Stop with this misogyny. Gloria is a great developer, better than luke-jr and anyone working on Bitcoin Knots or anyone employed at that shady mining pool OCEAN. There is no chance that she will be removed for something like this and this is a good time to remember why Bitcoin Core does not ask users for input on who should be the maintainer. OP_RETURN changes are here to stay, that is my analysis. If you want something else you are free to create your own fork, just don't come crying here when it becomes irrelevant like Bitcoin Cash. If you understood how Bitcoin Core process worked on GitHub, you would understand that she is unable to merge that change without approval from others. If she did then she would lose her role pretty soon. This means that if she had not merged it, someone else would have.
It is crazy how many closet misogynists and pedophiles have come out over this. There are many more than we seem to perceive in regular debate.. In reality Gloria is a fierce angel.

Point of correction it was introduced by developer instagibbs (Greg Sanders) And first pull request was made by Peter Todd around 2023 I'm surprised why you are not insisting they should be banned But picking Gloria. fix the code? The proposal is already modified to accommodate readjusting Datacarriersize.

Good background information thanks for that. I'm surprised why you are not insisting they should be banned But picking Gloria.
I assume that you don't know how far the misogynist against Gloria went, but that is also good because the stuff that has been going on is terrible and nobody needs all that toxic information in their brain. They even started circulating rumors than Gloria got her position because she got a boyfriend in Core or something like that. These people are just evil. Besides such claims and theories are also very dumb. If someone can infiltrate Core so high up just through a relationship, then the whole project is already run by a government agency and compromised. Any normal person would be happy that there is such a good woman coder in Bitcoin, diversity that comes after it is earned by merit improves the perspectives and collective thought process when issues are considered. I was quite happy when she started contributing to Bitcoin.

I think Zhao should make am announcement that she is canning every single actor who voted in this change, make public all their sources of funding, and tell us that core will now be dedicated to fogh spam as best as possible. And recognize spammers are not legitimate actors, that they constitute an attack on bitcoin.
And than, she should resign.
This is the only way core will survive. But don't hold your breath.

Like what @dogedegen has said, this is probably classic case of misogyny. Pick the woman and make it seem like your problems are her fault. I do not mind criticism against a woman if it is accurate, but we should only be spreading real information around here. It can spread like wildfire and misinformation would be the perceived truth instead.

I think she should be replaced with a cis white man. At least idiots like you won't attack us and claim we are being mysoginist or racist for criticising the head dev of core. I hope she's not a lesbian, or else you'll never shut up.

What? Looking at https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/32406, the one who create/introduce the PR is GitHub user @instagibbs. @glozow is the one who merge it. If you understood how Bitcoin Core process worked on GitHub, you would understand that she is unable to merge that change without approval from others. If she did then she would lose her role pretty soon. This means that if she had not merged it, someone else would have.
Yeah, the PR page shows there are at least 6 reviewers who approve the change introduced by the PR.

Why don't Bitcoin Core organization: - ban Gloria Zhao (@glozow) who introduced the destructive change "uncap OP_RETURN" PR#32406 in Core v30, - fix the code? Should her permission to accept changes to Core be revoked?
Gloria Zhao, a Bitcoin Core maintainer, played a key role in the controversial decision to remove the default 80-byte data limit for the OP_RETURN function in the Bitcoin Core v30 software update. This change effectively raises the maximum data storage to nearly 4 megabytes per output, significantly increasing the volume of non-financial data, such as images and text, that can be embedded in a Bitcoin transaction.
The OP_RETURN change The proposal: The initiative to lift the OP_RETURN restriction was first proposed by Bitcoin developer Peter Todd and later implemented by Zhao. Developer motivation: Zhao and other developers involved argued for the change by stating it is not the role of Bitcoin Core to restrict how transactions are used, as long as they are consensus-valid. Supporters also noted that the old 80-byte limit was ineffective and pushed users toward more inefficient and problematic methods of storing data on the blockchain. Implementation: Zhao confirmed the final merge of the pull request for the change in June 2025. It is included in the Bitcoin Core v30 release, which was scheduled for October 2025. User override: The update does allow node operators to manually set a smaller data limit, but analysts predict most nodes will simply use the new default. Community controversy
The decision has created a major split within the Bitcoin community, pitting those who support broader use cases against those who argue for preserving Bitcoin's original purpose as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Arguments against the change Network spam: Opponents, including developer Luke Dashjr, argue that lifting the limit encourages the use of the network for "non-financial transactions" like inscriptions (NFTs), potentially overloading the blockchain and crowding out financial transactions. "Systemic risk": Some critics believe that increased data storage could introduce "systemic risk" to Bitcoin's core function. Alternative client: In response, the alternative Bitcoin Knots client, maintained by Luke Dashjr, has seen a surge in adoption as some node operators signal their disapproval by switching away from Core. Funding withdrawal: In a notable protest, the Satoshi Action Fund withdrew financial support for Bitcoin Core development due to the controversy, citing a lack of consensus.
Arguments for the change Developer neutrality: Zhao has maintained that Bitcoin Core developers should not be the arbiters of what constitutes a "legitimate" transaction. Protocol integrity: Supporters view the change as being neutral to the protocol itself since the OP_RETURN function has always existed and the change doesn't alter Bitcoin's fundamental consensus rules. Broader use cases: Developers like Peter Todd also see this as a way to unlock new applications for Bitcoin beyond just payment

