Okay, so I am brand new to the whole mining thing. I am not really technical, so please refrain from technical jargon lol. I watched a video on YouTube on how to set up the Nano 3S. The person in the video suggested using the solo.ckpool.org pool. I just set my nano up using that pool, but I was unsure if that is the one that is best for solo mining. I understand that a lot of it is based on user preference but I feel like 2% fee for a solo pool seems high? Interested to hear everyone's thoughts

I suggest Kano.is as his pool fee is just 0.5%, you can choose either solo or pooled (PPLNS) mining. You do have to register with it. I've been using his pool since 2014 and highly recommend it.

you can mine at kano or ck or viabtc

all of them will do the most important part of a solo pool

they will pay the block if you hit it

now frankly the math says you will die before you hit the block if you mine with under 300 th.

300 x .06 =18  bucks a day

or 180,000 in 10,000 days

or 360,000 in 20,000 days

20,000/365=54.795

55 years assuming difficulty never goes up.

and 300th is way more than a nano s

I'm not really sure I follow your math. Where is the 0.06 coming from?

I am looking at their website right now, and I'm not sure if I understand the difference between Solo mining and PPLNS pools. I see their example for someone who lives NYC:

"If you are in NewYork, you should set the first pool to stratum+tcp://nya.kano.is:3333
and the second pool to stratum+tcp://al.kano.is:3333"

Are these solo pools, or are these their PPLNS pools? Is there an easy way to tell the difference?

All of his nodes are for both solo and PPLNS. When you register with Kano you have to choose either the Solo option or PPLNS shared rewards option. That is what sets which is used. You cannot change back and forth between them, once you have picked one if you want to change to the other you will need to register another username & btc rewards address for it.
