I just put $10,000 into SUI. Smart move or big F up?

Way back in spring '25, I put $14K into coins.  BTC, XRP, Solana, Chainlink, Cardano, a few hundred bucks of DOGE, and I had a little Helium HNT left over from my mining account, so I kept it.  Only about 15 coins or so.

At the time, I considered SUI, but didn't buy any.  Of course, it nearly doubled shortly after my money was all set in other coins.

Through the year, my $14K became 15, 18, 17, 19, 20, 18, 15, and is now at 12.5.  I'm not worried, it'll bounce again.  I was planning to sell in the $30-$40 K range, but my account never got past 20.5, so I held it.

But now since all coins have dipped, and SUI dropped to 2 then $1.50, then into the $1.30s, I think maybe I should load up on it.

From what I have read, SUI is like Cardano but better, which was like Ethereum but better, which was like Bitcoin but better.

I don't care what SUI does or does not do.  All I care about is buy low + sell high = PROFIT!

So with the help of some other cash I had available but was hesitant to touch, I am now poised to make a big SUI buy.  If $10,000 could be considered "big", considering all the whales we have around here.  I'm just looking for the bottom.  Various things I've read say it might dip to $1.05, or maybe this is the bottom.  Who knows.

What do you think of SUI and my choice of a time to buy in big?

I just gamble with $10,000, and not saying you (put) such phrase make the statement to look as if you invested the money whereas what you did in reality is to gamble with the coin and your money, hoping that you get lucky to hit a good profits or better get ready to ber the loses that may occur.

Are you comparing SUI to Bitcoin? Or I'm the one misunderstanding what I read? It might turn out to be a better coin than other altcoins but comparing to be better than Bitcoin is not possible. If bull season is done already, it means that we are gradually heading into a bear season, SUI will dump more in the bear season and I won't rush to buy it or any altcoins now if I had $10k set out for buying just altcoins. I will patiently wait till the bear market when every coins is falling including Bitcoin, that's the best time I can buy the dip. The Bitcoin you bought is a leverage to you if you don't make profit from the SUI and the others you hold, Bitcoin won't be like them.

All I can say this is a wise move, we all know crypto market is all manipulated by whales and theres no reason why the market is dumping and I dont think is already a bear market, just do a dca everytime price down and hodl it.

Generally speaking, "investing" into altcoins has always been a terrible idea because if you are extremely lucky the profit you'd make is smaller than what you can make in bitcoin (when bitcoin goes up against dollar it brings dollar price of altcoins up even though they are dumping) and other times you lose a lot of money since altcoins get dumped.

If you check the long term charts of any altcoin against bitcoin (eg. ETH-BTC) you can only see dumps where they keep going down, specially those which existed in 2017 and got pumped back then are all on a downward spiral.

Altcoins are only good for "short term" trading because that's how long their pump and dumps last. You gotta enter while they are pumping and exit before their dump begins.

I know I am on the Altcoins Discussion Board but what I am about to say applies 100 percent.

Altcoins are a time ticking bomb.  You have two options.  You join the Altcoin before or during a Bull run and cash out before the Great Dump or you completely mess up the entire strategy and buy 10,000,000 of the Shit Coin with .01 Bitcoin and then waste time, Money, electricity, emotions, stress et cetera to only sell the 10,000,000 Shit Coins for 5,000 Dollars.  But by the time you get your 5,000 Dollars back, .01 Bitcoin will be worth more than that.

You will be fooled by the percentages you see.  This is because while Bitcoin is on a general positive trend, the Altcoins crash by over 70 percent and then 'come back' with a 25 percent increase in a single day.  The Altcoins trend is still generally negative.  You will also be fooled by what the Price looks like versus Bitcoin.  It appeared almost impossible for many that Bitcoin would ever even touch 10,000 Dollars.  It was over 12 times more than that only a matter of weeks ago.

Now of course we can be wrong and you may hit the one particular Altcoin to outdo what Bitcoin does in the following years.  However, it is a too risky trade in my opinion.  Particularly if you can not afford to lose the 10,000 Dollars.

This is why I don't really get their point on why they try to invest on other altcoin while in fact the movement of those coin including what he mentioned would follow on what currently going on those two big coins.

That's why instead of trying to gamble their $10,000 on SUI much better if they put it on Bitcoin since there's more chance that they can earn rather than with the questionable coin they point out.

I also believe that altcoin is for short term and I don't trust any of it, since there's a chance that same with other top alts which turn as scam it can happen to these coins they mentioned.

