IMO, if we are talking about spot trading, of course it's very different and can't be compared to gambling. With gambling, you don't have the potential to hold coins. Instead, you can only pay without any return on every dollar you pay when you are in wrong positions. If you buy Bitcoin, let say 0.00001 BTC, when the price is 100,000, you will still have 0.00001 BTC when the price is 120,000 or even 90,000. There's no decrease in your BTC, only a change in the selling price. Only if you are using leverage, so I agree it not different with gamble.

Basically, investing is inherently risky. So whether you hold or trade, you are at risk. But it is clear that holding is much safer if you compare both.

Let's say we ignore the concept of risk in investing and consider Bitcoin as risk-free, and we only compare their own risks. It can be said that long term holders are virtually risk free, while traders still face risks due to short term market fluctuations. Any risk you know you cannot accommodate don't embark on such risk, because you will not be happy when you don't see what you are expecting from the risk. There are some high risk that will make you quit trading or investment if  you don't have money to fuel your trading or investment to the level you will begin to see good result and it can make you quit.

However, everything has its own risks, especially with things that involve profit, there are certainly downsides and other risks. And if we do it in a less than optimal way, such as when making a decision and it is done without thinking or considering it first, the risk is great and the results may be disappointing because the considerations are not so good. Gambling is gambling. Responsible trading or investing is already a different story. People sometimes only tell it's gambling because some are not responsible and no knowledge at all on what they are doing.

It's all just managing risk to me.

Anything could be a gamble if you're reckless enough, even subprime mortgage collapse was caused by gambling on the housing market.
Even if it's gold there's also over leveraged position which is also gambling. But if you can manage risk, even if you gamble in a casino but with managed risk and good strategy, it's just another speculation and can be another form of trading.

Know your risk is the most important thing here. Just my 2 cents though, take it with grain of salt.

In my opinion every investment involves risk where you are expecting profit you should also be expecting loss and in trading these factors plays out is either you lose or you profit so trading is an investment not a gambling

I am curious where they found these data and how they prepared these statistics. If this is true, then it's a terrible stat to be honest. Unfortunately, I am one of the 97% who lose some money without doing any proper research before opening a position. Later, I became a holder even though I started doing day trading, and didn't intend to be a holder. I sometimes feel like trading is more dangerous than gambling. You don't know what the future holds, even after doing your best. The market doesn't always follow the previous pattern.
