The First Rule for Beginners: Observe Before You Contribute

Many of our new users are mostly fond of rushing to create threads/post without first taking their time to read, observe, and understand how this forum works, I personally made those mistakes when I first started out.....But the simple and honest truth is that newbies should first of observe and read before you contribute or even create topics.

I am not saying these things because newbies don’t have anything meaningful to contribute, it's jjust that when you take your time to first read,  you will better understand where to post, how discussions flow, and even what has already been answered. That way, you will not fall into the trap of spamming the forum or even repeating same questions or writing in the wrong section.  This Bitcointalk forum is a huge fountain of knowledge, and many of the answers you maybe seeking for has already being written and answered by those of higher ranks....

More than 80 percent of newbies coming in to the forum in one way or the other are being introduced by an old forum members which is meant to have given the newbies they are introducing such fundamentals to guide them use the forum in a more better ways of navigating the forum to avoid such repeatation of topics and posting in the wrong board, it is those that brings newbies in to the forum that is supposed to have much of the blames concerning this by default they owe them certain preliminary information and guidance and how best to explore in the forum and if this is been taken in to account we are going to see that newbies coming in or any newbies that was properly oriented will do better than others.

It looks like a trend for newbies and as such, we may not see it coming to an end soon. Every newbie will want to voice out and announce their welcome into the forum by asking questions on how they can go about the forum. These posts have mostly pinned to every board but since they see it as a trend in newbies, everyone will want to do theirs to feel recognized as part of forum members that joined the forum recently. Going through the forum is not hard but getting to search for a topic or question raised in the forum before may be hard for newbies because of how the search tool of the forum is designed.

However, the problem is majority of these new participants have set a wrong mindset that they can make this forum an instant get rich quick source of income. So they think they have to keep posting and quickly earn merits so that later on, they can start earning from signature campaigns.

What they don’t know is that the forum has also its rules to follow. If one breaks the law consistently, he might get banned and kick out from the forum instead. Therefore I agree on you OP, observe the forum first and take your time reading and exploring every board discussions and how the forum members interact with each other through healthy and informative discussion. That way, new members will learn from them and avoid breaking those imposed rules which is certainly a must.

From my own point of view, I would say the blame should be shared to both parties, yea. Some to the forum member that faios to share such an information to the newbie thar came onboard through his help. When you show someone the way, you point out some certain things that are too important and cannot be overlooked. So they must have to guide them to ensure they tmdont use the forum wrongly Ans hoping that as time goes on, they would learn more and adapt to the forum.

On the other hand, some blame too goes straight to the pocket of the newbie, yea. I believe that he must have been told to read, knowing that if he reads, he would naturally get the knowledge to navigate the forum in peace. But so many newbies fail this instruction and they are in a hurry to create a topic and ending up doing lots of mistake.

Any newbie who reads all this links provided here, the newbie would get better understanding than the one that didn't read at all. Since I joined this forum, reading has been my companion. It has taught me alot. So to all the newbies out there, if you must know it and do it right, commit yourself to reading by navigating the forum, and you will never regret it.

Newbies are always so desperate to post on the forum here, they don’t always take their time to read, some of them just think the forum is all about just posting, and they don’t know we are here to learn.  Also as a newbie, there are so many useful threads already which they can learn from, they don’t have to just come here, and keep on asking questions that have been asked so many times already.

Some of them are so lazy to check around the forum, they still going to create thread asking people to help them with necessary informations about the forum. Things that are already in pinned post in different boards, if they have taken their time to check the forum, they will have seen all those necessary links.

You have already provided the necessary links newbies will be needing to properly navigate the forum, don’t be surprise that you will soon be seeing a thread by newbie requesting for all this links which you just provide. Newbies are just so lazy to check around the forum.

What newcomers (especially in this forum) need is to read more first, then increase their curiosity to increase their opportunities to gain more knowledge, and then start to be able to contribute to the forum by sharing their experiences, and sharing their opinions that are constructive and useful. So, in essence, "curiosity" is a basis for expanding knowledge about anything, maybe this seems trivial and easy, but in reality, many people fail (especially newbies), they often make mistakes due to the lack of knowledge they have obtained, and often ignore the guidelines, or rules that have been provided in the forum. Therefore, learn more by the methods I have mentioned, and believe that there is no instant way, all good paths require more time for maturity (in anything).

How do you know that 80% of newbies were introduced by an active forum member. Some people joined this forum out of research about bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto so you can't blame anyone who is inexperienced about where and how to make a post. And even if we have read the rules of the forum it is also good to remind us of the rules from time to time so that we don't forget and make mistakes. But if someone is introduced to the forum by an existing forum member it is important they give a guide about the forum and not just leave everything for the newbies to find out by themselves.

That's true, newbie keep on advising newbie every now and then and act as if they different from what they proclaim, but that is just the fun about forum. The most important thing is the message that is been passed acros, if newbie where to be classified, then there could be grade 1 newbie, grade 2,3,4 and so on. so each of them have different level of experience and want to shear the experience, most of these experience sheard can lead to a serious discussion that even higher rank member will challenge themselves to learn from it. So I believe that every information is very important no matter the type of information or the rank of the person who is passing it.

The logic is like this.

If someone really want to give a meaningful contribution, they won't spamming, why? because it takes time to write a good post. They also won't commit plagiarism because they have no intention to make people impressed with their post, all they want is to contribute to the forum.

They might break some forum rules like post in a row, asking the same question or post in a wrong section, but breaking those rules is nothing, you high unlikely get banned for that and it doesn't make people to hate you.

I have come across of people who no matter how i told them that to read and study what is happening in the forum, just rush on blasting topic and sometimes, just signup and never come back, while some old people who does not know the forum know a lot of things, maybe they are newbies but they might know a lot better from others, they just don't know how to start, so we better guide them on how to do things, just for a start, who that we don't just add members in the forum and they became inactive after.

There is lot of stuff already available for new commers and already registered members that can help them in improving there understanding about the forum and also about crypto. The new commers should make it a habit, to spend some time on this forum on daily basis just to read what's already posted and what's new on the forum. The forum has many experienced members that have spent over 10 years on this forum and it's worth going through there posts. Spending time and energies on already posted material is more beneficial then asking simple questions on the forum.

Newbies Stop Teaching When You Need To Learn.

Likely writing topics to teach other newbies is the easiest way to get merit so they can not ignore this method and use it very frequently. With a new moderator appointed for Beginners & Help board, there are less topics like this recent weeks and those topics are quickly locked by Mitchell.
