Report Shill Bidding On The Forum

This is an important topic that needs to be discussed on the forum. Shill bidding is when a seller, or someone working with them, places fake bids on their own auction item to inflate prices and deceive legitimate buyers. This is not allowed on major platforms regardless of full disclosure. Shill bidding destroys the collectible industry. Any recommendations how the forum can monitor auctions to prevent shill bidding would be helpful.

As far as I know, the forum moderation policy does not cover scams, fake feedback or vouches, shilling etc. This mostly is dealt with by DT members, where they will send negative or neutral tags to those involved in the malpractice.

So this topic is not a meta kind of topic. Maybe reputation board.

In any kind of bidding there's no way it is allowed. Also, it's not the forum's concern, it's the collectible/auction community. I remember there are few of these issue before, it was handled by the community by giving negative tags, thus the auctioneer's next auction is not so effective anymore because of it's reputation.

Just be clear, in the case that you meant me by this, I never said that. I told you to create a topic in Meta asking why your topic was removed (as I didn't do so and cannot see who did). I did not tell you to recreate it in Meta (reputation would be probably be better, like logfiles said).

Shelling services is what the forum will never promote and don't even believe it that Moderators deletes your posts at the course of your trying to rise alarm about it. That is if you noticed one being existed in the community.
So if you have a burden about related shilling service being tolerated here that aspired you made this post, I would suggest you either move this to the reputation board as recommended by other users or you just lock this one and make air your mind if you have come across any of the disreputable shelling service because there is where such discussion is appropriately handled.
Meanwhile shells are bugs that are never welcomed in the bitcointalk. So you have my Vote (NO).

I recommend researching the collectibles board. There are auctions every day.

Not witnessing a clear answer/vote to that. I count, 2: Clear no votes & 3: Indicated No votes. Totaling 5 votes in opposition to shill bidding.

I think Howard is looking to get Shill bidding addressed, I see many comments kinda going off topic in regards to that. (Somewhat understandably due to possible placement issues but at the same time can’t we address a simple question?/Keep sidetrack comments in PM’s?)

It’s a certainty that shill bidding does occur. Currently there is no protection against it and it is hard to expose even if you have firsthand accounts/experiences. Patterns are suggestive and add up but they are speculative and not considered hard evidence. It’s a matter that hasn’t been fully addressed and is not easily proven but is clearly given the opportunity to flourish here without guidelines to prevent it.

The Collectables community hosts auctions as Howard has stated on a daily basis. Shill bidding can occur in different forms/ways.

This is why I recommended for users to apply negative trust to violators. Because it is highly unlikely that moderators will update the rules anytime soon, so the trust system is the only real way to enforce this.

What is this bump for? I think you already got your answer: mods do not moderate shill bidding; users can fight the scammers themselves.

If someone is obviously shill bidding, people can tag him and others will ignore his auctions since it's no good to deal with a scammer.

Report Shill Bidding On The Forum

We have understood and recognized the forum rules here for years regarding the situation of fake offers, fraud and so on.

Guidelines for you:

Q: Why haven't you banned <insert scammer username here> who is an obvious scammer?
A: Possible (or real, not for me to decide) scams are not moderated to prevent moderator abuse. If we start picking out which ones we call "scammers" and ban, we would make a lot of decisions based on biased opinions.

Conclusion, if you find out someone is making fake offers, take them to Reputation here, include valid evidence, for your accusations and doubts, don't bring innocent people here.

Those who are guilty/of committing fraud will be executed.
