can China. The US must keep in mind that China is not some country to mess up with. It's the world's second-largest economy. So anything affecting China (sanctions, trade wars, etc) will affect other countries as well.

If the US collapses in the future, it's very likely China will take the reigns as the world's leading superpower. Both in terms of military might and economic power. Assuming the EU doesn't become stronger, ofc. The Russo-Ukraine crisis might strengthen the EU in the long run. For what I know, all cards are on the table. We're living in uncertain times, so anything's possible.
