Ortiz has been the interim champion for more than a year but has yet to challenge for the full title. He is a threat to champions like Fundora and Zayas, so they have chosen to avoid him. Lubin is the best available fighter he could have faced. I believe the fight will be competitive, but Ortiz is on a different level and should come out the winner. After that, he might fight Boots Ennis, and regardless of who the champions are, this will determine who is #1 in the division.

It will be important for Ortiz to keep his eyes locked in on this fight resisting the temptation to look ahead. Many are seeing this as a springboard for the Ortiz - Boots fight which promises to be way more exciting, but he has to get past Lubin to get to that fight. I read that Boots will be ringside which makes it harder to focus, but big fighters train all the time for this. I expect Ortiz to win this one.

This is a good match, I'll go with Ortiz with this one. 23-0 with 21 knocked out, is a good stats though his last 2 matches he wasn't able to win via KO or TKO, but with his consistent pressure and strong punches he might be able to get a KO this time, considering Erikson's defense were not consistent in his previous matches. Ortiz itself is aware that Erickson Lubin do also have power and experience which might turn the match. I'm looking forward in this match and I'll be placing a bet that Ortiz will win via KO/TKO. I’m not really familiar with these boxers, but based on their records, I’d go with Vergil Ortiz Jr. to win this one. He’s underrated - 21 KOs out of 23 wins says a lot, looks like a solid KO artist. Lubin also has power, but he’s already been beaten twice. Personally, when I bet on fights, I tend to trust the undefeated ones more as they don’t know how to lose yet.

Ortiz Jr. looks sharper and has the power edge, but Lubin’s defense and counter game could stretch it to later rounds. If Ortiz can pressure early without gassing, it’s his fight to lose. Might be worth looking at the under 8.5 rounds or Ortiz by TKO for value.

I thought Lubin might put up more resistance, but Vergil finished him in two rounds. Lubin was knocked out while he was still standing up. Ortiz’s next fight should be against Boots Ennis, but the promoter Oscar de la Hoya seemed hesitant to commit to making that happen. When Oscar drags his feet like that, it usually means that he is not so confident in his fighter’s ability to win.

I would prefer to see a Vergil vs. Ennis superfight, but I can’t blame Oscar for playing hardball and delaying the fight a while after Boots had previously rejected the fight. They might first try to negotiate an easier fight against Fundora, which is still a good fight, but fans might consider it ducking if Vergil goes in that direction.

Yes, that could be a super fight, Ortiz vs Ennis. I don't know but there were interviews that says Oscar wanted a fight with Ennis. And it's about time for Ortiz to really give us a show, I mean he is very lucky to make a huge comeback because as far as I know, his career is almost over when he had that medical condition.

Ortiz isn’t quick enough, sure, he’s got undeniable power, but if he can’t land a solid shot on Ennis, he’s going to have a hard time.

And considering Ennis is also a knockout artist with 31 KOs out of 35 wins, that’s a tough wall to break.
Still, I’d salute Ortiz if he takes that fight, it shows he’s not afraid to face a real champion.

It's going to be a close fight if this two fought next. Ortiz did have a good chin too, and I think has a better resume resume than Ennis. For now it seems that Ennis is jus pure hype as he hasn't fought a good boxer that's why he seems to knockout everyone.

But if he will have to fought like A level fighters in this division, he might have a hard time beating them. So let's see, they have confronted each other and are talking trash already. Hopefully Oscar is willing to talk to Ennis camp and have this fight for us next year.

I don't know mate, but I have a feeling that Ortiz could give Ennis a run for his money. Ortiz used to be an elite fighter at the 147 lbs before until illness and he lost 2 years of his career battling that. So he could be by now a world champion. So he has the talent to be a world champion and with that, he could have a chance against Ennis.

Might be a good test for Ennis is Zayas as well. But not sure why this two hasn't fought. Probably it's the politics of boxing. Or even a fight with Madrimov vs Ennis could be as good as Ortiz vs Ennis as well.

LMAO. Lost a bet on this one. I really thought Lubin has the advantage but man, he kept leaning on those ropes like his career depend on it.  
No idea why he kept on doing that, he should have got out whenever he gets the chance, but, alas, he didn't.
Ortiz's left hooks really throws Lubin off, must have hurt when those punches lands.
My man only lasted 2 rounds. lol. Well, on to the next fight.
