Online forums like this Bitcointalk and Altcointalk and many others are different from social media. Instead of getting likes or shares your value comes from quality of your posts and helping others. It is good to write thoughtful and detailed replies and to post in threads that much of people read. And also it is very important to share your own original thoughts instead of just repeating others have said. This helps to build good reputation.

True, you should always engage to some mainstream topics or be updated on every discussion about crypto and also here in the forum of course. In order to be a good poster, of course you should always be updated on facts and news, because it'll become useful to other contents as well. You don't want to engage to some topics, and your info is very outdated.

Originality is a factor but if you try to add on OP with additional infos, that's good also.

You shouldn't think that way about the length of a post, because often in technical topics an answer in just a few words can be very valuable for a person who can't figure out his problem. And it's much better than writing huge paragraphs of text without meaning.
I understand why you think that, but thinking in long sentences is more of a gambling thing.

Also you can copy someone else's text, but then you must put it in quotation marks and mark it as quoted, because otherwise, many signature companies will consider this text as plagiarism.

Sure, the quality of your post will determine if you're going to earn Merit or not. You can't be making posts that only covers two or one and half line and start hoping that some day you will get merited no, it never works like that. and sometimes making a lengthy post will not guarantee or qualifies you to earn Merit, Because I have seen several posts that is very lengthy but not meaningful this way you won't be eligible to earn Merit.

Yeah, making a post in a quiet threads seems like a waste of time. As you will not be recognized, so post need to be make in those threads that is always active 24/7, This way you can easily be recognize by those high rank members.

That's the beauty of bitcointalk and honestly speaking that is my favourite part of bitcointalk.
You have to earn your rank. It's like a soldier where you have to earn your position upwards.

I have seen short replies which do help but I have seen many others which don't.
It depends on what the short reply contains. Sometimes, a solution can be very simple and won't require an explanation.

Op it's a good thing you've learned from the time you registered till now. Most newbies take a very long time before they understand that this platform isn't  much like everyother social media it's a place for disciplined and bright minds. Well it's obvious you're learning really fast, now all you have to do is apply this knowledge that you've gotten and also ensure to read forum rules and understand them so you don't go about defaulting one of the rule as that could lead to a severe penalty like ban or negative trust tag which will ruin the reputation of your self. And also do well to ask questions, it would help you learn faster.

The length of the replies doesn't really matter, what matters most is how precise, contributive and solution oriented a reply is. There are lengthy replies that might not even add any value to a thread and such hardly gets noticed nor merited. I have noticed profiles that grow rapidly are those with selfless and straightforward approach towards the growth, continuity and integrity of the community and the coin which we all shill on this platform and beyond. BTC

A straightforward answer when you have one is the best and most times preferable because that's how a comment will get very long; the writer will confuse and complicate things on the way, which could have not been so if they knew when to end it with a full stop instead of expanding on an explanation that's not needed.

Well, OP, I must say you are very lucky to be here because, to me, I really see the forum as an opportunity for the lucky ones, especially in my locality. Using myself as an example, it was very important for me to understand and acknowledge the importance of learning and adapting in the Bitcointalk forum, which I must say has helped me all my long stays here. Having to follow the rules was a majority priority for me then so I might not face any penalties then.

Seeing that I am a newer person here and willing to abide by the ethics of this forum, I think what you said about making longer replies and comments will help in this regard that would help one attain recognition here, but I also think that anyone who is willing to learn from what others have said without much contribution to get noticed, would have also gotten what they wanted in terms of being anonymous to some extent on this forum.

Posting in more threads with more users on board will definitely be a priority here if one is also going to want to have response from the crowd with the major, more respected, more knowledgeable members on this forum. 

I also would like to know how much word count would make a post more acceptable on this forum to make one look serious and more apt to gain the best from here.

Applause for you to try to comprehend some certain things that mighty obstruct the chances of a beginner to grow or to earn a merit, every beginner is supposed to observe the community and figure out the things that the forum recommends and things they dislike before making posts, your observations is a nice one, in addition to your observations a newbie is supposed to know the following

1. It have to read and understand the point of views of op before reply, and a beginner should never reply what it doesn't understand
2. To Preview a post before posting is necessary because it will enable you to figure out a typographical errors
3. Do not rush to post
4. Make a research very well before creating threads and avoid plagiarism and paraphrasing

Merit is earned and also given. You could be close to your next rank and people will decide to give you merits in order to rank you up.

Yes it happens to everyone,as long as you are newbies here, because some many of us newbies have not understand anything here,some feel it's a normal like other social media we are in,where we come to post, or tag or send a friend request chat with someone and we received comments and receive friend request and other things like that,but here is totally different and it's something we are expected to quietly go through the guidelines and understand it to avoid going against the forum rules..


Thank God you realize your mistake in time and make amendment, it's something that happens to everyone us,most especially we the newbies,even me that is replying to your messages are still newbies and I am learning it little by little and I believe I will understand it as long as I always here reading others 's comments and forums rules as well i will be guided..

Forum works differently, you must give a useful contribution to be earn merits and sometimes your definition of "Useful contribution" might not really be useful to another person dishing out merits, in such a case, don't be discouraged, keep contributing and you'll get rewarded on the go

Yep, same reason the use of AI is discouraged here on the forum to promote natural human interactions and not robots interaction, your own thought process is encouraged, it must not be perfect in terms of grammatical construction, as long as your post is readable and constructive, you are good.

If you copy directly and don't give credit to the source, it's called plagiarism and is punishable by banning your account.

You have make your points on those several points that you have mentioned out above, i believe that many has contributed that based on this your topic which i will add to the things which i knew you have come across with as far are you a member in this forum, making a short reply is not that bad because there are some short replies that makes sense and talk the facts in a particular thread, and copying from what another member has already posted is disallowed as far as this forum is concerned, so it is advisable to always be able to write and make your own sentences by yourself.

If your short post carries enough meaning, it might attract more merit even more than a long post, so it doesn't matter. A post has its value and contribution because it has such things and it does not depend on the writer name. I really disagree with you as there is confusion like if a legendary member writes a post, it's helpful because he is a legendary member. It's true as he has spent a lot of time in reading, learning, and contributing for ranking up to this Legendary rank so his brain has good knowledge about Bitcoin and the forum.

However, it does not mean another member with a lower rank like Full member or even lower can not contribute good things with similar information and even more insights.

The time was 2013-2017 rise of forums. Not just BitcoinTalk forum I saw lot's of other actives forums were doing so well, peoples were actively perticpating various types knowledge gathering thing , share their knowledge , learn from it. Those forums are rn empty , traffics were shifted towards social media like X , Reddit . Not all social medias are shit, you could find some value on it.

I remember a forum name Tech tunes , was very famous on our region. Time passed and no one ever remembered their name now. It's not like you've to post long or have to share your knowledge. Just learn what you can , become a pro. Maybe a newbie came towards you ask help you could have help them . I was a newbie, didn't even knows how to post on forum now I do helps newbie's.

I honestly agree on this. In fact, the more you wrote on your post, the higher chances of getting mistakes and it will only bring confusion to the readers. So if one can write a short but precise post, a short but on-topic, and a short but still of high quality, then there’s no reason to prefer a lengthy post.

Any post can be of great help, as long as it’s never off-topic but instead adds more valid information and ideas.
