Seems to me like Trump saw an opportunity to test a unique US weapon that was created for strategic nuclear operations, and he took the chance on Iran on behalf of its ally, Israel. From a diplomatic perspective, I have expected the USA to play a core mediation role  to bring the two warring sides to a round-negotiation-table as not to risk the breakout of a ww3 (which doesn't seem likely to occur anytime soon tho). On the other hand, Israel used American to destroy Iran just so Israel can still remain the strongest nation in that region. USA and Israel knows what they are doing, which is all about the nukes.

i feel trump had two goals. one was to disable irans nuclear capabilities and the other to show the world what US can do in one day that takes other countries week-months..
for instance, russia might have thought US was weak with caveman tech, but now they know the US can strike fast, hard and accurately. maybe russia will start thinking of peacedeals with ukraine before US decides to mark off strategic targets in russia