Except it is NOT controversial to most people. And for the people that matter, which means miners, and exchanges and pools the important ones seem to be for it. Screw Core. It has been run by a clown show circus for the last several years and keeps getting worse with every new version. No offense to real clowns. Zhao isn't the only buffoon in the Core-tard circus act. You can remove one buffoon only to be replaced by another. It is a futile exercise. At this point Core is compromised and beyond fixing. It is malware and you can't fix malware, and they aren't even pretending anymore. IMO the only sensible solution is for nodes to switch to Knots while supporting the development of a soft fork as proposed by Adam Back, Nick Szabo, Samson Mow, etc.

Why revoke anyone when you could just keep things permissionless and trustless *Permissionless: anyone can just join and leave at will, or with little to zero barrier to entry. * Trustless: Every proposal is thoroughly reviewed for issues (especially issues that go against the Bitcoin principles) before it's approved or denied.
Notwistanding, it's important to note that Bitcoin has become so advanced and toughened that going against its principles or attempt to attack it will greatly backfire.

Is this a spam post or why did you write this? *Permissionless: anyone can just join and leave at will, or with little to zero barrier to entry.
This is not how Bitcoin Core works or how GitHub works, nor has this anything to do with the role of a maintainer that has merge proposals. They can't just join and leave at will. This is a very important role that is traditionally given to respected members who have made a name for themselves through their work. Gloria is one of them. When there is a need for another maintainer then someone is proposed and they will vote on it. I think almost everyone or everyone said yes to Gloria, even Luke. * Trustless: Every proposal is thoroughly reviewed for issues (especially issues that go against the Bitcoin principles) before it's are accepted or denied.
This part is true, but that does not mean that nothing can get it. Notwistanding, it's important to note that Bitcoin has become so advanced and tough that going against its principles or attempt to attack it will greatly backfire.
This is not true. There are many ways that any system can be attacked. Some are known and others are unknown, but no system is safe from all attacks.

^ That explains why people could still be afraid of Bitcoin getting attacked by its own developers .Anyway, that post is an idea that can make Bitcoin almost impossible to attack/abuse by the developers.. You don't need to blindly depend on the so called respected members nor even have that words "respected members" atall. It could encourage trusting their works without thoroughly reviewing them. Reviewers or a system should always assume no one is trustworthy or respected, that will help them always be on alert. You could however use reputation scores especially to observe developers with bad reviews, the ones with little to no bad reviews could be given more opportunity to do more reviews rather than trusted. And you can always open the whole thing up for competition. Everyone is invited to join and compete, and the first solution without much issues get approved. The development environment needs to operate without trusting or respecting anyone. You just assume they will be evil.
If you think Bitcoin can be successfully attacked then prove it. By the way, I hope you know why the Core update has backfired?

Because Gloria Zhao didn't commit that change by herself, it went under extensive peer review with the other Bitcoin maintainers. So they would have to be banned as well. And then you'd have no more maintainers.

There's this flawed perception that bitcoin is somewhat a "democracy", and Bitcoin Core developers' positions are selected based on public merit, and are subject to scrutiny. In reality, Bitcoin Core is an open-source project where influence is determined by informal hierarchies, long-term involvement, and trust among a relatively small group of contributors. If people can't grasp this simple fact, they have every right to stop running Bitcoin Core, and go run something else.
