Hi everyone I am curious to as if this certain EHD Can be good to host a SoloNode such as umbrel by installing umbrel through a USB and porting over to the Seagate itself or Just straight up buy a umbrel with the highest TB storage with the blockchain evergrowing I just saw and thought 24TB would legit be the way the go and be the first and only purchase I need with exactly 24TB that will last me many many years to come

https://ibb.co/wZn1LYWg https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/seagate-expansion-24tb-usb-3-0-external-hard-drive-stkp24000400/19179856

If I can get this would I have to have a separate Pc to run the node seeing I would have to keep the pc up 24/7 and such to ensure the node is always up and running?

Much help would be appreciated Smiley

no need for a slow 24tb drive.

a 4 tb ssd like this on amazon is good.

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Portable-External-Compatible-Windows/dp/B0F334SXSC/ref=sr_1_4?

https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Portable-Professionals-MU-PC4T0T-AM/dp/B0CX9BV341/ref=sr_1_3?

https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Portable-Professionals-MU-PG4T0B-AM/dp/B0CHFSZX9W/ref=sr_1_1?

any of the above are good.

they all can attach to a small form pc and run linux or attach to a laptop and run linux

4tb should last for years and is much faster than the hdd.

you can clone a backup to a 8tb hdd in case the ssd dies.

with the blockchain evergrowing I just saw and thought 24TB would legit be the way the go and be the first and only purchase I need with exactly 24TB that will last me many many years to come

Bitcoin blockchain size growth isn't fast as you expect. Theoretical maximum block size is 4MB, while average block size this year is about 1.59MB[1]. For reference, current blockchain size is about 702GB[2].

Code:
Total blocks in a year = 144 blocks * 365 days = 52560 blocks
Current free capacity (for 24TB HDD) = 24576GB - 702GB = 23874GB (24446976 MB)

Years to fill 24TB HDD = 24446976 MB / (52560 blocks * 4MB) = 116... years

Your HDD will die before 116 years passed. So i agree with @philipma1957 suggestion, although i would also recommend you to avoid QLC-based SSD. Such SSD could be very slow after it used all cache.
