Should we advocate for more merit source

If you check the various local board analysis in terms of number of active users, number of posts per month and merit per post with other parameters, you will know that we need more merit sources. For now we have only one merit source who is also the moderator of our board, I don't think the merit allocated to him will be enough to serve our local board that is one of the busiest local board in the forum.

And some of our legendary and hero members that applied for merit source, have what it takes to assist the only merit source we have in the local board to boost the quality posts which is the priority of every local board in this forum.

Even though they  increase the merit allocated to our only merit source, it will not be enough in the local board because the number of users in the local board has increased higher.

We need more merit sources. I understand that it doesn't happen automatically because Charles-Tim, Mia Chloe, SmartGold had applied. I think someone like Charles should visit his application again which he dropped last year or so.

On the other hand, everyone should be patient. It will come but while we are waiting, we should strive to make the local board on of the best and shouldn't forget to continue to be good representatives of the local board because in my estimation, it is part of the things that is considered before our request is granted.

Considering the Nigerian local board as one of the most active boards in the forum, our merit allocation or merit source is not up to the supposed requirement for meriting quality post. Though not every quality post are to be merited but ratio of unmerited quality post in the much compared to other times. To be honest things were running a lot much smother when our moderator was newly given the position as a merit source, and I though the local board will only get better, I wonder how we ended up getting to this point of so many quality unmerited posts. Just like Odohu said maybe what we need is actually another merit source to help keep quality posts merited.  The issue of unmerited quality post isn't limited to local boards alone, the forum at large is gaining more traffic so maybe Theymos needs to consider accepting some few more merit source in the forum and local boards with more activities, so as to encourage quality posts.

How about reporting other people's post in a way no one should be allowed to report their own posts? Like 5 good reports can earn 1 merit for the 5 good reports. The report post per each person does not also necessarily have to be ones. It can be reported multiple times with the member quoting the ones he has reported before until they are 5, and starting another one after the 5 good reports. Altcoins not accepted also. Just a suggestion. But...

If we only allowed third-party submissions, some members may never get their posts reported; self-reporting grants them that privilege.  Self and third-party applications will be accepted, and a good third-party reporter will receive merits for each good report to encourage third-party reports.

The board should concentrate more on sending out organic merits to aid with circulation.  Farm accounts will not receive merits from me.

@charles-Tim we know a tree can't make a forest, but at least revisit that merit source application thread of yours less keep it active, because if @theymos will consider to add merit source to the naija board I think he will consider your application first before considering  any other application so in my own opinion revisit that your thread.

We've only 1 LB merit source and that's our moderator Igebotz, I don't know where you're seeing the handful from, I still stand to be corrected though.

It’s surprising that you don’t know the Naija local board has 2 merit boards, which are Igebotz and Cryptobrainboss. Although we have a lot of quality posts in the LB, and I can say we need more merit circulating in the board to keep people more active and providing more educative content in the LB, one thing is sure: regardless of how we post quality, not all posts will be merited. So that is why sometimes it is considerable. I believe if there is more merit, like other boards, merit will be circulated more than it is currently.

I don't think there is any thread submitted from CryptopreneurBrainboss about being a local board merit source, if there is i haven't seen according to several users he was given merit source not for the local board but as of then when we didn't have any he did majority of the meriting even up till now i still receive merits from him on some of my posts. Someone also helped our local board as well during those times was Hugeblack, if you go through, you can still search through threads where posts were submitted for reviews.

For now we can only take Igebotz as our Moderator and Local merit source while CryptopreneurBrainboss with his kindness for the local board supporting our Mod to merit quality posts since we are not having enough to go round.

To get merit source enough for local board make sense, but if the few way they the board get enough allocation on a monthly basis and then they active them for serve pass where 100 turn out to be source.

