What makes NEM different or special over NXT?
I see NXT has proven to be continuous development progress throughout last year. They are far far better than other CryptoCurrency Developments. Much advanced.

It doesn't mean I'm saying NEM is nothing or offending NEM. I want know how big and faster NEM is in compare to NXT.

If I honestly say right now I have more confidence in NXT than any other CryptoCurrency. I'm new to NEM. Getting to know it bit by bit. Trying to understand where exactly NEM fits and shines.

Here's the story of how and why NEM came to be:

Basically, NXT had less-than-ideal distribution. An anonymous dev launched an IPO that despite being open for 2 months, only raised 21 BTC and 73 people got all of the NXT - and of these, most of the NXT went to only about 20 people. After a while, more people found out about NXT and its innovative features and the price skyrocketed - turning these very lucky people into instant millionaires. In response to the poor distribution, a number of NXT clones were created with each clone aiming to have a wider and "fairer" distribution than that of NXT. Examples include NAS, NXTL, NEX, NXT2, NFD, NHZ, and of course, NEM.

With the exception of NXTL* and NEM, their creators did just that. The clones launched, grew a small following, and then they flopped.

NEM was given away for free on Bitcointalk and then later for a small fee. During its development, there was also a minor scandal which resulted in the founder leaving the project.

Early on, NEM was originally planned to be a NXT clone but later, the decision was changed so that NEM would have a completely new codebase. So the devs got to work, and coded the coin completely from scratch although obviously it was still very much inspired by NXT. While they were doing this, a number of new features were added to the mix - the most significant of these being the novel proof-of-importance algorithm which discourages hoarding and encourages use of the currency (unlike traditional proof-of-stake which encourages hoarding).

I'm sure there are other new features that NEM has but I'm not a dev and the PoI seems to be the main difference between the two coins.

*NXTL followed a similar path to NEM, opting to build their coin from scratch as well. It was later renamed NODE.

Thanks Lorenzo,

I was looking for NEM history on google, but couldn't find. Thanks for some history insight on NEM.

Few more questions.

* I see in IPO or NEM investment Come-From-Boyond is marked red, and mentioned he took step back from his investment in NEM. I joined NXT just last month, but he seems to be pretty reputed person in NXT community. Do you know any reason why he has left NEM behind?

* jl777 is working on SuperNET which is going to be more powerful Decentralised Exchange. And of course more quicker and faster than NXT Asset Exchange with the use of InstantDEX, MMNXT, RAMCHain and such (Still trying to understand SuperNet technology. Seems pretty cool so far I have studied). His project over NXT platform is pretty solid as per my personal experience. Sure, not much people are using it right now, but as the service gets faster with InstantDEX, I'm sure there'll be plenty coming over to it since the recent heists happened over 3 centralised exchanges, and who can forgot the whole history of centralised exchange.

 - What sort of Asset Exchange NEM has? or is working on?
 - What's the development status/stage of NEM's Exchange?
 - What features NEM's exchange has over NXT Asset Exchange?
 - Is there anything better NEM has in plan to deliver on it's launch or after launch to compete or overpass SuperNET which is based on NXT?
 - If NEM is not having something similar on their official plan or roadmap to compete such SuperNET, is there any other developer out of NEM team working on such project if NEM team is aware of?
 - If not, what NEM has in plan to compete agains SuperNET?

* I see NXT has some exciting project underway, though they also are very well delayed (no surprise, but still) such as Lyth (Game), DeBuNe, Nxtty etc.
 - What projects NEM has currently or in plan?
 - Where can I see those projects? I couldn't find Assets or Projects section on NEM forum.
 - Who are the lead innovators/developers in NEM development communities. I'd like to follow them on Forums or social media if possible, and see how well they are progressing on NEM development. That helps learning NEM development and boosts confidence on NEM technology.

* PoI is cool concept. I'm currently trying it in NEM testnet. All I know (from wikipedia) is PoI is based on how much transactions you do in network and on that basis any account's Importance increases. Is there more detail available on PoI?
 - Not sure if possible, but still. If NXT plans to implement the same or similar functionality as Proof of Importance, do you think it will affect NEM?

* I have no idea about NEM developers, as I just joined NEM recently. What I learned on NXT forums, jl777, CfB and few others are very knowledgeable developers. Seems hard to compete. Who do you think is most equivalent to jl777 and CfB in NEM community?

I'm not offending or complaining NEM. I did mistake with PayCoin as I entered in CryptoCurrency just this December. Pretty new, and learning a lot every day.
Just want to make sure NEM isn't my Next mistake. Tongue

Cheers,
Satinder.

The best thing about NEM is Patmast3r. He's a real people person  Cheesy Always brightens my day.

Thanks for the post links @makoto1337

Will read it.

Read a lot since December, and still have a lot to read. I slept less in last few months since I learned about Bitcoin and it's related Block Chain technologies. Loving it all. Exciting and engaging as every single day something new happens in this industry.  Cheesy

Let's see what NEM brings to the table. Hoping for the best since it's already an Year late, and Asset Exchange isn't clear that it's started being developed or not.
It is not 1 year late, it is just well developed and tested since over a year. Which is quiet appropriate for a technology like that in my opinion.

A good crypto platform (currency is one of the features) is not developed in a few months. I wish people would get that, because then a lot of scam coins wouldn't be able to scam so many people.

