Alot of modern work environment is one not without stress and within toxicity.. A toxic work place is so common nowadays that employees are trying and must try to fit in. When an employee cannot fit in no matter what the conditions are, some work space does not care all they want is to see you deliver the job.

They want to see commitment all times and days. Some will even try sharing your weekend with you.
NO RESTING EVEN WHEN SICK IS SEEN AS A Symbol of commitment, since to them rest is a symptom of weakness. They expect workers to sacrifice themselves for the job!

Almost all employers want workers to be hardworking. They are happy to see an employee giving his best at all times. However, a good employer acknowledges that humans are not machines. So they are concerned about the health of the workers. Resting is important to the health of humans. Workers should not be overused because the company wants to make profit. Any organization that doesn't care about the well-being of its staff will not get the best. It is inhuman to force a sick worker to work because you don't want to lose man-hours. Such organization will not also retain workers since they will also leave to seek for better conditions of service.

There was a trend in my country and some companies are still practicing it, due to the economic situation they will sack most of their staff and have them reapply as casual workers. A casual worker doesn't have any rights or be entitled to gratuity, they will overwork them and underpay them. Due to the high rate of unemployment most of the workers will comply because if they don't some people are already waiting on the line to collect their jobs. This is a vicious circle for most poor workers, they will work extra hours even when they are not strong enough to do so inorder to survive. Our bodies needs rest and if it's not getting it we can become sick and rest by force, then we will use the money that we have saved up to give to the doctor, people should give priority to their health and engage in works that will not overstress them.

This is a bitter truth, if the company force the employees to work while sick, it means those employees aren't valuable and easy to replace them.

Company do care with valuable employees because if those employees file a resignation letter, the boss will ask them to discuss and offer higher salary or other needs, as long as the employees stays.

There only two choices, out or stay.

If you think you're valuable enough, ask for higher salary or file a resignation letter, but don't be surprised if the company accept your resignation.

As an employee if you let yourself to be forced by your employer to work even at periods you're really sick then, you're doing yourself a disservice. Because at the moment you die while on that job the company will be searching forward to your replacement immediately even before your burial ceremony.  I think it's only employers that has no value for the workers that would force them to work and be expecting productivity at their lowest when they should have been given leave rest to recover.

Even while running your own business, there should be time for resting and proper taking care of self or else you're going to eventually breakdown and stop the work entirely at the end. We are humans and not robots and so, there should of necessity be provision for rest and recovery in whatever work one is doing.

For me, not resting when you're sick is not a strength but a sign of weakness and enslavement to the job one is doing. Even when I watch documentary of some really rich dudes that claim to work there ass out without even resting while painting those that rest as lazy, it does not always make much sense to me. If there's no Ballance between work and taking care of ones health, then something is absolutely wrong with you.

There are times when you need to push a bit harder to get result and that is quite understandable. At such times, you can decide to go above your normal routine and still work even when you're somewhat down but if in the long run you have to keep going even when your health is giving all the signs that you need to take a chill pill, it becomes something that's really questionable.

Possibly but this depends on the nature of the job. If you're a higher ups/post then you're required to address and attend any meeting which can be conducted online, it's fine to say to work while on sick, only if you're able to get up from bed and it won't tire you that much. But if you're required to go to the office even if you have given early notice that you're sick, it's truly a sign of a toxic company that doesn't take care of their people.

If I am the business owner, I'd definite do as long as I can to keep on working because I'm working for my own gain. But if it's for another company, I'll take care of my health because I can be replaced anytime.

Every employer wants their employees go be committed go their jobs so that the company will grow. As for working when you're sick, I don't see any productivity that this will bring to the company's target because a sick man is helpless, weak and has nothing to contribute at that moment. Maybe, it's not a serious sickenss. If not it's impossible for your employer to force you to work in that condition.

When one is newly employed, they are given some documentation stating clearly the terms of their job. The offer letter, letter of appointment, and contract letter should not be taken for granted. Employees should not only show interest in the remuneration. The details in these letters show the conditions attached to the job and the benefits that come with it.

Employees who prioritize their health should simply decline jobs with conditions that show no sympathy for human lives. They should be able to differentiate between an employer who understands what the job entails and one who uses employees until they are drained. Life has no duplicate; good health should be given top priority.

One thing to always remember is that employer is not your friend (he could be but in most cases he is not). If you get sick because of bad work conditions or for overstraining yourself he will kick you out and find someone else to replace you.

It is important to know yourself and your limits and not to cross them. If you need to overstrain yourself and risk injuries in order for your superior to get his bonus - it is not worth it.

Stubborn and loud people who insist on their rights and make clear borders always get better in life than people who stay silent and do whatever is told to them, no matter how hard it is.

If you don't take care of your health (physical and mental) no one else will.

However instead of looking at the symptoms we should look at the risk of working at height when sick because that's a regular job for some persons.

Some people are being deceived by the high pay of a particular job and disregard all day risk and hazard that are involved in the work. I have seen someone who died while walking in rig, and his death was attributed to spiritual attacks by enemies whereas it was discovered that the person has history of asthma and cold which was untreated. Obviously, the cold work environment wasn't good for him but he wouldn't reject it because of the high pay from the job. You can only enjoy high pay only if you are alive.

So, whenever there is unfriendly work environment that has the ability to threaten your life, it is fine you resign from the job and be alive first. You should be alive before you talk about commitment.