This topic is actually a necessity even though I don't mean any negative criticism. I really commend @Igebotz on how he had always been making it round the clock trying to reach out to every merit-worthy post. However, he cannot do it alone. He would definitely need more hands to support him in reaching out to good posts in order not to exhaust members who make several good posts that go unrecognised often times.

Secondly, there's something I noticed within my period being here. I have also seen that sometimes, some of us who actually appreciate some posts and somehow understood it to be a good posts, even with our Smerits, we still don't get involved in meriting such posts. Personally I do feel it's not allowing everyone that right to give out our sendables even after having that clause, "Unused sendables could be decayed..." What is the extent of scrutiny that can allow others assist the moderator to merit good posts? Or would we keep letting Smerits decay even when we would have loved to give credit to an assumed good posts?

It happens to everyone, even the legendary members of the forum appreciates as little as one merit on any of their posts. But this does not give room to meriting posts that are of less grade or being emotional with your post judgement. Everyone believes his post should be merited but that doesn't mean that every post deserves merits.

The moderators are only trying to upload the credibility of the forum by not turning our Naija Local board to a Merit Farm which could lead to loosing the forum completely or sanction.

I am only of the opinion that, any post that @Igebotz and his team found merit worthy but out of Smerits, other forum members can be contacted to give the merit. No one here can have enough merit to give to all the numerous good posts here. We can limit POST VETTING to the moderators only while Merit giving could be extended beyond moderators on approval. This would allow for possible extension of appreciation to everyone deserving.

But then, merit source can't give out merit above what they have been allocated. Once they have exhausted the allocation for the week, I guess regardless of the quality of post, they will have to wait till they are fed with more sendables before they can start meriting post again. Just my take.

You made a good point here no doubt, that's why in my own opinion, since advocating for more merit source is not working, and theymos is not responding to that, if we start advocating for theymos to increase the merit allocation for sir @crytoprenuerbrainboss and sir @igebotz  I believe that he will easily grant that wish than increasing the number of merit source in this our local board, though it would be better to have more merit source so as to reduce the workload on cryptoprenuerbrainboss and igebotz, but since theymos is not responding to that, we actually need to try another means which I believe will be more productive, and that is advocating for the increase in the merit allocation for cryptoprenuerbrainboss and igebotz.

sorry to say I think sir @Charles you can't back out from this, I think you fit to be in this position, checking how far you have been a contributor I the forum, I think in this our local board if top members are be call I guess you will be call in the second or third place after @lgebotz and @brainboss, honestly speaking you are also fit to be in that position to. I meant the merit application thread is open and not locked. I do not have to be the one that will make it active. Nigerians can show support by keeping it active.

I sincerely like the way the rules are strict out, I am add since the merit is less due to allocation given to you then there should be limitations of the number allowed to be reported at certain duration of time for each member, you cannot maybe report more than five of your post in a month. This will both reduce spamming the thread and also help spread the post out, then a penalty should be there for those who actually try to abuse the privilege, because I know there is no way we can actually stop famers from eating but you as a sheriff can be able to use some tricks to fish some out. The Merit should simply be in fairness.

While we at there I think it is time for the entire community to help too by going to those thread to also merit some posts they feel are quality, most especially our merit applicants this kind of gives theymos a reflection of how you will handle the merits when given the opportunity

Some posts are not awarded merit for various reasons; one of them could be that the merit sources we currently have in the LB do not have sufficient merit at that point to distribute or award to all the posts they deemed merit-worthy.

Another reason can be that the post you think of and consider as merit-worthy may not be merit-worthy to the merit sources, and it is within their rights to distribute the merits at their discretion.

More merit sources are, of course, needed, but the argument to get that should never be that the already existing merit sources we have in this LB are being biased in distribution because that will be false, or that they are ignoring some merit-worthy post.

More merit sources are needed to be able to meet up with the demand. Nigerians are active and deserving of merits.