I 100% agree with you on this bro, this is not an an investment, but a pure gamble.
It baffles me that their are folks out there that risk so much on alt coin like SUI, or is this guy so ignorant to understand that alt coin falls more than they rise?
The only statement I have for the op is simple, the deed has already been done, so looking for ways to remedy it is what he should be looking at now because that amount is just too much to risk on alt coin. So I would advice he sell it off now that it's not too late, either in a profit or in a loss, because holding further will do more damage than good.

It is not too late, go back and take your money out of that shithole, another thing you did wrong is the timing, now is not a good time to invest in altcoins.

Why not buy bitcoin and hold? There is a  chance that bitcoin will recover back to 103k before turning more ugly, you can take profit at 100+ and wait for price decline to buy back again.

I’m not a fan of Sui, but when I checked it out, it really does look like it has the potential to give profits to investors who believe in it. Even I want to buy it and make it a long-term investment.
But when it comes to an amount like $10,000 just for SUI, I just don’t have the courage to do that. Maybe with a small amount, yes but not with that kind of money.

But if I had a lot of money, I wouldn’t think twice about buying that much, and I might even put in more than that. It’s just that I’m not like OP, who seems to be rich

Sui may have a good vision, where this altcoin has a specific design for scalability and even network transaction speed without having to sacrifice high costs. But I personally don't see any difference between this altcoin to other altcoins. And we know that competition in the crypto market will clearly affect the value of altcoins relative to one another. The emergence of many layer 1 altcoins or even the emergence of new altcoins with better innovations has the potential to diminish Sui's appeal. So you must remain vigilant about the possibilities. You may need to set a stop-limit order if Sui continues to decline so it allowing you to minimize the risk of significant losses on your holdings. However Sui could potentially experience strong value growth if the project continues its development. It appears that Sui could offer benefits to investors in this token if the focus on supporting the ecosystem remains consistent as stated by Christian Thompson as Managing Director of the Sui Foundation (Source).

You've done it on a wrong timing.

I am no alt expert but I held some alts and they didn't made me profit and cost me money and never have recovered.

And right now that the market is starting to get into the bear market, you're probably quite late on the profit area. That $10k is big to be honest and you should have done that a year earlier.

While there are people that will tell you that it's a good coin and that will make you even feel better. I think this amount should have been better if placed to Bitcoin.

It is your choice to invest in any kind of coin of your own choice, but I will say that you should be careful about the kind of coin or token you choose to invest in. Sui is not a bad project, but there is no assurance that it will happen the way you are planning for it. The price of Sui may actually fall, as you said, since the whole market seems to be going down. But that does not mean that during the bear market it will survive or give you some kind of profit you are expecting from it.So just know that you are basically gambling with that huge amount. I advise you to rethink and make a better decision. And again, don’t invest in Sui just because of what people are saying about it try to do your own research OP.

OP, altcoins are very risky, now sui is not a bad currency, but investing $10k in one altcoin is not wise. And maybe the bear market has started so choosing altcoins at this time is the wrong decision. As many have mentioned above, if you invest $10k in sui then it will be like gambling. So in my opinion, instead of investing $10k in one altcoin, invest in different currencies. If I were you, I would start accumulating Bitcoin using DCA strategy with $9k and invest the remaining $1k in different altcoins. So, you should do more research.

Okay, you put your money into several baskets so that your profits are diversified, right? Now, of all the types of coins you currently hold, let's see which ones are truly profitable. Because honestly, you will be tested by a bear market that will likely claim many victims.

But congratulations to you, regardless of whether you carelessly split your portfolio into several baskets or have already done your research. The point is that one must first experience the bitter side to understand how risky it is to invest in volatile assets.

I never got into SUI and more about going LTC / SOL, but if such sums in question are not that big for you - make up your analysis and do it. Don't forget about the risks, though.

My first impression of SUI is that it's underwhelming blockchain with not really popular ecosystem.

It could go up, but I don't know when. If i considered fundamental I'd choose ETH at least it got the ETF, but if you like to invest in lower tier L1 then it's up to you.
SUI has the history of going up so high as long as there's hype. But the thing with coin like SUI, XRP, etc is that they sometime just go up on a whim.

I don't hate people who invest in altcoins because some of them are profitable too, but since they are very risky it is advisable to only invest a small amount. However, if you throw a large amount of money into altcoins, it is like gambling, it is no longer a real investment.

So, should you gamble and which games should you play? I think you should make that decision for yourself. No one will be able to give you advice because no one wants to take responsibility for you. Or you also don't need to ask for advice because gambling is mostly based on luck, people will not be able to give you useful advice either.