@thecoinwizard,

whether the logo is worked on now or not has absolutely ZERO effect on launch of nem or launch of mobile app. two/three completely separate groups of people are working on these things with zero overlap. so the logo can in no way shape or form, affect when the other two will be released.

launch should be soon.. logo has no effect on launch at all.. if you dont want to change the logo, just vote for current..
Thanks for explaining kodtycoon,
I think I will skip the vote for once, as history shows that it is unlikely to be final, and on top of that I don't care much anymore...
Soon is such a relative term, does that mean within this millennia, century, decade, year, month, week, day, hour or in a few minutes?

What makes NEM different or special over NXT?
I see NXT has proven to be continuous development progress throughout last year. They are far far better than other CryptoCurrency Developments. Much advanced.

It doesn't mean I'm saying NEM is nothing or offending NEM. I want know how big and faster NEM is in compare to NXT.

If I honestly say right now I have more confidence in NXT than any other CryptoCurrency. I'm new to NEM. Getting to know it bit by bit. Trying to understand where exactly NEM fits and shines.

Hi and welcome :-)

I would like to speak to a few points that others haven't.

There are many unique features that are new to NEM, such as:

- first use of Proof-of-Importance (PoI) as a consensus algorithm.  PoS is only what you have.  PoW is just what you do and how much electricity you burn.  But PoI is based on what you have and what you do, except it is not about pointless wastefulness, it is about people that actually use NEM.  In PoS people hoard.  That isn't actually good for a currency.  Currencies need to be live and spent.   In NEM if you are spending and people are spending to you, and all these are the right people (no gaming the system) then you actually help your PoI and thus help yourself.  So in NEM, you win not by hoarding the XEM, but by letting the XEM flow.  This is important with a currency.  In a way, the way you spend and the way people spends with you build your reputation.  PoI can be considered the first ever blockchain based reputation system.

- first use of eigentrust++ in a cryptocurrency for securing the P2P network  (This allows each node to know if the node next to it is being honest and if not, then not listen to it)

- NEM has an amazing system where the NEM devs have successfully divided the network from the wallets.  This allows remote harvesting that others have mentioned, but it does other things too.

Let me explain it to you like this.  Have you ever tried to use NXT?  It requires downloading the whole blockchain and that can take a day!  Sometimes it updates and it takes longer or crashes or corrupts.  NEM completely solves that problem.  Say you are at work and you need to make a transaction right now (maybe the price is moving or you need to buy something), with NXT that is impossible.  With NEM a computer that has the latest version of Java installed can then download them NEM file, install NEM, make a new wallet, import your private key, and send the money out all in under two minutes.  Yes, I have tested that and have done it, and this is all on a computer that hasn't ever seen a crypto before.

And then, after all that is done, you can be a nice guy and let your whole blockchain sync and then support the network and let somebody else that was in your position be able to install NEM and be making transactions in under 2 minutes.  With NEM you have an opportunity to pay it forward.  And all this is completely safe.  The devs have made sure of that.

- first use of transaction spam protection in a blockchain crypto  (Ripple has transaction spam protection, but NEM has a new technique.  In Ripple spam protection raises the fee price for all people sending on the network.  After the spam stops, the fees for all people go back down.  In NEM the spammers transactions get put in a que and if there really is that much spam, they would eventually time out.  The spammers in NEM can push their transactions through, but they will have to pay more and more fees.  There is also a high fee for people sending low XEM transactions.)

- first crypto with multisig on launch  (NEM’s multisig is way better than Bitcoins.  Think of Bitcoin’s multisig as 1.0 and NEM’s as 2.0 multisig.  At least the way I understand it to be that is because in Bitcoin’s multisig have to coordinate and sign outside of the blockchain, but NEM allows users to sign on their own leisure in their own time because NEM allows people to sign from within the blockchain.  This is the first time that a crypto has had blockchain based signing and it makes multisig a lot more user friendly and less technical.

- first crypto with an egalitarian distribution to over 1500 individuals

- test-driven development with over 3000 unit tests in the core alone  (As far as we know the is a first in the world of crypto.  This is a very difficult way to write software and will help NEM to be very flexible in the future with a very solid foundational NIS.  It really can't be said just how important this is.  This kind of development is really difficult to do and is basically the type of development that you might find at a multi-million dollar software company, not a volunteer created crypto.)

- 60s block time with low variability due to a 60 block weighted, moving average (BloodyRookie worked on this for a long time.  It is important to have fairly regular and dependable blocktimes in a strong network)

- progressive transaction fees  (most cryptos have a static fee so this is very rarely implemented in a crypto, and again people trying to spam dust will pay much higher fees then a person trying to send one dollar.)

More…… NEM is the first ever platform to my knowledge that has P2P time stamping.  This was developed just for NEM and is a technology that has long been needed in the P2P world, not just crypto currency.

In summary….. NEM devs are many, they are talented, and they don’t mess around.

seriously... i am ok with the first 3 proposals, no question. no offense but the last 7 have to be a joke. angle and phoenix? i remember someone here said, NEM deserves the best. i didnt know that this means a logo created in paint with some esoteric backround. as i said, no offense, but thats embarrassing.

I can live with these, seeing as they honor the previous logo vote and don't deviate too much from the original logo.

This one is also good, but the fact that it's so radically different puts me off - because for me, it disregards the legitimacy of the last vote. Now if they changed that red triangle to the more traditional NEM logo with the NEM colours, that i could certainly live with

Like this:

(You could alternatively remove the orange triangle entirely.)

And yes, a massive no from me for any bird logo. That is territory already taken and with plenty of political/negative connotations associated with it.