I think it should be more of your first statement and I that  instead of requesting for more merit sources that might not likely be considered by Theymos, we should channel our energy into appealing that he should increase the merit of our merit sources, our merit sources are working hard when it comes to giving our merits, but it really obvious that they need more merits to give out since our board is getting larger.

 Nigeria LB is filled with many good posters, infact we're representing well in this forum and it's due to our good contributions with quality posts, however we can do more better and improve in our quality cause since the merit is scarce, more quality in your post would attract a merit source to merit you.

 Anyways if Theymos notice any appeal for more merit sources and decide to grant the request then it's still for the benefits of our board so I won't be against that.

The first time I joined this forum, this our local board use to be very active and it use to be choked with new topics ( interesting ones) but right now we all can see that reverse is now the case which is not good and permit me to use this word insufficient and lack of merit has made some of our members that use to drop thread not to be doing that because imagine after taking your time to reason out something that will benefit one or two person and at the end it is not recognized or appreciated, that person will definitely stop doing..., and the reason we need to have more than one merit source in our LB is because only our moderator can not go through all the thread or post he is not a computer or robot, he needs helping hand(s) too to reduce stress for him and to enable the distribution run smoothly and effectively.

You made some sense because this is another good point you raised despite that we don't have quite a good number of merit source and the one we have right now, If looking at their merit allocations, it's way far behind the demand at the moment, Already to my knowledge I have seen some merit source application from our their local board like about two or three applications, I think what we should be preying for is for them to get approved by Boss Theymos, so if those merit source applications got approved with a reasonable amount of merit allocation to those users, I think we'll be a bit fine, and they will be able to quench the increasing demand from our their LB.

The wahala way we get for this our local board when en concern merit distribution na Alt account, people they always find am hard to send merit to good post way them see for our local board because them won use the Smerit way them get use am grow there Alt account so that thing now they make merit no dey spread well so no be to get merit source again go solve the problem na for us to develop the habit to they give quality post merit, some local board get only one merit source but because of say the board members they give merit to each other merit they follow well.
Like I talk before if we go just stop this habit of wanting to keep our Smerit to grow our Alt account e go help well well to make sure say merit they follow for the board, Nigeria members get Smerit well well na just this thing I talk like this be our problem.
Sir Igebotz na better thing way you talk say farm account no go get merit from you again now the question na how you won take no farm account if you go fit dictate them e go good and e go better if you share the update so we too no go they send merit to such account.

Cases like this was why I created the unmerited post thread https://asktom.cf/index.php?topic=5506090.320 because there are chances that I may not come across more than 30% of posts daily due to our activities. The thread was to serve as my third eyes for others to report unmerited good posts I missed, but the thread was turned into a spam reporting. It's locked till I find a solution to it.

Secondly - we have the activities, but unfortunately the post quality hasn't been the same, I barely come across good posts these days and sometimes I'm forced to rollover my monthly allocation.

Lastly, if the community starts giving out merits organically to good posts, we would have enough merits - the board generates average 600-800 sent Smerits per month. I generate 10-20 unmerited good posts on this board monthly without a single merit. I'm also affected. Lol 
 

Actually i really appreciate and celebrate you for the good work you are really doing in this our naija local board because it is not that very easy to be able to cover all the threads in this naija local board.

The day i came across the unmerited good post i was glad to have seen such thread because i knew that it will also help to fetch out those unmerited good post so easily without giving you a though time, believe me even it was difficult for me to allocate unmerited good post because i forgot threads that i do my post, More of checking the threads within local board,  you will surely eat fruit of your labour.

I notice that we are lacking merits in our local board, and we will be needing more merit source in our local board, but we shouldn’t just focus on getting a new merit source alone, we are already having two merits source in our local board, which is @Igebotz and @CryptopreneurBrainboss but from my research, I notice that their merit allocation is not that much, we can just created a thread on the meta board requesting for increase in their merit allocation for the two merits source which we are already having, am sure if their merits allocation can be increased, then they will be able to merit more quality posts.
